She turned to face Jay as his voice rang out, clearly adressing her. Her puffy bottom lip hung out in a pout as she sheathed Hell's Bane at her side, keeping one hand on the hilt. "There a reason you haven't talked to me in ages?" She shot back, blue-grey eyes stormy with anger. She didn't care for the answer as she already knew exactly why she'd lost his attention. All of his sun rays were shooting at her sister instead of her.
"You know what?" she spit, "I don't even fucking care." Melanie's own language surprised her. The girl usually avoided cussing, sticking to the more "suburban mom" versions of the forbidden words. Gosh dang and poop were often muttered under her breath, but she was furious enough to let the f-bomb slip.

It was almost October. Gods, that meant it was almost winter. The changing season was already beginning to have an effect on Melanie, despite the camp's barrier keeping them warm. The girl's skin had lost it's lively glow and appeared ashen. Her golden hair had even lost it's shine. It was even a bit ratty in all honesty as she hadn't even brushed it before leaving the Persephone cabin.
She found herself drawn to the Arena. Hell's Bane, the ornate stygian blade, was clenched tightly in her hand. Melanie's already pale knuckles were a pure white from how firmly she grasped the dagger. She knew that in time her motivation would be nonexistent and decided to make the most out of her time through training.
She didn't expect to see him there. Her sunshine. She wouldn't let him affect her, though. He had ruined her thoughts, tainted her mind. The impure thoughts she'd been having... They were too much. The petite girl marched right past him much like pouty Tinkerbell. She began to practice, Hell's Bane an extension of herself as she spun and swung like a violent ballerina. How could one look so graceful and and yet so enraged?

She usually loved Jay's laugh as it almost always followed something funny and of course would send her into giggles. Not this time though. This time his laughter was paired with annoyance, not joking or teasing. He was annoyed with her. The audacity! How dare he be annoyed when he was the one who hurt her in the first place. And then he had the nerve to act like she was the one being ridiculous... This would absolutely not stand.
The rather wounded girl was about to go off on him when the teacher's voice snapped her out of it. Of course, what am I thinking? I can't cause a scene in class... She sighed a bit, hands folded so tightly her knuckles began to turn white. She wasn't entirely sure why his laughter made her so angry, though her father's words echoed through her mind. "Anger is a secondary emotion," he had explained. "If someone is expressing anger they're probably hurt or frightened."
She jumped a bit as Jay's bag hit the floor, realizing that her father had been right. Melanie was hurt, though not entirely willing to admit or even comprehend why. She looked back at her best friend as their teacher took role. "I walked on my own," the girl said quietly as to not disturb the class. She wasn't a trouble maker and had never gotten a single mark in all of her school years. Her eyes returned to her desk where she stared at her hands before muttering, "I saw you kiss Alexis,"

Her eyes widened as Jay offered her the piece. She nodded happily, a wide smile upon her face. The painting certainly wasn't perfect, but she was elated to receive it none-the-less. She had quite the collection of art projects back home, gifts from friends and family, though most of them were from her sister. Elise was no artist but spent loads of time making things for Melanie, from cards to sculptures. Jay's gift reminded her greatly of those times and she could feel the beginnings of tears well up in her eyes.
"Thank you so much," she sniffled with sincerity as she went in for a hug. She had to stand on her tip toes to give the boy a proper hug considering he was at least a foot taller than she. "And I'd love to learn about Bruce Lee!" She said happily, pulling away and fetching the painting. The girl was pondering on where she'd put it, most likely above her bunk if there was room. "Until next time, Jay." she giggled as she made her way out of the art building, words promising more talks to come.

Was he looking for a fight? Not that Mel condoned violence of course, but she wasn't at all afraid to give the tatted boy a piece of her mind. Of course his bulging muscles were rather intimidating, but she would resort to using Hell's Bane if needed. She doubted the boy could do much with a Stygian iron blade in him.
"My bum may be nice, but frankly that's none of your business." She grumbled, blushing with slight hesitance at her initial words. She had never thought of her backside as nice or hot or any of those things. She never even though of herself as any of those things. She was just sort of there. Boys didn't pay attention to her, though she didn't really mind. Leo teasingly complimenting her... 'buttocks' was definitely strange to her.

His voice made her stomach lurch and she felt as if she might lose her breakfast. He had promised nothing would ever get between them. Melanie had never broken a promise and never would, but clearly Jay didn't hold himself to the same standard. Maybe she just had to let it go, find a new friend. Of course she had plenty of friends as she was a rather friendly person, but Jay was the only one she felt completely comfortable with. She had told the boy her deepest secrets for fricks sake, things she was almost afraid to admit to herself.
"Leave me alone, Jay." she muttered, thinking it'd be rather immature of her to keep up a silent treatment when he was speaking to her directly. Sure she was hurt but she wasn't about to be straight up rude. All she had to do was get through class without interacting with Jay. She willed herself to do so, telling herself she'd only have to ignore her best-friend for another hour. And then the day after that. And then the one after that. Oh gods, this was going to be hard, especially if she had to see him every day.

Melanie was late. It wasn't like her to be late. In all honestly the girl hadn't been herself at all. She had considered skipping class all together but decided against it. Her education was far too important to skip, especially for her emotions. Actually building up the courage to come took more time than she had expected. Her pace was brisk as she exited the bathroom, her small feet clapping against the hard marble floors. She hadn't meant to spend quite so much time in front of the mirror, panic hitting her once she realized what time it was. What was she doing in the bathroom exactly? Giving herself a bit of a pep-talk in the mirror. She shouldn't have to give herself a pep-talk to see her best friend. That was never part of the plan. Things rarely ever go as plan though.
She stopped in her tracks once she saw the door to English class looming before her. She took a deep breath, trying to remember her little pep-talk. None of it seemed to matter, all of her silly words rushing away as her delicate hand reached for the door-knob. And there he was. Her complete idiot of a best friend. She quickly made her way to her desk which was unfortunately situated right beside the boy she'd been trying so hard to ignore. At the beginning of the year she would've never guessed that the two of them wouldn't be talking. She never assumed sitting next to him would be a problem.
She neatly folded her hands on her desk, large blue eyes glancing at Jay before returning to the front of the class. She took another deep breath, trying her best to keep a stony face. She couldn't let him know she was upset, though no doubt he'd noticed her ignoring him. What would she do if he confronted her about it? In all honesty she didn't even know why she was upset. Maybe it was the sinking feeling in her stomach when she walked in on him kissing Alexis, no doubt the most popular girl on campus. The girl was hot too, large breasts, revealing clothes, and a model face plastered in mastered make-up. Everything that Melanie lacked. Jay hadn't even noticed that Mel saw or maybe he just didn't care. She had left immediately, booking it home only to crumple onto her bed and cry. And gods did she hate crying.

Frankly, Melanie found the story of Cinderella rather sweet. A bit possessive, sure, but she found it lovely how hard the prince had worked for his princess. No one would ever travel an entire kingdom for her, let alone touch stranger's stinky feet. Of course she'd want a healthy relationship with trust, not all that possessive stuff. She didn't need a relationship though and certainly wasn't looking for one. The girl believe in such fairy tales as soul-mates and was patiently waiting for hers to come along.
"I suppose such a frightening truth to what was once a childhood memory isn't the best thing to learn," she mused with an apologetic smile. She hoped that knowing some parts of her darkness wouldn't scare the Apollo boy off. It would suck to lose him so early into their friendship. "I'll try to share more fun fun-facts next time," she promised with a giggle.

She perched on the rock beside him like a small bird, hands neatly folded in her lap. She took care to make sure her dress remained stationary under her thighs, knees pressed closely together. No way would she flash the boy again, and certainly not while in such close contact. Their legs were practically touching to her discomfort.
She was about to argue with his comment on her control over Cherry as well as the use of the word 'beast'. Cherry Blossom was certainly no beast! He was a magnificent creature who did as he wished. It wasn't Mel's fault if he happened to want to fly. Besides, it was partially her fault for keeping him cooped up for as long as she did.
Unfortunately, she didn't have the chance, interrupted by the boy's rather rude words. First of all, he had cussed, causing her eyes to widen slightly. Her parents never cursed and neither did she. The girl was rarely exposed to such language besides the few times she'd hear foul-mouthed campers. Second of all, she didn't quite appreciate such vulgar comments about her body. "That's quite rude," she said matter-of-factly. "You shouldn't speak to girls that way,"

A shiver ran down her spine, but this time it wasn't from the cold. A small smirk lay upon the boy's face, bringing heat to her own. She tried to show no response to his wink as she wrapped her arms over her chest, some subconscious form of protection. Something about the stranger put her on edge, though she wasn't sure of what exactly. Her knife felt heavy at her side, seeming to sense her heightened anxiety. Of course inanimate objects can't read emotions, but it was magical after all.
"Hi," she said with confidence, shaking off any fear. "I'm sorry about all of that. He's a wild spirit. Do you mind if I take a seat?" she asked with a smile. Even if the boy intimated her slightly she would still try and befriend him. She was never one to run away from social interactions, seeking them out if anything. Perhaps she would scold him for his winking as she didn't quite appreciate being hit on. She wasn't entirely comfortable with complete strangers flirting with her, even if she did accidentally flash them.

Melanie knew she should've been paying more attention to her pegasus over the past few months. She hadn't been neglecting the mustang, visiting frequently to feed him. She hadn't had the energy to take him out flying however, but had recently been feeling guilt over it. It's not like the girl no longer cared for her pegasus, she loved him dearly, but it can be hard to take care of others when you struggle to take care of yourself.
The weather was a bit chilly for her taste, the pale girl walking briskly towards the stable. It was oddly empty, though she could feel the warmth of the stables long before she arrived. Perhaps it was her godly powers or something, as she always seemed to bend to the heat as a flower did the sun. There was a boy already sitting near the stable. Her blue eyes briefly met his but were quickly averted. She wrapped her arms around herself to brace against the cold, pale cheeks tinged pink from the cold air.
The girl let out a small sigh of relief as she entered the stables, letting the warm air of life envelope her. A soft smile blessed her innocent face as she met her lovely pegasus, his wings fluttering in excitement as she fed him. She reined the stallion, not bothering to saddle him, and led him out of the stables, the magnificent beast towering above her as she was rather short. They clashed in comparison, his almost blood red coat striking against her silvery hair.
The wind blew against her and she mused that it must've been a bit angry as her light pink dress billowed around her. It was a bit shorter than she'd usually wear, but it was the only thicker dress she owned and had been hoping the warm fabric would protect her from the cold. Besides, she wasn't planning on staying out for too long. She just wanted to let Cherry stretch his wings. She squeaked a bit as the wind picked up once again, raising the skirt of her dress and exposing her undergarments. Her small hands dropped the rein to flatten down her dress, holding it in place.
Cherry Blossom took this as a signal to run, whinnying excitedly before taking off. "Cherry!" she shouted after him in exasperation as he took off, brilliant auburn feathers shining in the sun as he spread her wings. She groaned while watching him fly swiftly through the clouds, still holding her dress to her legs. She didn't worry too much about losing him as she knew the pegasus would return before nightfall, but she was still a bit irritated. She supposed that's what she got for having a mustang with such a wild spirit. The girl glanced over to see the tattooed boy watching her and smiled apologetically, hoping she hadn't disturbed the boy's peace.

She crinkled her nose, sticking out her tongue. "The prince in Snow White is creepy!" She complained. Who marries someone the day after meeting them? She just didn't understand all the princess stuff. Though she did think it'd be rather nice to live in the forest surrounded by animal friends. She had at one point in her life, but it was no longer safe for such dreams. Not with monsters coming after her.
"Though he isn't as bad as the prince in Sleeping Beauty." the girl mused, a look of horror on her face. "You know in the original story he impregnated her in her sleep and it was the pain of childbirth that awoke her?" Melanie shivered a bit at the thought. How could anyone ever be so twisted to do such a thing? She couldn't even think about kissing without turning pink. She did quite love the old Grimm tales though. Many nights were spent reading them with her father. She loved fairy tales, especially the darker ones even if they did scare her.

She shook her head in amusement, doubting the boy was any form of bad ass. Most demigods could take care of themselves, but not many were actual fighters. Take her for example. She never wants to fight anyone and certainly doesn't enjoy it but can keep herself alive if needed. She didn't like to kill, regardless if it was a monster or not. The girl wanted to bring life, not end it. Mel noticed Jay eyeing her blade which she supposed was a bit terrifying. "Don't worry, I won't stab you." she promised in complete seriousness. The girl could be a bit odd.
"I'm not much of a fighter," she said with a shrug as if it wasn't already obvious. She practically looked like a little fairy with her small fragile features. Heck the girl had to stand on her tippy-toes to reach things. No one would assume she could reign in battle. She nodded in agreement, saying as sweetly as ever, "I'd say you're rather charming, yeah." It wasn't meant to be flirtatious or anything. She just thought the boy was polite and kind. She liked those qualities in people.

She shook her head quickly, not intending to come off as wounded. "You're not being rude," she said with a smile to back up her words. Her eyes traveled over his face, pausing on his lips. Her brow furrowed slightly, trying to comprehend his body language. People confused her sometimes and as much as she loved having plenty of friends she always felt more comfortable around animals. They were easy to understand unlike the boy in front of her. Mel realized she was staring a bit and quickly looked back up to meet his gaze.
The comment about his mom made her chest tighten a bit. Gods did she miss her family. Of course she'd never have the chance to see her father again unless she traveled to the Underworld, a thought that made a shiver travel down her spine. No way in Hades would she ever go down there. Her little sister and step-mom, though... The girl had thought about visiting them, but she didn't want to bring them any more trouble. Her heritage had already caused their father to be ripped away and that was enough damage as it was.
"Dang. I was hoping you could teach me some super cool ninja skills," she joked, as that had never been her intention. "I'm not much of a fighter, though. I have my knife and that's about it," Hell's Bane seemed to get heavier at the mention of it, the Stygian iron blade strapped to her side as always. It was almost comical, such a gentle girl having the fear-striking weapon all while in her childish dress.

She shook her head with slight embarrassment, pale cheeks tinged pink. "I've never really watched tv..." she admitted quietly. She had read plenty of books and enjoyed hours of music, but never once sat down to watch a movie. It had never really bothered her until now. She didn't want to seem to odd and hopefully her lack of popular knowledge wouldn't ruin their blossoming friendship.
She did know plenty about martial arts though. She wasn't very skilled herself besides the occasional tai chi with her father. The two of them would always rise with the sun to feed and care for the animals, some mornings spent practicing the gentle art form atop their mountain. "Do you know martial arts, then?" she asked, trying to shake her embarrassment.
