Ash had left the clearing with hardly a look back. The girl, Audrey, was dead and that was about as finally as things could be. That said he did spare a thought for his broken bow which had seen him through so many life threatening situations. Fortunately Dakota was there and she overruled any reservations he might have had about leaving his old weapon behind.
The flight back to camp predictably seemed to take much longer than it really did. He loved Dakota and she loved him back and that realization made a normally easy flight much more difficult than necessary. Still, they eventually did make it back to camp and if he held Dakota a little closer than usual on the ride then that was just his way of making sure that this moment was real.
Once safely in her room Dakota locked them in and instructed Ash to make himself comfortable. True to his word Ash took a seat on the bed and laid back playing the willing patient. He watch Dakota as she made her way around the room collecting the supplies she needed and when she joined him on the bed He offered up his injuries to her without fuss.
It was interesting to watch how she cared for each cut and scrape. She paid so much attention to his injuries cleaning each one, bandaging it and moving on to the next one. Ash found that he didn’t mind the attention and as she worked he spoke up for the first time since they had gotten back from the clearing. “This reminds me of the first time we met. You fixing me up after a pegasus accident. Do you remember it?”

It was easy to forget where they were and what he had been doing just moments before with Dakota there to fill his mind with much happier thoughts. Ash had always been impulsive and it was those natural impulses that took control now as he kissed the girl that he had thought he lost. He would have probably been content to go on kissing her but Dakota kept him grounded as she always did and kept things from getting out of hand. She was good at that.
Ash sighed as she pulled away still not content to be done with kissing her just yet but recognizing the wisdom in her words. He did need to get patched up one way or the other but if it was necessary at least it would be in a place they could have a little privacy. He thought he could live with that arrangement.
Nodding Ash slowly got to his feet and held out his hand to her. “Come on. Rusher is waiting for us nearby. We can fly back to camp and then you can make sure that I'm taken care of to your liking.” There was more to it than that. There was the hint that this was more of a temporary cease fire than a permanent laying down of arms. He thought they still had a lot to talk about tonight and hopefully it wouldn’t be the kind of conversation that needed a lot of words. For now though he wanted to return to camp with his lady and make sure that she really was safe. That this really was all over.

Genie is always a good choice and if Royce shows any interest in boats, engines, or anything mechanical really it will be sure to get her on Genie's good side. If Royce comes nosing around the forge she'll be sure to find Genie hanging about but if you don't see her having a reason to head that direction she might find the Hephaestus girl drooling over some car or mechanic's magazine and that could be a conversation starter.

Ash watched her as she responded. It was happening. What he had been waiting for since that day he had admitted his feelings to her was finally happening and this time Dakota had no second thoughts. She loved him and that was all he needed to hear.
There really wasn’t anything else that needed to be said. The danger was past and the only way that Ash could see this day ending any better was to return to camp with Dakota and to pick up exactly where they had just left off. Or maybe they could hold off on returning. Right now Ash didn’t care. All he wanted was his lips on hers and really there was only one way to express that so he said the first thing that came to his mind and hoped that Dakota got the picture. “Well, if you love me then love me.” He said as that smirk was replaced with a more passionate look. With that he leaned forward going in for another kiss.

The kiss lasted for a while. Ash couldn’t really tell how long but then it didn’t really matter. She had said the three words he had been waiting for so long. A confirmation of the feelings that he had for her and the feelings that had caused so much trouble. It wasn’t surprising really. He had known something was there, felt it, but there was something satisfying in hearing her say it after so long and he didn’t want this moment to end.
It did though the kiss coming to an end with a satisfied sigh from him. He pulled away from her looking far more rejuvenated than any ambrosia could have done. “If I had known you wanted a hero so bad I would have tried saving your life sooner.” The corner of his lip curled in a smirk to show that he was making one of his rare jokes but the danger they were in moments before certainly seemed far away now. Face turning slightly serious again he asked. “You’re sure? No second thoughts?”

He was feeling better now that he had the ambrosia in him. He knew that feeling probably wouldn’t last for long but now that the danger had passed he thought that he was okay with that. Dakota seemed to be doing better too after he had reassured her and that was enough to cause him to relax. he was so relaxed in fact that he barely even caught Dakota’s next words.
It took a moment for the words to sink in but as his tired mind latched on to them and comprehension began to dawn he looked at her with a new understanding. It was such a simple statement and yet he had grown accustomed to not expecting it. There it was though and Ash couldn’t have been happier to hear it. In response he leaned forward his caressing hand moving back to support her neck and brought his face inches from hers. “I’ve been waiting for you to say that a long time.” He whispered and finally pressed his lips to hers.

Ash allowed Dakota to finish her examination of him without comment and took the news that he would probably need stitches as placidly as ever. Stitches were annoying but all things considered they weren't so bad. His wounds would heal and if it meant that Dakota fussed over him a little more for a while then he thought that he could live with that.
She handed him some ambrosia and Ash obediently took a bite. The taste was delicious and the fire that rushed through his body as he ate served to pep him up a bit. He would be alright, she would realize that in a moment and hopefully that would serve to calm her a bit. Until then it sounded like she needed a little reassurance. "Dakota," He said bringing his hand up to caress her cheek. "I'm okay. The worst is over now and I'm sure you'll have me fixed up in no time. It's over Dakota. We're safe."

She was coming to now. She was beginning to understand and with that understanding came the realization he was hurt. Just like he had seen her do a hundred times in the infirmary she switched into doctor mode without a second thought. “The who isn’t important right now. It’s been taken care of. As for these…” He didn’t have to say how bad his injuries were. He knew they were bad and if he knew that then how much worse did they seem to Dakota with all her training. He merely gave a nod that she was right.
“You’ll have to excuse the mess but I submit myself to your capable hands nurse.” He didn’t think he could be stubborn if he had wanted to. The fight had left him drained and he was not so prideful as to fuss at her for being worried when there was obviously something to worry about. He was just happy that Dakota knew a thing or two about battle injuries. “At least I’m fortunate enough to be rescuing the best medic in camp.”

That moment before her eyes opened felt like an eternity. Ever since he had received the note announcing Dakota's capture he had only been able to focus on stopping Audrey. If he hadn't done that then everything would have been lost. Now though the only thing on his mind was Dakota and it wasn't until she spoke that he relaxed. She was alive and that was what mattered.
Relief washed over him as he hugged her body closer. "Thank the gods." He said once he was finally sure she was okay. "Dakota, you were kidnapped. I came to rescue you but I thought..." He hesitated not wanting to say what he was thinking. It had been a close thing. He could have lost her and now that he let himself think about the possibility it was a little hard to take. "I thought the girl who had kidnapped you had killed you just to get to me but it's over now. You're safe."

And just like that it was over. Ash watched as Audrey glanced down at the knife protruding from her chest and held his combat stance until he finally saw the light fade from her eyes. As the girl's body slumped forward onto the ground Ash sank back against a nearby tree trying to catch his breath. As the flow of adrenaline finally began to taper off he suddenly became aware of how tired he was. He was breathing heavily, bleeding from cuts over his body and sore all over but he was alive. He was alive and Audrey wasn't and that was the important thing.
It wasn't the only important thing though. Ash's attention snapped back to Dakota in a sudden moment of clarity and he hurriedly pushed himself away from the tree to check on her. He rushed over to her as quickly as his tired legs could carry him and when he reached her he went to his knees beside her. He didn't have time to worry about her during the battle now though his concern flooded back over him washing his weariness away if only for a moment. "Dakota." He said checking her over for injuries. "Dakota. Gods Dakota wake up." After this if Audrey had done something to her, some final form of revenge...he couldn't think about it. Wouldn't. She had to be alright.

Ash slammed into Audrey knocking her to the ground and forcing her to drop one of her blades. She would have others of course but Ash snatched the dropped weapon up without thinking. He didn't have long, she was coming at him again now but this time he was ready.
She was fast but Ash was faster. He sidestepped taking a slash down his arm but locking the hand holding the dagger there. He twisted the hand back hard until he heard the snap of bone and then shoved the girl to the ground thrusting the stolen blade into Audrey's chest around where her heart would be. He had seen how sharp she kept them before and the blade he held didn't disappoint as it sank deep.

The shot was not a perfect one but even still it was enough to nick the girl as she dodged. Clearly he had caught her off guard but that was not a luxury he expected to get again. She was fast and before he could grab another arrow Audrey was on him with her blades flashing. Fortunately Ash saw her coming and used the only option available to him falling back and using his bow as a makeshift escrima stick to deflect her blows. Even still he was hard pressed to keep up with the fury of her assault.
Ash was on the defensive and at a disadvantage. Even though he was fast close quarters combat was not his specialty. He wasn't able to block all the slashes coming at him and Audrey succeeded in opening more than a few gashes with here blades. Still, what he lacked in skill he made up for in ferocity. There was more at stake here than just his life and he wasn't going to give up yet. Realizing that he had to change the flow of battle and regain some momentum Ash spun his bow around to tangle Audrey's hands sacrificing his weapon in the process. The bow string snapped with an audible twang but he used the moment of relief to launch his shoulder into the girl in a tackle that drove them both to the ground.

Ash wasn't aware that he had been committing such a grievous crime by not trying a s'more but apparently it was a big deal. Fortunately Dakota seemed to be ready and willing to right that wrong. Ash may not have seen what the big deal was yet but he trusted Dakota and was looking forward to having her "fix" him. Whatever that entailed.
Ash watched as Dakota got up and let her help him to his feet as well. "A bonfire hmm? I’ve got to admit that spending the evening with you around a campfire would be a happy ending to our ride." He said as he dusted his jeans off and began gathering the saddle blanket up so that they could be on their way. "I am rather hard headed though. I might need a little extra incentive if you expect all this fixing to stick." He didn't think Dakota would have too much of a problem with that idea but either way he could only see good things ahead. "Come on. Let's get back to camp."

For a moment he wandered if his plan might not have worked then Audrey dropped from the trees across for him. She looked much as he had expected to find her with her clothes lined with a number of those throwing daggers that she favored so much. She apparently thought to impress him with her display but Ash wasn’t buying it. Dakota had been captured, people he know had been killed and this girl was responsible for it. Ash was done. He hadn't come here for games, hadn't come here to talk and if she was expecting him just to roll over without a fight she was about to learn that just how much fight was in him.
How often had she done this? How often had she forced others to dance to her own tune for her own sadistic pleasure? Ash wouldn't have doubted if the answer was quite a few because she was acting like she was used to being in control of the situation. Ash was no hero though and he refused to let this girl pull his strings. Without answering her question, in fact, without even saying a word Ash raised his bow and fired. This ended tonight one way or the other.
