With Dakota out of the saddle and standing very close to him Ash thought that now would be the perfect time to make some new memories. For far too long they had been at odds with each other. This place was something good, something familiar for both of them and it was time to make sure that they put those bad times behind them once and for all here in a place that they both remembered quite fondly.
Ash slipped his arms around her waist and pulled her against him. In his opinion it was the best place for her to be and he planned to enjoy having her this close once again. "Lady," He said in that cool cowboy drawl that he had. "That is something that I think neither of us will object to." With that he wasted no time in leaning in closer and pressing his lips to hers in a hungry kiss that would be sure to leave neither of them wanting.

Ash didn’t respond as Audrey started monologing. He wanted information and she was giving him more in her condescending remarks than he would have gotten if he would have captured her. If a clean slate was really the usurper’s end game then it at least told him one thing. They were probably all as delusional as this girl and there would be no reasoning with them. That being the case there was only one way to end this little rebellion and it started with this girl.
The decision was made but it was a moment too late. Ash saw the girl reach for her hidden blade and she was fast. Fortunately though Ash was fast too and he had the benefit of being prepared. He didn’t think, didn’t even second guess his actions, there was only one thing that was going to stop that blade and the boy’s hunter instincts did the work for him. As the girl threw her blade Ash’s bow dipped, the string gave a sharp twang and his arrow flew.
It was a one in a million shot but Ash was no ordinary archer. His arrow flew true striking the spinning dagger in midair and knocking both off course with a clang of metal. The whole exchange only took an instant but an instant was all the girl needed to dive off to the side. Ash didn’t waste any time either. He needed to move and he did so now drawing another arrow as he dashed for cover before the girl could throw another dagger. “It will take more than that monster to destroy this camp.” He said with a cool certainty as he dove behind a dumpster. “Your plans will fail and your little rebellion will be crushed.”

"Memory is a funny thing." He said as they touched down in the clearing. "In my experience we remember what we want to remember and the good more often than the bad. That said, I'm glad both of us remember our time here fondly." The two of them had plenty of bad memories together as well but just as Ash had said those seemed more distant now. Much like an eraser over a white board the slate had been wiped clean but the good memories still remained.
Ash dismounted and turning back to Dakota he held his hands in that silent offer of assistance once more. She didn't need any help getting out of the saddle but he wanted to help nonetheless. "It would be a shame to waste the opportunity and I think we could all use a break." There was no reason to go back so soon. Blue Sky would enjoy the time out of the stable and Ash wanted to enjoy the time with his lady. It had been far too long since they had been here together and he wasn't going to squander the opportunity now. "Memories are good but they are a far cry from the real thing. Perhaps we can make some new ones."

Flying was fun but snuggling with Dakota had its own very special appeal. Ash would have been lying if he said he didn’t cherish that closeness or that didn’t enjoy those kisses. Dakota still had that same hold on him as she always had even if his expectations had been tempered a little. It was good to see that Dakota enjoyed those things as well and if there were more things to come in the future? Well if it happened it happened. Forcing things didn’t sit well with either of them.
“You don’t seem too opposed to the idea.” He said as he noticed her circling over the forest looking for such a spot, their spot. He smiled a bit to himself and then scanned the forest picking out their clearing with relative ease. He knew the forest well and he would hardly forget that place. Moving the hand that was pressed against her stomach he pointed the way for her. “Breaks are nice and I would be a poor hunter if I couldn’t point out our spot.” He put a little emphasis on the ‘our’ part liking that she did still remember it even if she couldn’t find it. “I still have some good memories there and it’s still the best place to watch the sunset with a beautiful girl. At least it is for me. I’m glad you remember it.”

Ash’s eyes narrowed on the girl. He knew she was behind this and she all but admitted it with her words. He didn’t know what the girl’s plan was but she was greatly mistaken if she thought that he couldn’t see through this attack to know that there was something bigger going on here. He could lend his skills with the bow to help the camp but the only way to really kill a snake was to chop off its head and this particularly snake had caused enough trouble for one life time.
Ignoring her question Ash raised his bow and aimed at her. “What’s your goal here? You don’t really think this attack will accomplish anything do you? Why summon a monster if you know it will be killed?” The girl would pay for the blood that was on her hands but Ash hoped he could get something out of her to find out what was really going on here. If not then there was no reason to stand here discussing the matter. He might as well kill her here and move on to hunting down the rest of the traitors.

He was close to her now pressing into her back and holding on to her firmly. He liked being close to her like this, liked the smell of her hair, that spicy and yet sweet cinnamon smell of her shampoo that he remembered so well from that day in the cabin, and most of all he liked holding her like her had that night that she had fallen asleep in his arms. If the stunts had initially been to get close to her then he thought they had found other ways since then to do just that.
Softly he whispered in her ear. “I can think of some other thrilling stunts I would like to try that wouldn’t be so death-defying.” Ash rested his chin on her shoulder as he watched the world go by below them and let her think about that for a moment. They were still figuring a lot of things out but they were finding them out together which was a lot better than killing themselves when they were apart. It was probably still too early in their relationship to think about too many of those 'stunts' but he would be lying if he said he didn’t want to spend more time with her in many ways. “Probably not good to try them up here I would think.”

Ash thought to take the reigns himself but apparently Dakota had other ideas. He smirked and shook his head again. He could understand her need to take control. Riding along was all fine and good but sometimes you just needed to take the reigns. That being the case he decided to let Dakota have her fun. He was just going to enjoy the ride. Dropping one hand to grip the horn of the saddle and the other to rest reassuringly on the flat of her belly Ash leaned into her finding a comfortable spot and then they were away.
It didn't take long before they were soaring above the camp with the wind rushing around them. Ash loved being up here and this time it was made even better by the fact that Dakota was with him. "Certainly don't seem like you've lost any skill to me." He said close to her ear so that she could hear him over the wind. He gave her a gentle squeeze and settled back into the saddle to let her fly. "Enjoy yourself. You deserve it after everything we've been through. Meanwhile I'll sit here and enjoy you."

Ash felt bad for not being in the heat of the battle but when the attack had come he hadn't been close enough to camp to join the battle immediately. As such it allowed him to stay grimly focused on the task at hand. The beast roared and kids were dying but there was something more sinister than a random monster attack going on here. This had been planned and well orchestrated and whether it was by another camp or not he bet he could trace the origin back to at least one person he knew. Whatever Audrey was planning it involved more than just the destruction of camp and Ash decided it was time to find out once and for all what that was.
The son of Apollo kept his eyes open as he came back into camp. He would not be taken unawares by traitorous campers so he walked with his bow drawn and looking for signs of something that the others might miss during the distraction. Perhaps it was because of this that he spotted the girl slipping through the bushes. The very girl that was probably responsible for all this. She hadn't noticed him yet and perhaps that was for the best. He could have taken a shot that would have ended her but he wanted answers and it was that curiosity that caused him to call out to her before she got out of sight. "You! This is your doing isn't it?"

“Me cause trouble? Never.” He said as he helped her into the saddle. Truthfully his mischievous streak wasn’t that long. He was serious most of the time and Dakota knew that abut as well as anyone. Still, Dakota had a way of helping even a hard nose like him loosen up. There was a time when he would have looked at that as something of a weakness but now Ash didn’t think he minded very much. At least not when it involved her.
When she got into the saddle and offered her hand to him Ash took it and hoisted himself up with a shake of his head at her silliness. "If you're that impatient who am I to keep you waiting?" He said as he settled in behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist to take the reigns. "I don't like to keep either of my ladies waiting." With that he clucked side mouthed at Blue Sky and out they rode into the yard.

"I believe you're in good hands." He said as he fitted Blue Sky with her bridle. Ash was already thinking of this as a more peaceful ride. The stunts had their place but this time he just wanted to spend time with Dakota. He didn't need to impress her or get her to snuggle closer, he just need her to be herself and to be happy with him. He could be content with that. "Besides, I think you could probably teach me a thing or two if I started causing trouble."
Ash had no doubt Dakota could take care of herself up there even if he did get a little mischievous. He wouldn't tempt her tonight but the toughness she often displayed was one of the things he liked about her. No frail, defenseless Aphrodite girl this, instead she kind of broke all the molds which was nice.
With the preparations now complete. Ash was ready to get back up in the air with her again. Turning to Dakota, Ash held out his hand to her. "Come on. Let's get up there. I'll help you up?"

It had been a morning like any other the day of the attack. Ash had been out hunting since before sunrise and was headed back to camp with his catches like he had done on countless other occasions. He wasn't really thinking about the Usurpers or the plot he had been trying to uncover over the past few months. In fact, his thoughts weren't on serious topics at all. That all changed though when he heard the earth shattering roar.
Ash's mind switched effortlessly into that sharply focused battle mindset. The roar was coming from the ocean and that was precisely where he went dropping his game line with its collection of rabbits and racing towards an outcropping of rock that offered a good view of the bay. What he saw there was not encouraging however.
The monster was large and it already had its sights set on camp. Ash didn't know what kind of monster it was but right now it didn't matter. The only thing that mattered was that the camp was in trouble. What he had feared had finally happened and he hadn't been able to stop it. There was only one thing to do. He had to get back to camp but he would have to be careful too. There was something more going on here than a random monster attack. He would bet on it.

"Maybe we just liked making things harder for ourselves than is strictly necessary." He said as he worked at securing the riding straps so that they rested snugly against Blue Sky's flank. "At least now we've learned it’s better not to fight good things when we have them.” He paused here to look up at her. "I think it's working out for us better than alternative wouldn't you say?" Honestly he wished that they had never had to go through the pain of the past few months. Maybe he would be able to find some use in it someday but if he had just recognized her uncertainty to begin with he could have saved them a lot of heartache. Fortunately all that was behind them now.
He hoped it was in any case. They had kind of come to terms with everything but he still didn't know how Dakota felt about all this. Sure she was happier but so far he still wasn't sure she had decided on her feelings for him. Things were better though and it would work out eventually one way or the other. In any case he was in no rush to scare her off again. "Hopefully a ride will give you something else to be happy about as well. Have you missed being up there?"

The kiss was quick but it was enough. Ash had gone without them for longer than he would have liked and he wasn’t going to complain after everything they had been through. He smiled as she promised him more later and added. “For you I believe I can make an exception.” It was probably smart to wait but if the pegasi saw them and started spreading the news that he and Dakota were back together Ash didn’t think that would be so bad.
Releasing her from his embrace Ash went to help her make ready for the trip. While he grabbed Blue Sky’s saddle and bridle he glanced over at Dakota and watched her making preparations. It was hard to believe that not that long ago they had hardly been able to be close to each other but he for one was glad that was over. “You look happier than I’ve seen you in a while.” He commented as he began to saddle Blue Sky. He watched the girl admiringly while he worked and then continued. “It’s good to see you smile for real again. I like it.”

"If gossip is what you're afraid of I think you're in the wrong camp." Granted he knew that say was playing with him and didn't really mind but if the rumor mill hadn't swallowed them up by this point then it was pretty likely that they would be alright. Still, two could play at this game. "But if you can wait then I can too." After what they had been through he was sure they both had enough patience to last one flight. He didn't think he would need it though unless Dakota really was worried about the rumors.
"No, she's not mad." Ash said as he looked Blue Sky over. He had seen horses and pegasi when they were mad and if that's what Blue Sky was then she would have found a way to show it. More likely she was probably annoyed by the silly demigods who were more interested in talking than riding. "Let's take her out. I think she would like getting out and we might as well have another flight with her. She did bring us together after all."

“A few tricks.” He confirmed confidently but he didn’t want to scare her. He knew Dakota wasn’t a fan of his stunts even if they did have the added effect of getting her to snuggle into his arms. There were other ways to get close to her now and riding could be one of the more tame ones. "I promise to take it easy on you today but you may have to make it worth my while. It's not often that I have to keep my riding in check after all." It was a shameless attempt to get another kiss but he didn't think Dakota would mind. It would make their ride smoother after all.
Turning to Blue Sky he rested his hand on the pegasus' snout and petted her gently. "I don't think she'll object to having you back. Rusher and I have been keeping her company even when you couldn't." He turned back to look Dakota in the eyes hoping to give her a little confidence that she might be lacking. It had been a while but he had faith that he had been keeping Blue Sky happy. Hopefully she wouldn't hold a grudge at her absence. "She is still your pegasus. Nothing can change that."
