Breaking molds. It was true they were born into the role of a demigod but in Cam's experience there was no hero mold. He had met more than enough demigods whose lives had taken them down a different path than the legion and while they may not have been hardened warriors they all learned how to be heroes in their on way. It led him to the belief that there were many ways to be a hero and many of them did not come from how many monsters you slew. Maybe that's what Vega was trying to say all along but whatever the case he never got a chance to ask.
Vega apparently got distracted by her mother and that was enough to break the serious direction of the conversation. Not that Can minded. He wasn't some philosopher and despite enjoying talking with Vega it wasn't really a conversation he wanted to keep pushing. Instead he chuckled and picked it up where she took it. "What? Were you expecting me to be some over muscled dumb jock?" He smiled at her. "I play quarterback and we still require a few of our brain cells. Few being the key word."
He liked Vega and despite what she might think about the soldiering life and possibly what she thought about football players she was easy to talk to. In fact, he had been enjoying the conversation so much that it wasn't until she said something about the coffee that he realized he hadn't even touched his. He smiled a little sheepishly and took a sip from his cup which was fortunately still warm. "I better finish what I've got but," He chuckled as she reached over the counter. "I might have to come back a little later today for a refill."

Vega gave him a laugh from the counter of the small cafe, pouring herself another small cup and making her way back to him. "Over muscled dumb jock? What is this high school musical?" she said laughing a bit before shaking her head. "I'm sure you have at least a few brain cells. As long as they haven't been tackled out of your head. It just seems so mundane for a Centurion of New Rome." She said the second part slightly hushed to make sure not to stir a riot with her mother, who was doing her usual of trying to tidy up before she left for Camp. "Though quarterback is impressive. Thats the one that calls the plays right?" She asked with a bit of a laugh. Okay, she had never even seen a game of football being played, but she knew what it was at least! That counts.
"Well feel free. All you have to say is your from camp and my mom will usually supply as much as you can hold as long as you are willing to listen to her war stories. All her rambles of secret wars and missions she can't tell anyone." She rolled her eyes and her mothers dramatics. Always saying there was more than Rome to protect and yada yada. Sometimes she swore her mother was loosing all her marbles but she was still her mother. "Or if I'm not at drills I am usually here, so stop in whenever." Okay it was more of a invitation than conversation but Cam was pretty cool for a solider boy. He could hold a conversation and unlike her Cohort knew what it was like to be born here. She looked over at the clock hanging on the wall and sighed, those started soon speaking of it.

"You probably don't want to hear me sing." He chuckled out at her high school musical comment. "But thanks for thinking of me so highly." He caught the hushed tone and decided it was probably best to let the mundane comment go. It wasn't all about the glory and honor. He didn't have to have some spectacular life up on a Roman pedestal. Was that mundane? Maybe but she didn't know everything about him yet.
He was kind of impressed that she knew about his position though. Most girls didn't take an interest in that sort of thing but something told him that Vega wasn't one of those girls. "I think you've got the idea." He said as his grin grew a little wider and he took a sip of his coffee which was still quite good despite him forgetting about it for a bit. "I'll take you to a game sometime if you want. Maybe then you can see we're not all meat heads." The Legion didn't have to be your life even if you were serving in it. Describing it was kind of hard but perhaps seeing that not everything had to be about Rome would help. Besides, she might like that.
“And here I thought we were trying to avoid your mother’s stories.” He said conspiratorially. He wasn't looking for any handouts coming here and he certainly wasn't looking for war stories but if he hadn't learned it already he could see that Vega was getting a tired of hearing them. Life here wasn't exactly what she wanted for herself but that didn't mean it had to all be bad. Maybe he could show her that. "Come on. I'll walk you to drill and if you're feeling up to it you can tell me more about how mundane I am." With that he gave her an inviting nod and led the way for the door.

"You never know. You could have a real career in theater if football doesn't work out. Just have to learn those Jazz hands." Vega joked, emphasizing her point with her hands.Come to a game with him? Vega smiled and laughed for a second "That actually sounds like a lot of fun. I'd love to." Okay she was a little giddy at the chance to get to do something nonwork or legion related. Vega has friends, just non that will ever really try to go out of their way to see her. Most stay in the barracks or she meets at parties. "Meatheads aren't that bad." she said with a sly smirk to tease him. In all reality they weren't, then again Vega just liked people in general, meathead status or not.
Vega softly rolled her eyes at his comment about her mother stories. She leaned up on the table and looked back at her mother before looking at Cameron again. "Yeah well, had to avoid when they were your night time stories when you were a kid. You have what it takes to probably still be living at the end of one of those stories. Most of the time people end up cutting her off or falling asleep." Sometimes she said that to save her own embarrassment, some times it was to save her mothers. She would get so passionate and loud that she often didn't know what she was saying and would go off on tangents, making the listener just want to leave. She meant well but most of the times whenever she started a story she wouldn't finish and would just be disappointed.
When he offered to walk her to drills she raised a eyebrow at him. "Is this some ploy to make sure I actually go to Drills?" she said with a smirk, teasing the higher ranking officer. She guessed she could deal with drills today, for Cams sake. She took a sip of her coffee and nodded, "Alright, give me some second." She said before hoping her way gracefully over the counter to the back room. Thats a lie. She almost fell. Twice.
Regaining her little bit of pride she had she grabbed her bag with her clothes and mace in it and decided to walk around the counter this time, giving her mom a kiss on the cheek as she walked by, making her way back to Cameron. "Alright, lets here about your mundane side." She said smiling and gave her mom a little wave as she left.
