Strawberries and Panic || Tadhg

Cy was off doing what the son of Persephone did best, it was tending to plants, he often do his best to help out wherever he could and the Strawberry fields where an easy task for him. "Fragaria ananassa... They enjoy the sunlight.. Lots of water..." He said lightly as he pruned away a few of the dead leaves from the plants he tended, it was quite... Though, a bit too quite.. Cy could have easily said it felt he was being watched but he assumed it was just his imagination. "It must be... No one really comes out here... Unless it's one of Dionysus or Demeter's kids.." He gulped trying to keep his composer.

Perhaps a huge field of very flammable plants wasn't the smartest place for a fire-obsessed kid to be, but for once flames weren't on the young boys mind. He was too busy watching flower boy to bother with his usual mischief. Okay, so flower boy probably wasn't really his name, but it wasn't like Tadhg was going to just walk up and ask what it was. Besides, the boy was always tending to flowers and reminded Tadhg of a flower himself.

Flower boy noticing him watching wasn't at all a part of the plan though. Maybe it was a bit creepy that he was just watching him through the plants, but that hadn't at all occurred to the Eris kid. The child of Persephone seemed to know he was being watched, though. And, so like an sane person, Tadhg decided it was best to abort whilst panicking.

He squeaked, attempting to turn around and run, but only managing to get a few steps before falling flat on his face. He let out a muffled "Ow," and prepared to succumb to his embarassing fate, staying face down in the dirt. Probably not the most graceful first impression to one's crush.

Cy turned to the loud thud, looking to stop a boy face planted in the dirt, he approached with caution as though the boy was a wounded animal. "Um... A-Are.. Are you alright?" He asked as he knelt down to give other his palm, he was a bit hesitant as he started to turn a faint red, the boys appearance it had matched the one of the infamous pyro he had been warned about, he gulped. "Um... Your Tadhg... R-Right?" He asked a bit nervously, sure... He was told to stay way and avoid the other... But, the more he thought on it, the more the other intrigued him and as they say opposites attract... But this was the most extreme of cases. "I.. I'm Cyrus... It's nice to meetcha..." He said lightly, trying to ease the other into trusting him.

He internally groaned in embarrassment as he took the boys hand and was pulled to his feet. He quickly yanked his hand away, blushing. Oh god, he knew his name. He squeaked, looking down at the ground and biting his bottom lip. "Uh... Yeah..." He mumbled, glancing back up at the flower boy.

"Oh, hi Cyrus," he squeaked, obviously nervous. "I was just, uh... Looking at the strawberries? And then... I tripped... over strawberries. Yeah..." The excuse was weak and honestly a bit of a mess. It wasn't exactly an option to tell Cyrus that he had basically been stalking him. The poor Eris boy had a bit of what one may call a school-girl crush.

Cy smiled a bit dusting himself off. "Watching the strawberries?" He asked with a soft reply. "They are an interesting plant... Aren't they?" Cy could have rambled on for away of all the useful gardening facts, but he soon paused. "Ahhh... Sorry... I wouldn't want to talk your ear off or anything.... Um... I just wouldn't see you as the type to hang around here is all..." Cy said looking to his heels, one digging into the dirt as he talked. "Um... Yeah..." Cy gulped, he felt his heart pound a little quicker, he didn't know why he was still rambling. But he couldn't help himself.

"No! No, don't worry 'bout it at all! I honestly wouldn't mind if ya talked me ear off 'cause I like listenin' to you speak lots," he said quickly, words hard to understand as his accent thickened due to how fast her was speaking. His face turned even more red at the realization of his own words. "N-not in like a weird way or anything..." He internally face-palmed. Way to go, Tadhg. First falling on your face now this... he scolded himself mentally.

"I just came here to..." He came to a complete stop, mind shooting blanks. He hadn't actually planned this far into their interaction. He stared at the other boy, wide-eyed like a deer caught in headlights. "I'm really bad at talking to people, sorry..." he mumbled, just about ready to dig a hole and stay in it forever.

Cy blinked to the boys strange actions. "Um... bad at talking? Well, you seem to be talking to me just fine.." Cy tilted his head, noting the others movements. "I mean, if ya want... I could teach ya about the flowers some, what do you say?" He said with a gentle smile, offering to the other. "It's okay if you say no.. It wouldn't hurt my feelings or anything, you just seem like you need to um.. Let out some steam? Or um... I don't really know to be honest.. I just kinda have a thing with senses.. Maybe it's because of my mother, I dunno..."

"Flowers! Yes!" he cut in excitedly, brightening up instantly at the boy's suggestion. He didn't know much about flowers other than they were fragile and beautiful, much like Cyrus. He had never been particularly interested in flowers, appreciating them from afar but not wanting to damage them. He had the same fear in the back of his mind over flower boy. He had planned on only just watching him, but clearly that hadn't worked out.

"Your mom is Persephone, right?" he asked. He already knew who Cy's mom was, but it was probably best to not tell him that. He had learned quite a bit from just wandering around camp like a shadow. He liked learning about others. It was a good distraction. "Mine is Eris. I don't have any cool powers, really."

Cy smiled lightly to the others enthusiasm. "Uh... Yeah.. That's my mother... Goddess of Season.... Queen of the Underworld"  He murmured the last part lightly. It was an odd thing to think of, his mother ruled over the underworld during the season of winter which fact gave Cy is terrifying underworld-like powers. "So! Uh... Where would ya like to began? And I wouldn't say that.... Everyone has some sort of knack... They just need to find them, even if it isn't associated with their lineage... Maybe flowers can be something that you can also have a knack with?" Cy smiled lightly. "Um... It isn't even really that Persephone is my mother, it was my father who showed me to care for the nature and botany.." He said lightly, his flickering eyes glancing back at discord's child.

It hadn't really occurred to Tadhg that Persephone not only reigned over all things spring, but the Underworld as well. That could only mean that Cyrus currently had control over the the shadows... The boy shivered slightly. All of that wasn't particularly a friend of his. He'd never admit it, but it scared him slightly. The dark in general was scary enough. There was too much uncertainty, too much that could be lurking just beyond his field of vision.

"I don't know much about flowers to be honest..." he mumbled a bit bashfully. He could've lied and acted like some sort of genius, but that wouldn't get him anywhere if they actually had to talk about it. Besides, Cy was cute when he talked botany. All happy and focused and kinda dorky... Tadhg blushed, biting his lip. "Maybe you could show me?" he asked hopefully.

He knew the 'Queen of the Underworld' line might throw people off, but it's a line that he felt need to be said.. He wouldn't wanna be just considered a Demeter clone. It did have some perks.. He could hold his own if he wanted to but a part of him hated violence so.. He wouldn't dare unless it was truly the last resort he had. "Um.. So! Uh........." Cy paused his face illuminated red as he tried to figure out where to start. "So! I can show ya how to grow flowers? Or... Fruits and vegetables more your things?" He asked, trying to brush off his blush as quickly as possible.

You're more my thing. "Flowers please," he squeaked, taking no notice of the other boy's awkwardness as he was too worried about his own. If there was one word to describe Tadhg, awkward would definitely be it. He had never really had a proper friendship back in Ireland and it had only worsened when he came to America. Socialization was always a struggle for him.

"I mean, don't fruits 'n stuff have flowers too?" he asked, head tilted slightly. "Cause apple trees have flowers before the apples come," He hoped he was right about this. He didn't want to further humiliate himself. The gestation of fruits was something one would usually learn in school, but Tadhg had been too busy being tormented to pay much attention

"Yes, a all fruits and a great majority of vegetables start out a flowers... Its one of the, well...  In botany, a fruit is the seed-bearing structure in angiosperms formed from the ovary after flowering. Fruits are the means by which these plants disseminate seeds... They where made to be eaten so they could spread seeds and to keep its species alive to survive..." Cy really couldn't tell about Tadhg's awkwardness. It seemed fine to him. "Um... So, yeah... Flowers would be a nice start." Cy smiled. "We could start with strawberries, as we always have an abundance of them."

Tadhg had no idea what the boy was talking about but it sounded smart. He was trying really hard to keep up and certainly wasn't unintelligent, but he didn't know what a lot of the words meant but nodded along, not wanting to seem dumb.

"We're practically swimming in strawberries," he agreed, scanning the field they were in. The strawberries seemed infinite... He wondered how the camp managed to grow so many. No doubt Demeter's magic played a part. He had also heard that the satyrs could promote plant growth with the pretty music he'd heard coming from the forest.

He glanced back at Cyrus' face, eyes quickly flitting back to the ground. "Do you have time now?" he asked hopefully, hoping he didn't sound desperate. He didn't want to annoy the boy. For all he knew he was already being annoying...

Cy looked to the sea of Strawberries, and smiled. "I do indeed have time." Cy said, still gazing out. "It's amazing huh? How all of us can tend to all these lovely plants. I mean, it isn't just my kinship, the Demeter's and Dionysus' cabins... But the camp as a whole... It's quite um... Well, nice..." He soon glanced to Tadhg. "Ah! Anyways.. Back to the topic of the fruit at hand...  Strawberries for a normal person without Godly powers... They are a simple fruit, they just need good weeding and watering as they have rather shallow root systems." Cy said, took to the flowers. "For the first year, you'd wanna cut off the blossoms to discourage them from fruiting.  Then they use the fruiting nutrients on developing healthy roots. The yields will be much greater in the second year anyway."
