[Lydia Shepard]

“Getting dirty in the forges is different than on the dance floor,” Lydia pointed out before she smirked as she saw Genie’s little wave. She chuckled as she shook her head. She didn't know what it was, but Genie was definitely different than most of the girls she would see around camp and she liked that. A lot.

But she watched her as Genie seemed to repair the ipod with ease. She probably picked the easiest one to repair, since she knew the state of some of them and it was probably easier to use them for scrap metal than trying to repair it. But soon enough, the ipod she was tinkering with was in working order and Genie had it hooked up to a sound system.

Lydia smiled when she was asked to do the honors as she hopped off the hammock and over to Genie. Her fingers brushed over hers to take the ipod from her. Her face heated up slightly as she took the ipod and scrolled through it. Her eyes widened after a moment before she hit the play button. “Are you a psychic as well?” she teased as her favorite play list came through the speakers.

Genie's breath caught in her throat when Lydia's fingers brushed lightly over her own and she suddenly found herself wishing that she had cleaned up a little bit. Lydia was beautiful and Genie, well Genie was a mechanic with dirt under her nails. They weren't exactly the most likely pair but then again she had caught Lydia blushing and maybe that was something. Either way she held that caught breath hoping that maybe she had done a really good thing in picking the ipod she had.

When Lydia's eyes widened Genie could hardly dare to hope but sure enough the girl was smiling and happily flipping through the playlist of stored music and at that the Hephaestus girl felt a little of her confidence returning. "Oh it wasn't nothing like that. I just got lucky I guess." She smiles and chuckled. "I really found your favorite one? That's pretty awesome. What have you got on there anyways? I'd like to hear what the wonderful strawberry detective likes to listen to."

Lydia was swaying to the music as she mouthed the words to the song. This was a playlist she had curated herself and she thought it was one of the best ones that the cabin had ever made. She looked up at Genie and smiled as she nodded her head as she asked if she really had picked out the right one. "You really did pick out the right one. So I'm guessing you're more than a little bit lucky, considering how many ipods I brought over." But she really couldn't believe that Genie fixed her favorite one right off the bat. Maybe she would have to thank her later somehow. Maybe with strawberries, chocolate, and sugar?

"It's a lot of good pop music," Lydia said with a slight blush as Genie asked for a sampling. Was she going to be known as the strawberry detective? That wouldn't be so bad. She looked down at the ipod and pressed the skip button. The next song came on and she let it play for a few seconds before she skipped to the next one. "It's the good music on the radio," she explained as she looked up at Genie. "But not the ones with the raunchy lyrics."

Genie listened to the music coming from the iPod with interest. She had of course heard most of the songs before as she often listened to the radio while she worked. Out of all the styles of music they played in the forge while they worked Genie generally preferred happy, upbeat pop music to a lot of the other things that came on. Most of the time she would smile and sing along when she found a song that she knew and she kind of did so now humming along to the tune of each as Lydia flipped through them.

"Oh!" She exclaimed as Lydia flipped to one particularly good song. "I reaaaally like that one. Leave it there." The excitement at having found a song that she and Lydia had in common showed plainly on Genie's face but she also suddenly had an idea too. She didn't know if it would work but hopefully Lydia would be okay with it. "Come on let's dance. We don't need some fancy party. We've got good music and good company and I want to have some fun."

Without waiting for an answer Genie took Lydia's hand and led her out into an open area. The music was good and the perfect speed for them to just have fun. Admittedly the Hephaestus girl didn't really know what she was doing but Lydia had said the lewd stuff wasn't her style. Maybe she wouldn't mind the goofy, awkward moves of a white girl with no rhythm who just wanted to have a few laughs and a good time.

Lydia kept going through the playlist as she gave Genie a decent sampling before she was told to stop on a certain song. Lydia looked down at the ipod and a slight smile crept onto her lips. It was one of Lydia’s favorites and Genie also liked it. She couldn't help but feel there was some sort of connection that bonded them further.

But Genie suggested that they go and dance and Lydia couldn't turn her down. She barely managed to set down the ipod before the Hephaestus girl had her hands and leading her to an empty part of the forge. Lydia giggled a bit before she reluctantly let go of Genie’s hands and started dancing in a way that a white girl could be proud of.

The music was good but having a dance partner was better. Genie didn't know if this was going to be a good idea or not but she wanted to do something with Lydia besides just show her the forge. She wanted to make it a little more like a real date that they both could enjoy and as Lydia seemed to jump right in with her she thought that she had made the right choice. This was fun and dates were supposed to be fun and if she got to dance with a cute girl that she liked who cared if they had no rhythm between them?

"Looks like we've got something in common. I really like this playlist too." Genie grinned at the other girl and didn't fail to notice just how cute Lydia looked dancing there and having a good time. She really was gorgeous and probably way out of Genie's league but Lydia didn't seem to put any value in any of that stuff. At least Genie hoped she didn't. "Maybe your siblings should let you pick the music more often and let me pick the ipods to repair."

Lydia was just dancing around and having a good time. She had her hands in the air like she just did't care as she rocked her hips from side to side. Yes, she didn't have the moves or the rhythm that other campers had around camp, but she still liked to have fun and it looked like that Genie was having fun as well. And that was the most important fact in Lydia's book.

She laughed a bit as Genie said her siblings needed to pick the music more often. "I helped build this playlist," she said over the music as she kept dancing. "I think I should be in charge of that instead of them." She threw Genie another wink. "But I'm okay with you picking the ipods as long as you pick the good ones like this one."

"Definitely." Genie said as she caught Lydia's wink. "That'd be a party I would like to come to." Granted she would have liked to attend any party that Lydia was a part of but if it had music like this she might not even mind getting out on the dance floor. Maybe the Dionysus girl would invite her to one of those parties now or maybe they would keep meeting up like this. Genie didn’t really care at this point so long as she got to spend time with the girl.

Genie reached out to take Lydia’s hand and dance with her a little. It wasn’t anything too fancy, certainly nothing of the bump and grind nature, but it seemed like the right thing to do. Plus standing there and swinging their arms around like goofs was the most fun she had in a while not to mention that Lydia looked really cute in her dress. She was about to say as much but the song changed and instead of something fun and poppy a slower more intimate song came on. Genie smiled and slowed not really sure if they should continue or not. It was still a good song but probably something that couples would dance to if they were in a group. Instead of that Genie just slowly rocked from side to side. “That was fun. Bet everyone is chasing after you as their dance partner when the parties come around.”

Genie grabbed Lydia's hand to start dancing with her. Lydia couldn't help but get the shivers down her back as her face heated up even more. She was holding Genie's hand and she liked it. Even though she used them to work on her gadgets, she still managed to keep them so soft. But Lydia didn't keep her mind on her hands for too long because she kept dancing to the music. And it was a good song they had picked, so it was a shame for it to end and be replaced with a slower one.

Lydia had no clue what to do. Part of her wanted to pull Genie in close to her as they danced, but another part knew that was a little too bold of a move and didn't know if Genie would welcome the advances or not. So she took Genie's lead and just swayed to the music as she kept hold on the Hephaestus girl's hand. She laughed and shook her head at Genie's comment. "Surprisingly, no," she said with a bit of a smirk and a shrug. "I don't really do parties and the parties I do go to don't do my style of dancing."

Genie wasn't really sure what to think about all that. The dancing they were doing now seemed perfectly fine to her and Lydia's music selections were great. We're the Dionysus parties really so wild and crazy? She guessed she would just have to take Lydia's words for it and hope for more of these private parties instead. Luckily she thought she could be more than satisfied with that. Now if she could only get up the nerve to really slow dance with her or something nice like that.

"Well I'd want you for a dance partner for sure. Ya know, if you didn't have anyone in mind already that is." She smiled hoping that maybe Lydia didn't have anyone in mind. It would make things easier if Lydia didn't have her eye on anyone yet. She liked Lydia but would have felt bad trying to move in if there was someone else in the picture and it was better to find out now if there was any chance at all or not. "This is definitely nicer though. Just two people and good music. Kind of a strange place for a dance party though I guess."

Lydia raised her eyebrows as Genie asked if there was somebody else she wanted to dance with. She laughed as she shook her head. "Nah, there's really nobody in particular," she said as she decided it was better to not admit that she wanted Genie as her dance partner. She was fun to be around with and she had lots of fun dancing just a song ago. "So I think I'd be alright with you being my dance partner. At least I'd get a cute one." She winked at her, which was a bit of a bold move, but she figured why not take a little bit of a risk.

Once Genie mentioned that this was a strange place for a dance party, Lydia looked around. Sure, they were in a forge and it was hot in more ways than one, and there were tools and gadgets laying about, but nothing really phased her. She turned back to Genie and shrugged. "There's weirder places for a dance party for two. I think this is one of the tamer ones."

Genie's breath caught a little as Lydia said that she thought she'd make a cute dance partner. She didn't know about all that but she was glad Lydia seemed to think of her in that way that and more importantly she didn't have her eyes on anyone else. Did that mean that it was okay for her to make the next move? There was only one real way to find out and Genie guessed it was time for a gut check. If Lydia was brave enough to admit that then Genie had to be brave and take a chance too even though she didn't know where it would lead.

"Yeah I guess you're right about there being weirder places. Still, next time you get to pick the location." Genie took a moment to prepare herself for what she was about to do. This was it and she hoped Lydia would understand but she just had to know and yeah she could do this. "Hey uh Lydia." Genie said never letting her warm, hopeful smile die away. "I uh kind of like you I think. I mean I have fun talking to you and stuff and you're funny and cute and pretty nice too. I mean I guess what I'm really trying to say is would you like to go out with me? Like really go out with me? Gosh I really hope I'm not messing this up. I'm not am I?"

Lydia was quickly making a mental list of all the weird places she could have a dance party with Genie and the forge was at the bottom of the list. Besides, it was one of the few places where she could get alone time with her cute dance partner so they could dance. But next time she'd get to pick the location? There were a few places better around camp, but they had to go when there were few people there, which probably meant late at night or early in the morning, but that would've been worth it to Lydia.

But she noticed something was off with Genie. She stopped swaying to the music as she looked at her and raised her eyebrows in concern. But what came next from Genie wasn't concerning at all. She smiled a bit as a slight giggle escaped her lips. "You're asking me out?" she said before she nodded her head and giggled some more. "I like you back and I would love to go out with you." She shook her head as her smile grew a little bit wider. "You didn't mess it up. I think it's perfect."

What was she doing? Was she crazy? There was no way, no way, that this would work and yet, somehow Lydia's face lit up and she began to giggle. Genie supposed Lydia could have been laughing at her but that's not what it sounded like. Instead, it sounded like happy giggles and sure enough they were. Still, Genie could hardly believe it. "Really? You like me too?" She asked excitedly.she had been holding her feelings in and now they threatened to come rushing out so to contain her excitement she did the only thing she could think to do at the moment and wrapped Lydia up in a big hug.

"Oh Lydia that's great. I wanted to tell you before so bad but I didn't know what you'd say. Now, to know you feel the same way..." She gave the girl a quick squeeze and then stood back from her at arms length still smiling the biggest absolutely brightest smile she could. She didn't know how this moment could have gotten any better. Lydia was an awesome girl and now she knew that Genie liked her. All she had to do now was make sure she didn't mess things up somehow. "Thanks Lydia. You really are the best. I guess good things happen in forges huh?"

"Really," Lydia giggled as she nodded her head again. "I do like you Genie, even if you're a strawberry thief." Out of all the things that Lydia was expecting out of tonight, she wasn't expecting a date. But she was definitely not complaining at all. If anything, she would call this a pretty successful night. She got wrapped up into Genie's arms and Lydia giggled some more as she squeezed the girl back. Genie was more than happy about all of this and that made Lydia happy as well.

Once they pulled away from the hug, Lydia's smile matched Genie's but it wasn't as bright as hers was right then. "A lot of good things happen in the forges," Lydia corrected before she winked at her. She giggled for a bit before she head towards the ipod. "Do you want to keep our dance party going?"
