Axel really wasn’t your average Centurion. Yes, he followed most of the rules, but that definitely didn’t stop him from breaking his least favorite one: drinking in camp. Everyone had their secrets about hiding their alcohol, and he and Aubin seemed to take the crown tonight. The two heard about the fourth cohort party earlier in the day, and knew it was time to break out their stash. Although they figured Flynn had most of it covered, it just felt wrong to go empty handed. Being the son of Venus as he was, naturally it took longer for Axel to get ready for the party. It worked out better anyway, and he sent Aubin with the drinks in first. While Axel still did not take as long to get ready as the average girl, he did more than just throw together whatever clothing was in sight like most guys would do. Not only did he have to pick a coordinating outfit that he vibed with, but he had to style his long hair. While there was a closer shave on the side of his head, he couldn’t let the flop of hair on top go natural at the wild party that was sure to be going on now. A couple minutes behind Aubin, Axel entered the fourth cohorts common room to find his wingman already talking it up with a group of girls. He walked over to them, already having a slight buzz from the shots he took in his room, grabbed a drink from the bag, and put his arm on Aubin’s shoulder. He couldn’t let his Venus kin get too ahead of him in the game. “Well, I’m Axel, you’re Jen, and uh…” Axel trailed off and looked around to see who else was there. Two other girls he didn’t really know, and then Astrid. She’s here?The boy had no idea what to think, he never thought this would be the girl’s kind of scene, never kissing a guy and all. Axel shrugged. “You didn’t know, I won’t tell on you.” The boy smiled at the mention of his priceless daggers and pulled them out of their holsters, twirling them around his hand. “I worked hard to learn how to fight with these bad boys.” He nodded at her next comment. “Ah yes, but it’s all about getting creative.” Axel winked, hoping this would shut her up and take the hit.
The demigod sat back and listened to her story. He took it in seriously, but was also surprised Astrid was telling him about her sexuality right off the bat. He understood the process she had to go through. Axel liked a straight shooter. Although Axel had to smirk when she admitted that the girl did indeed find him attractive. He was used to people thinking that of him, but it felt nice to hear it out loud. Once Astrid was finished, Axel replied slowly. “Well… then I guess this is a good start.” Gods, he was such a flirt.
This girl could really talk your ear off. Although, Axel supposed this was all coming from her excitement of being at camp. He couldn’t blame her really, but he let the girl talk as she unpacked her things. “Pretty much, the cohorts get assigned to do something different each day.” The boy just chuffed at her remark on rewards. Although he couldn’t read what Astrid meant by a satisfactory nap. With her? Axel definitely wasn’t going to admit that sounded just the slightest bit nice.
“It’s alright about your mom, that’s what I went through too.” Axel laughed. He rarely forgot to talk about himself. “I’m a son of Venus.” He rolled up the sleeve of his right arm, exposing his underarm and camp tattoo. Axel stepped into the room closer to Astrid so she could see it closer. “As you can see here, my mothers symbol is on the top, a half of a clam shell and myrtle flower. Underneath is S.P.Q.R. for the roman legion, and underneath that are bars representing how many years I’ve served. I just got my fifth bar about two months ago.” The last brand was still healing, and was still a bit sore. He looked at Astrid to watch her reaction, whom he now had to look down to, as she was much shorter.

Axel rolled his eyes. "Hm, I’m sure that’s exactly what they said. But hey in my defense, we're required to carry a weapon you're skilled with at all times, and most people around here carry more than one.” The boy pointed at the daggers on his hips and the sword. Even though Camp Jupiter was safe for the most part, any demigod he knew wouldn’t go around without some form of defense on them at all times. Besides, the medics never carried weapons anyway. Axel looked down at the ground and laughed at her next comment. "They didn’t mention that because they haven’t had the experience…” He paused, looking up at Astrid. "But you have!”
Walking with the girl, he listened to her ramble on about the medics. He had been there so many times due to him being stupid and getting injured skateboarding or surfing he lost track. Although not one of them were from fighting. But he wasn’t going to let Astrid in on that. He came back out of his thoughts when Astrid said she never fancied him. Lies. He scoffed, his reply dripping in sarcasm. "Yeah ok, keep telling yourself that.”
As they walked towards the Fourth’s barracks, Axel was again bombarded with questions. He let Astrid finish with her remark on getting a reward for putting up with her antics. "In a way, yes. In battles you tend to fight with your cohort, as well as some trainings and duties you have to do around camp.” Axel paused, taking in another breath to continue. "Lupa determines your cohort, and as for how you did at the wolf house, only she knows. Sometimes kids get letters of recommendation letters from their godly kin. And correct, that’s what a Centurion is.” Axel shook his head and scowled. "All the Centurions are the Praetor’s bitches, I just happen to be their favorite at the moment. I’m still waiting on my reward, though.”
The two had come up to the barracks and Axel led her inside through the common room and into the hallway lined with rooms. Astrid then moved past him to claim a room. "Hey, you brought up the nap, not me.” Axel tried to hold in a smile and held his hands up innocently as he leaned his shoulder against the doorway. He watched, crossing his arms, as what seemed to be Astrid’s mother claiming her. "Yeah, generally that’s what happens when your godly parent claims you around here. Your mom must be Victoria.” He noticed the laurel crests appearing all around her room.

Axel held the girl’s gaze as they shook hands. He laughed again at her joke and nodded his head in confirmation. At least she seemed somewhat prepared for what she was getting into here. Astrid also seemed like the girl who wouldn’t really take other people’s shit anyway. You definitely needed to be able to hold your own in New Rome. Now that the formalities had been taken care of, Axel had the feeling he was about to get bombarded with questions. Lupa failed to explain anything about the camp’s structure and way of life. He made a mental side note to talk to a Praetor about getting Lupa to explain at least the basics of Camp Jupiter politics. "Well, I hope they gave me a killer description, or I’ll definitely need to have a talking to with them about who they’re dealing with here.” They weren’t only dealing with a centurion, but a Son of Venus. No one should be going around disrespecting Venus and her kin on their looks. No one.
”Gods, those idiots didn’t tell you anything about me if they didn’t tell you that.” Axel rolled his eyes. That was like the biggest part of his description: the best looking guy in camp who also has a totally badass sense of style and carries around weapons all the time. What Axel found the most interesting though was that Astrid had not ever found anyone attractive before. Ah, wait. Powers, duh. But Axel knew that she actually thought that now, which was extremely satisfying to the boy. Smirking and giving her a sexy side eye glance, he replied, ”Ah yes, doesn’t it feel great. You’ve picked the right guy to fancy.” Axel gave her a wink, as he turned around to begin leading her to their first destination.
"Grab you're stuff, I might as well just show you your cohort barracks and explain on the way." Axel began walking and expected Astrid to follow. "A cohort is like your military unit, like a battalion in the regular military. There are five of them here, ranked as first is made up with the most skilled legionnaires, while the fifth is made up of the worst. You're in the fourth, so, well, you're not the best..." Axel really didn't know how else to put it. Oh well. "A centurion is the one in charge of the cohort. There isn't a centurion for your cohort right now, so they chose me to guide you around camp, because I'm the centurion of the third cohort. That or the legion thinks I'm their bitch, which they would be correct in thinking that." Axel chuckled and shook his head. The accuracy in his joke... The two were coming up on the barracks, and the boy led them to the fourth one. "This is where you and all the other kids in your cohort sleep. Put your stuff in an empty room and we'll get going. Maybe we'll nap later." No, they probably would not nap later, and Axel was harmlessly flirting with the poor new girl. He couldn't help it, it was in his nature.
(I didn't know how to make this post short, Astrid asked a lot of questions. XD )

In the distance, Axel found someone approaching the Principa. And at a slow, painful pace at that. Smirking, Axel watched the girl take in the views. He remembered doing the exact same thing as he walked through camp for the first time. Camp Jupiter was stunning, and Axel still thought that five years later. It was it's own little ecosystem, everything had a place and a purpose and a function. He had a feeling the new girl would fit in just fine, her body language didn't express fear anyway, just curiosity.
As she came closer into view, Axel caught her eye and made a quick up-down nod to signal for her to come over. When she asked his name he flashed his smile. "Yeah that's me. Nice to meet you, Astrid." The centurion held out his hand to shake hers. Axel figured he should start out somewhat formal with her, he didn't want to scare her away with any sarcasm or joke just yet. Only once she was comfortable with him on their tour would he test her. Laughing, Axel said, "You'll find out soon most of us are asses around here." The fact was completely true. They were Romans after all. They all knew how to have a good time and slay a monster at the same time. No ordinary person could do that and not give each other shit to let out their stress.
Axel cleared his throat. "Anyway, welcome to Camp Jupiter. I'm the Centurion of the Third Cohort, and I'll be your, uh, 'tour guide' today." The boy made air quotes with his hands around the words "tour guide". With the shock of seeing camp for the first time, Axel would try to make the experience as normal as he could. This place wasn't normal though, and he was sure she'd already figured that out anyway.

Axel remembered his arrival day to camp like it was yesterday. He was scared shitless, that's for sure. But that was natural. Everyone had a different experience, and he was determined to make this new girl's as painless as possible. Well, aside from getting her S.P.Q.R. tattoo part. That would probably hurt a little. He would introduce her to the basics around camp, give her a tat, and bring her to her barracks. As long as she didn't come in overwhelmed, she would be fine. The centurion had been briefed on the basics of the new member to the legion this morning. As far as he knew, the girl's name was Astrid, her mother was Victoria, she was in the Fourth Cohort, she was sixteen, and she had just come from sick bay due to a gash on her head. Everything else, he would be happy to learn from talking to the girl. Although he was happy to initiate Astrid to Camp Jupiter, he was a bit annoyed that someone from her own cohort didn't volunteer to do this. Those guys are lazy anyway, Axel thought with a scoff. Axel had to admit though, he was at least a bit excited to meet a new girl, maybe something good would come out of it. Walking to the Principa, Axel flaunted some of his weapons to look like a legionnaire, but also but on a nice outfit because he could. His two daggers were strapped to both his hips over his black ripped jeans cuffed at the ankle, and a sword hung at his side. Other than that, he wore black combat boots and a black leather jacket open with a white tee underneath. Hair done up, he looked pretty good, and his mother would definitely be proud. Only time would tell if Astrid was ready to become a part of the legion, and Axel was ready to introduce it to her. Astrid Hawke

Axel was a sucker for pineapple pizza. Maybe it was an LA thing, but he remembered always splitting a pie with his twin brother and older sister all the time back home. He often left camp himself on holiday's just to visit them and continue their tradition. Pineapple pizza was like a necessity at least once a week even if he didn't have anyone to eat with, and his favorite restaurant was just around the corner where he could just about eat an entire pie by himself. The young man didn't eat breakfast just for this occasion. However, he would have company for once. Cameron, another centurion, had left camp for a bit after the kraken attack, and Axel wanted to treat him to a good meal and time to catch up after his absence. The two had a lot in common, so it was no wonder they were friends. They were both centurions, first of all, so they were able to discuss and exchange ways to run their cohorts. The two were also athletes, and enjoyed the sport of football. They could always depend on one another to go on morning runs together or sit down and watch a game in the rec room. Axel missed having his dependable friend around, and thus was excited to hopefully go back to where they were. Axel arrived at the pizzeria at exactly 12:00, where Axel had told Cam to meet him. As he entered the door, is stomach gave a loud growl, and the hostess gave Axel a little giggle. Winking at her, he said, "Sorry cutie, I'm here to meet one of my boys." The son of Venus couldn't help but turn on his charm speak. After all, she was cute, but there were also a few people who seemed to be waiting. "Don't think you could get me a table for two could you?" The waitress led him to a cleared table by the window where Axel gave his thanks with a napkin with his number on it, and she walked away smiling. Axel sat to wait for Cam. (We had discussed before that they were friends before Cam left camp, so I hope this is ok. I tried to be as vague as possible so you could add your own input, but let me know if you want anything to change.) Cameron James

Winter. The only good things about the brick-tit season was that Axel could snowboard and drink absurd amounts of hot chocolate. And his winter wardrobe was pretty dope. The now-pale, usually tanned, white boy sneezed as snow flew up his nose. "Screw this weather..." the boy growled, pulling his beanie further over his ears. Whatever higher up had the bright idea of having a meeting in this snowstorm could go to the underworld for all he cared.
Trudging through the snow back to the Third Cohort barracks, Axel zipped his white puffer jacket all the way up to his nose, so his face was barely showing now. All that was keeping him going was the hot chocolate that was waiting for him back in his bunk. He would sit by the little hearth in the cabin and boil water and defrost his bones. Picking up speed, he saw a dash of color hurry into a small alleyway. He looked around and followed the foot prints with his eyes back to the porch of his barracks. Hmmm, sneaky.
The centurion climbed up on top of the shortest building surrounding the alley to see what this girl was doing. He couldn't recognize who it was behind the heavy winter jacket, but he could tell it was a girl. He watched her dig something out of a brick wall with curiosity, and eventually saw something shiny touch her lips. He sighed. It was definitely Jen. He didn't know of a bigger rebel in his cohort. He had to give it to her though, she was very careful about her little hiding spot. Axel would have never found it had he not seen her slip away.
Calling down to the girl with a tight smile as he climbed back down into the alley to meet her, Axel said, "Oh hey Jen, almost didn't see you there. Nice set up ya got there." He looked down to the flask she had just put into her boot. Axel unzipped his coat a little so she could see who he was.

Axel && Cameron
In your update, you said since after the kraken attack Cam has left camp to relax, correct? I was thinking that these two could have been good friends before the attack. I’m not sure if it’s a thing that centurions from other cohorts are friends, but Cam and Axel’s personalities would probably go well together. Axel obviously cares about the structure of the legion, but he could also introduce a little fun to Cam. When he comes back to camp, maybe they could be catching up? Let me know your thoughts, I just would like to see Axel with more like-minded guy friends.
Axel && Jen
With Axel being her centurion, I feel like him and Jen could have a funny love-hate friendship. Axel clearly wants to keep the cohort in line, but with Jen’s very carefree attitude and leaving things to chance, Axel could try to rein her in in any way he could. Although he respects her actions in battle. They could have fun bantering, as Axel isn’t serious all of the time. He loves to having a good time when he’s not swamped with legion duties, and also shares the love of shopping with Jen. Their friendship could be like a comedic relief almost lol.

Axel && John
I can definitely see these two being very good friends. Reading your plotter for John, I think him and Axel have similar personalities in the sense that they are looking for a close group of friends with the same values. Axel is very loyal to the legion and takes pride in his role and training, as does John. However, he needs a pal to have fun with as well as trust with anything, and I think these two could be great together!

Axel gave the augur a blank stare. “I uh...” He held up the camera hanging around his neck. “I actually just came here to take pictures of the statue for the camp brochure.” Axel gave a small smile, hoping he would not offend the boy. It sounded almost disrespectful, as someone, the camp’s augur no less, was using the statue for its purpose. Temple Hill was never a place Axel frequently visited, and he certainly never spoke to any of the Gods. He simply had never had the need to, but the place did intimidate the young man. It was a place were being a demigod felt real, and sometimes he didn’t realize that it was his reality.
Unfreezing his body, Axel began to step backwards slowly. “I can come back later if you want, it wouldn’t be a bother...” He pointed his thumb over his shoulder. For whatever reason, Axel felt a little uneasy around someone who could see into the future. It was almost as if he was afraid he would find out something bad was going to happen to him, or someone he cared for. Nevertheless, he respected the augur and did not want to get on his bad side either.

Axel loved the early mornings, they were calm and vibrant. The sky looked so fresh, like nothing bad could have happened the day before. So full of hope. This is why he had volunteered to update the camp brochure of the pictures of temple hill. Plus it would be a break from his usual combat-related duties where he could just relax for a moment. Taking photos and videos of things was one of his secret passions not many people knew about around camp, as he always went out alone.
The usually energetic and rambunctious teenager woke up to the sun just beginning to rise, and let out of large yawn. Not wanting to wake the rest of the Third Cohort, Axel tip-toed out of his bunk and slipped into cuffed black jeans, blue Vans, and a simple white tee. Today he needed to feel the part of an artist at work, hence the out of place outfit for a legionnaire. Being a son of Venus, he had a strong interest in fashion. He preferred either an athletic or modern/skater look paired with the occasional modern look with combat boots.
Sneaking out of the barracks, Axel began his hike to Temple Hill with his camera hanging around his neck. When he was finally at the top, he knelt down to take pictures of the temple of Bellona. Making his way through each temple, Axel found himself last at the temple Jupiter Optimus Maximus. As he entered, he could hear the voice of another boy whom he recognized. It was the camp's Augur, whose name he could not remember. Axel's shoes made a loud tap tap in the echoing chamber, and he froze, no idea what to do, and not wanting to interrupt the boy's prayer, or whatever he was doing at the foot of the statue.

Cringing a bit at the girl's fall, Axel watched as she gathered herself to stand back up to her feet. With his eyebrow raised, he listened to her fessing up that she really didn't get permission to leave camp grounds. As he predicted. Axel had no idea what the girl was doing, but she smiled at him, so he gave a hesitant smile in return. Ah, getting out of camp, that sounds nice. Axel disregarded all of this girls antics that led up to this point, and chuckled, "Yeah man, I know how you feel. Lemme just get something from my bunk so its down on paper that you left." He turned his back to the girl and walked back to the barracks.
Once inside, Axel threw off his nice clothes, an outfit put together to look presentable at the meeting, and climbed into a pair of workout shorts and a tank top with dirtied pair of Vans. He grabbed his small day pack in which he put a beanie in case his hair got too messy, a camera, and a few extra snacks. Next, Axel unclipped his two daggers from the belt loops of his last outfit and fastened them to his shorts. Almost forgetting about the little permission slip, he looked quickly around for paper and sort of 'signed' himself out, signed his name, and took it along for the girl to sign as well.
Approaching the girl with a smug look on his face, knowing she wasn't expecting company on her little adventure, Axel handed her the paper and pen. "Just sign here so I have something to show if anyone asks questions. Oh, and I'm coming with you, surprise!" Smiling, he hoped to take the girl off guard. Axel had caught the girl looking towards the tunnel, somewhere he hadn't been before. The son of Venus was always down to explore, and she seemed to have the right idea about getting out of camp for a good dose of nature.

A giant yawn escaped the centurion's mouth as he blinked the drowsiness out of his eyes. Axel was typically interested in war council meetings, but today nothing that they hadn't already knew was reported. He tuned out most of the reports after the first few, and the rest of the time he fought off sleep. It would look terrible for a centurion who was supposed to be listening to reports to fall asleep. These meetings were vital to the wellness of the legion, with the number of enemies on the rise and all.
As his head was bobbing up and down, he startled when who must have been a praetor called the conclusion to the meeting. "Thank the Gods," someone had exclaimed, to which Axel gave a small scoff to. He looked around to the other centurions, and they didn't look any more enthused than he, but did not respond well to the girl's comment. Oh please, they can't be having any fun either, get the stick out of your asses, Axel thought to himself. Shoving his chair back, Axel followed the flow of kids out the door. Crisp air blew at his face and he let out a sigh of relief. It was good to be back outside.
The boy walked back towards the Barracks of the Third Cohort with a spring in his step, instantly in a better mood. Quizzically, he looked at a girl who looked ready for adventure going towards the boarder of camp. He'd seen her around before, but didn't know her name. She had obviously just been in the meeting, so couldn't have been granted permission to leave camp in the few moments they had been released. "Hey you there, yeah the one with the pack on walking away." Axel didn't mean to sound angry, but someone could have mistaken him for seeming like it. "Did you get permission to leave?" It was standard protocol, and with all the people around, he couldn't just let this slide or he'd get in more trouble than being caught almost falling asleep at the war council meeting.
