Axel revealed a wide grin. “Ah, so you are enjoying it.” Of course she was, anyone who had eyes would, in his opinion. He thought it was quite cute how she called him a dork. As if he knew he didn’t have to flex to look good. It was his turn to roll his eyes at Astrid’s remark. He dismissed her comment with a flip of his hand. Axel wouldn’t go that hard, anyway. He caught Astrid really looking at him too, but with her personality, he wasn’t sure if she was just doing that for his unbearably large ego. Oh well, a check out was a check out. The boy watched the other demigod with a serious smile as she commended his teaching skills. “Thank you, I’ve been doing this long enough I’d hope to be able to pass what I’ve learned to others.” Axel had trained many demigods in his years being a legionnaire, and he wasn’t about to stop here. It gave him peace that he could teach others how to protect those who led a dangerous life of a demigod. It especially pleased him that Astrid was an excellent fighter. He couldn’t be worrying about her anymore than he already would just because, well, now he cared about her just a little bit more than most of the other campers. Axel nodded to her suggestion. “Yeah, I’ve had enough training with my brother for that one…” He smirked, knowing that was one of their favorite activities to do: spar. Axel laughed, pulling Astrid up. Although when she stood, the two were quite close, their noses almost touching. Not wanting to take the more… romantic route yet, Axel turned what could have been a very awkward moment into a silly one by playfully blowing a raspberry in her face. He let go of her hand as she stretched, and thought about where they could get ingredients for a moment. “Yeah, there should be a little market in town that you can get what you need.” Axel then remembered that they were disheveled and covered in sweat. Definitely in no condition to go out in public. “We should probably clean up first, though. I don’t know about you, but I feel gross.” He smirked, feeling the sweat drip down his body. Shivering in disgust, he motioned to the barracks. “Come on, lets go.”(Apparently some people don't know what 'blowing a raspberry' means so here. It sounded better than "making a farting noise in her face" XD )

Finally Jen had loosened up. That in itself was an accomplishment. Just by being Jen’s centurion, he was fully aware about how much she hated the authority of Camp Jupiter. Although for today, at least, Axel seemed to be the exception. Rolling his eyes and shaking his head, he reluctantly followed Jen back to their barracks as she called him ‘fuzz’. It was odd for the girl to be leading him back, although in a weird way she was almost doing him a favor. He didn’t want anything to spill in his room, and he didn’t need anyone suspecting suspicious activities going on in his. He looked around a bit nervously as they made their way back, making sure no one saw the pair go back together, and more importantly, into Jen’s room.
Stepping through the held door, Axel inspected the girl’s room. It looked similar to his, with his armor and weapons out and easily accessible, and the trophies he’d acquired over the years. There was nothing that he could get in trouble for one of his legionnaires for having, so Axel didn’t particularly care that it wasn’t very neat. Once the door was securely shut behind them, the demigod unzipped his jacket and hung it on her bedpost. She did say to make himself feel at home, after all, and seeing as their rooms had the same setup, it wasn’t very hard to. Bottle in his hand, he plopped down on the bed next to Jen, leaning against the wall behind it. He wasn’t about to sit on the floor.
Axel chuckled. “Nah, the bottle is already chilled, and I drink it from here anyway.” He unscrewed the cap and brought the bottle to his lips, taking a long swig. He sighed, enjoying the sensation of the alcohol slightly burning the back of his throat. It had been a while, Axel hadn’t had an early day in at least a month where he could do whatever he pleased.
The boy felt Jen’s eyes on him as she took a drink herself. Cocking a brow, Axel listened as she called him a goody-two-shoes. He let the insult roll over him, just as his did with most of Jen’s “jokes”, since he rarely had a good comeback to match her. Of all the people Axel bullshitted with, Jen was definitely the best of the best. Axel held up the bottle so Jen could see the label. “Well I’m glad I left an impression on you. Capt. Morgan’s Spiced Rum. Goes down smooth.” He took another long drink of the dark liquid, starting to feel a slight fuzziness in his head. “What’s in the infamous flask, huh?”

It was good Axel had decided to call their session to a close when he did, because Astrid looked just as beat as he did. Not in a gross way, though, he admired the girl for being able to keep up with the more experienced demigod. She was a hockey player though, and from what he could tell, it was not an easy sport, and one needed to be in good shape to be able to excel. He could especially tell from her body. Much like him, the girl had ditched most of her clothing once they started to sweat, and it was hard for Axel to keep focused on the fighting. Although, he probably didn’t let his guard down enough for Astrid to realize he was checking her out. At least he hoped so.
Axel caught Astrid’s laugh as he flexed his arms and abs. He looked down at his six and then back up at the girl with narrowed eyes and a sly smile. “Oh come on, you can’t tell me you’re not enjoying the view.” The boy had put in work to create his sculpted body, and he wasn’t about to hide it, especially when he was on an unconventional date with a beautiful girl that gave him a valid excuse to take his already revealing shirt off.
Axel nodded at Astrid’s reasoning. The sword was made of a metal rather than wood of a hockey stick, but the length and weight did seem similar. Now that she mentioned it, Axel recognized the other demigod’s more accurate and precise movements with the sword. “Well, now you can fight with both if needed. I’m glad you still liked the daggers though.” He paused from stretching and put pulled his black daggers out of the ground, whipped them off, and put them back in their holsters at his hips. At Astrid’s question about making them spaghetti, his jaw dropped. “You mean to tell me you forgot about the spaghetti?” His stomach audibly growled. He smiled, letting on that he was joking. Finishing his last stretch, he got himself up and picked is tank top up and hung it around his neck. Next, he held his hand down to help Astrid off the ground.

Axel nodded a few times and really thought about Cam’s statement. The centurion didn’t leave camp often, and if he did, it was only to New Rome to clear his head. Having to keep track of two cohorts was no easy feat on your own, especially when trying to keep up with training on top of it. It was hard not letting himself fall behind in the fighting aspect, as it took away from the dwindling energy he had on top of it. “I can understand how the work really gets to you, that’s for sure,” Axel remarked. He smirked back, understanding where Cam was coming from.
A quizzical look emerged on Axel’s face, not entirely sure what Cam meant by ‘doing what he needed to do’, but he assumed the other demigod wanted to keep that to himself, as he quickly changed the subject. It wasn’t really any of Axel’s business what Cam and Vega did on their trip, certainly that’s why they had gone away together and not with others. Axel nodded enthusiastically at Cam’s suggestion to catch a football game sometime. The boy had grown up watching the 49ers with his brother, and then going outside on the beach to play their rough version of tackle football with the occasional lax game of catch. “I’d love that, honestly. I seriously need a break...” Axel trailed off, thinking about all the work he had to cram in to come to the cafe with Cam.
But he shook his head. “I just don’t know if the legion can hold it down while I’m gone. With no centurion for the third and fourth cohort in camp, I don’t know man. Maybe on a weekend, I guess.” Axel shrugged at the thought. Eh, he could try to charm a praetor or something to take over his duties for the day. His charm speak was becoming stronger as the months rolled by and he practiced on anyone whom he didn’t associate himself with often. The power of words were almost as powerful as any celestial bronze.

It had been about a week since Axel had toured Astrid around camp, initiating her to the ways of Camp Jupiter. It had also been a week since they planned their first date. It all happened kind of fast, but the two just seemed to click instantly, so why not see where it went? They had agreed to begin their day long event with Axel teaching Astrid how to fight with his long daggers, a skill that Axel excelled in, as well as sword fighting. They tried both to see which Astrid preferred, and to give her some skill in both types of weapons. The more weapons you could fight with as a legionnaire, the better of you were. They met in the Field of Mars, a more private place than the arena. Being the weekend, the other legionnaires we’re enjoying their day off elsewhere, as there was no one else around them throughout their training session. Exhausted and sweating hard, Axel threw both of his daggers into the ground then pulling his shirt over head head, throwing the drenched muscle tank down next to them. He ran his fingers through his hair, pushing back the stray strand so he could look up at Astrid. “Alright I’m calling it. That was good, you’re a natural fighter.” Smiling, he stretched his arm behind his head pulling on his elbow with his opposite hand, making sure to flex for the girl’s viewing pleasure. As Axel continued stretching, he asked, “So which weapon did you like more?” The boy moved to the ground to stretch out his legs. It was all personal preference. What weight felt better in the hands of the user, the length of the blade, what distance was preferred to fight at. The sword was about a foot and a half longer than his daggers, which were only about a foot long. Axel could go either way, but he liked fighting with two blades at once, so if one was hit away, he could use a fist too. He really hoped Astrid had fun, Axel always enjoyed a good spar and teaching her how to defend herself was very rewarding. Hopefully in battle he wouldn’t have to worry about the younger demigod too much. Astrid Hawke

What Axel did in that moment was probably the single most stupid thing he could have done. Although, he couldn’t think of anything else on the spot what would gain at least a little trust from Jen, now that she had some leverage on her centurion. If she went down now, he would fall with her. Hard. Guess some things were just worth the sacrifice, or at least he hoped so. Honestly, Axel was surprised the boozy girl hadn’t sniffed out his stash, it being so close in vicinity to her own.
Upon walking back to Jen, he could tell he still had not quite convinced her. Shrugging, he sighed, “I don’t know what else to do to get you to trust me, literally no one knows about this.” Axel gestured to his bottle. There was an innocent look in his eyes. Even his friend Aubin didn’t know Axel kept his own personal stash in camp. The demigod didn’t even know quite sure what prompted him to put everything on the line for this girl. Something was just intriguing about Jen that he felt the need to explore.
Smirking, Axel nodded. “Good. My lips are sealed.” The centurion turned and nodded his head back to their barracks. Zipping up his jacket to hide his treasure, he replied to Jen. “Your’s, can’t have my room smelling like booze. Never know when I’ll get a surprise visit by someone important.” Axel had no idea how this venture would end, but with the amount of alcohol the two had together, it would definitely end in a heavily drunken state.

Axel raised his eyebrows at Astrid’s comment. “Long way from home, man. But anywhere without the ocean… I don’t know how you guys do it.” The boy chuckled at her calling him an ass, followed by dork. She wasn’t wrong. He just shook his head, letting the girl win the argument, even though they were just joking. “Alright, alright.” Axel had no idea where he’d start if his idea failed, but at least it would get him a good meal out of it.
It was good that Astrid was eager to learn. Those kind of people made for the best students. He thought for a moment, trying to determine what weapon what would be best for the hockey-playing legionnaire. Daggers could be hard to master, and a sword was always a good start. “We’ll just have to find you a weapon you’re comfortable with. Plus it’s always good to know how to throw a punch or two in a pinch.” Axel’s close combat skills definitely came in handy in most situations, inside and outside of camp. Axel shrugged. Getting to the baths would only ruin him sneaking around, but he supposed weekends would have to do. The boy swatted a hand in the air and shook his head. “They’re easy, just time consuming.”
Honestly, Axel wouldn’t have been surprised if the other demigod left a nasty bruise on his hand. Just to get to camp, each legionnaire had to be strong to get through Lupa’s training, and there would be no exception with Astrid. As the girl sat down, Axel sat down next to her, but far enough to give the medic enough space to work. The boy couldn’t help but to smile a bit when Astrid actually took his hand. His smile didn’t last long, however, as the the blonde began gripping his hand with all her strength. Clenching his teeth as well, he let out a gasp. “Alright, it’s over, you’re all set.” He just sat there on the cot, letting Astrid recover for a few minutes from the initial pain. The boy made sure to take some anti-inflammation pills from the medic for Astrid.
Loosening his grip on Astrid’s hand, now holding it delicately, Axel slowly helped her stand. He wrapped his arm around her waist in case the girl lost her balance or became dizzy as he walked with her out of sickbay and slowly back to her barracks, where she could sleep the pain off.

Axel nodded, it all made sense now. “Ah, so basically bum-fuck nowhere, got it,” he joked. Ideas were formulating in his head to possibly one day treat Astrid to the ultimate beach day. He’d need to get her surf gear to start, towels, umbrella, cold drinks… But that was for another time. The boy came back into focus just as Astrid chastised his lack of knowledge about camp. “Yeah, well… I don’t know how to cook for shit so why would I know about the plants here?” Axel retorted, struggling to come up with his response. Shooting a smug look at Astrid at her compliment, he seemed to say 'See, I’m good for something.’ He shrugged. “I’m sure you’ll figure it out.”
Smiling at Astrid’s reaction, she the concept dead on. Of course Axel would be excited about the fights, when he was in the fighting mood, the kid was unstoppable. “You’ll understand more when you learn how to fight, it’s a rush, probably just like the kind you get from hockey.” Most legionnaires had the fighting spirt in them, and if Astrid was already an athlete, Axel assumed she would be the same way. Plus, the boy wanted to be excited for Astrid, this seemed to be something that meant a great deal to her.
Brushing off Astrid’s comment like it was nothing, he replied, “Oh no, we do. During the week it’s midnight, but the weekend doesn’t matter.’’ He should really be enforcing the rules with the new girl around. Eh, but she was different… “Depends on the activity. Sometimes you’ll get paired up with someone, go at it alone, or they’ll need the whole cohort to do a task. Don’t worry about it.” Axel liked the fact that the legion usually changed up the tasks everyday/week, otherwise they would all be terribly bored.
Axel took a deep breath when they reached sick bay and looked down at Astrid with a supportive smile. He massaged the girl’s shoulders as if to hype her up before a sporting event, enthusiastically saying, “You got this, it won’t be that bad. Plus, you can squeeze my hand as hard as you can.” Axel leaned around her shoulder so she could see his cheesy smile. Leading her into sick bay, he promptly announced himself. “Hey medics, can we get someone to do a brand for a Victoria kid over here?” The demigod wanted to make this process as quick and smooth as possible. A medic quickly came over to the pair, tools in hand. They motioned for Astrid to sit down on a cot, and began to prepare their things to give the blonde her brand.

Shocked at Astrid’s reveal that she had never been to the ocean, Axel’s jaw completely dropped. “WHAT?! Holy shit, we’re gonna have to make this a full on beach day! I can’t believe you’ve never seen the ocean, there’s no place I’d rather be…” The boy trailed off, thinking of the waves crashing on the shore, the seagulls cries, the sweet smell of salt water. He shook his head completely in shock. The demigod loved the ocean so much, he wouldn’t be surprised if he was a legacy of Neptune or something of the sorts. Of course he wasn’t, but his mother was born from the sea.
Axel scrunched up his face. “Pfttt, if I know. I’m no Ceres kid.” Realizing Astrid probably wouldn’t know who she was, he noted, “Ceres is the goddess of plants and growth and that kinda stuff.” The boy shrugged, honestly having no idea what to tell the eager girl.“Maybe you could ask a wind spirit at the mess? There’s probably some kind of store in New Rome, the only things I usually buy there though are clothes and restaurant food.” He really hadn’t noticed anything else, though he supposed if they wandered around enough they would find something of the sorts. Maybe he'd ask his sister to suggest a couple of places since she lived there after all.
Axel chuckled and rubbed his hands together mischievously. “Then it’s definitely something I’m looking forward to.” Plus, he figured the extra adrenaline rush would help him out if he were to meet Astrid’s dad. His natural confidence could only carry him so far. Oh well, he’d worry about that later.
His side smile remained at Astrid’s comment. “Perfect…” He made the note about the late bathing in his head. No one would have to know about that. Oh, he was terrible. Here was a centurion suggesting for them to break the rules… multiple times. The curfew during the week was midnight, and of course guys and girls were forbidden to bath together. Oh well, he wasn’t your run of the mill centurion. He liked it better that way anyway. Nodding, Axel explained as he started to lead Astrid back to sick bay, taking a back route so she wouldn’t realize where they were going. “Yeah, your cohort gets a specific schedule every week. You’ll figure out how to organize your time.”

Axel chuckled, satisfied with Evie’s reaction to his surprise. He hardly knew the girl, but he was sure they had seen each other around camp before, so it couldn’t be that weird, right? Cocking a brow as the girl hugged herself, Axel was thoroughly confused now. Was this a good thing? He guessed by the way Evie carried herself, she was just kinda weird. But the good weird, the kind people usually were around close friends. Axel admired her ability to just be herself around anyone though. “Yeah with you, girl. Everyone needs to go on an adventure once and a while.” He paused, “and no one seems to have an appreciation for that around here, except for you.” Being the natural flirt he was, Axel just couldn’t help himself.
Axel was received when Evie regained her composure, feeling a bit awkward as she hugged herself to what he assumed to be good news he had given her. At the girl’s comment about getting dirty, Axel was yet again taken aback. Giving her a confused smile, not exactly sure what she meant by the remark, he replied, “I’m down for anything.” Judging by the blush that spread on Evie’s face, she hadn’t meant it in a sexual nature. Nodding, Axel gestured to the path ahead. “Alright, lead the way!” Laughing at the girl’s excitement, he was curious as to what she had in mind of doing.

Alright, so maybe showing off his backflip was a little much. He’d worked hard on learning the skill, so he figured why not use it when he could. Chuckling at Jen’s shout, Axel retorted, “Giving you a heart attack wouldn’t do me any good, would it?” At least it was effective in preventing Jen from escaping the alley way. But Axel had the girl right where he wanted her.
The girl gave Axel a look he didn’t blame her for. The two hadn’t particularly interacted that much even though they had been in the same cohort for a while. It didn’t come as a surprise to the centurion that he hadn’t earned trust yet, and he should have held back on asking her to share a drink. Axel just shook his head when Jen suggested he rattled his noggin around. He guessed he’d just have to get on her level and reveal what he was hiding. Breaking his gaze with Jen, he looked around the alley, trying to remember which brick he hid his treasure behind. Smirking, Axel walked over to the side of the alley and pulled a loosened brick just as Jen had done. One had to get creative too when their job was at risk. Walking back to Jen with part of his stash sticking out of his jacket he cocked a brow with a slight smile, “Well I’m off for the day, and like I said, I could use a drink. Come on, we’ll keep each other company.” He motioned back towards the barracks where it was warmer and he could start a fire.

Still smiling wide, Axel nodded enthusiastically. “Sounds like a good deal to me.” The boy missed the LA beaches. From living practically right on the beach to now living in a camp/city setting had been a big adjustment to Axel at first. The ocean was his home, and he’d always be down to return to it, even if it was just for a day. Axel also had to get creative in his methods to getting a tan. Usually it consisted of laying out a towel in some obscure place around the Little Tiber where no one could judge him for keeping up his tan.
Axel laughed at the blonde’s joke, thinking about how far they had come in just a few short hours. It’s like they’d known each other for much longer than that. They’d come up with multiple plans for the future, and he even smoothy asked her out on a date. And before the first one, Astrid had proposed a second date. Axel knew he was good, but not that good. It was a confidence booster nonetheless. Sure, the girl talked a lot, but so did he, so it seemed to work. He’d have no problem just talking to the girl all day. Axel shook his head and rolled his eyes as Astrid went on about her cookware. The boy was a terrible cook and didn’t know his way around the kitchen to save his life. Guess he’d gotten lucky with this one.
Axel made a mental note to look into hockey more when he got the chance. He knew the basics of the game, but clearly nothing compared to Astrid who had been around it for her entire life. “Nah, I’ve never been to one before, I think that’d be fun, actually,” he nodded. It had been forever since Axel had really gotten out of camp, being tied up with centurion duties. He just hoped he would be able to get out more now that he had a reason to.
Chuckling at Astrid’s retort, a grin appeared on Axel’s face. Yeah, but the girl definitely has balls, the boy said in his head. He didn’t want to say that aloud, wanting to keep the girl’s ego in check. At Astrid’s question about the baths, Axel narrowed his eyes at her and gave her a mischievous side smile. “Guess you’ll just have to wait and see.” Oh how his mother would be so proud of him right now. Emerging from his thoughts, Axel started to lead the other demigod out of the steamy bath area. They walked off the path around camp and up a small hill to reveal a field just about as far as the eye could see. When it wasn’t filled with fighting demigods and monsters, the Field of Mars was actually quite peaceful. “And this here is the Field of Mars. Everything happens here. All the way from parties to formation drills, to battles.”

Axel knew his presence at the party was bound to put some people on edge, but this wasn’t his first day at the rodeo. He’d partied in camp before, maybe just not with this much of an audience, for what he could tell. Even to go as far as being friends with his cohort’s drunk was going some for the centurion. At least Axel had some influence over Aubin when things got out of hand during the week. Axel playfully batted the back of Aubin’s head for insulting his efforts to look good and shook his head with a smile.
Not taking his slightly intoxicated eyes off of Astrid, he eyed her up and down as she came over to the group, obeying Flynn’s request to hit her joint. Axel cringed as she tried to smoke. Although, he couldn’t say much because he didn’t like smoking either, and stopped after trying it once. He preferred drinking, and he didn’t like the aftermath of being crossfaded anyway. He waited for Astrid to stop coughing to say, “Hey Princess, fancy seeing you here. Getting used to camp in the best way possible, I see.” Grinning, he offered the pretty blonde a beer instead. “Here, you’ll like this better.”
The boy felt a nudge, and turned to Aubin. Axel followed the other demigod's gaze, leading it to another blond girl hanging out in the corner of the room. He smirked to his friend, and asked in a hushed tone only so he could hear, "What, do you want me to go over there and talk you up or something?" He knew that look in Aubin's eyes. It was when he wanted to know something. "She looks like she needs to loosen up," he observed, nodding in Anya's direction and speaking to the group again.
Bringing his bottle up to his lips, Axel raised an eyebrow at Jen. Didn’t she know by now that he was the cool centurion, or ‘fuzz’ as she put it. He guessed the rebellious girl was just slow to trust, especially with something that he was supposed to be against. Before Axel had the chance to defend himself, Aubin did so for him. Smirking, the centurion reached across the group and tapped his bottle to Jen's in cheers. “You’re welcome, pal.”

Axel shouldn’t have been as surprised, or maybe even as exited as he was about Astrid knowing how to snowboard. “No way, I’ve always wanted to snowboard! I feel like its kinda similar to surfing and skateboarding.” Smiling, he enjoyed having something in common with Astrid. Or really just anyone. Some people seemed to overlook that Axel was just a normal guy, not some centurion with a stick up his ass. In his opinion, he was the most “fun” out of them all. Axel laughed and shook his head at Astrid’s remark about her father forbidding her to skateboard. “If he thinks that then I can’t imagine what he would think of this place.” Referring to Camp Jupiter, it was true, you were definitely more likely to die here than riding a skateboard.
Axel let out a sigh of relief when Astrid didn’t take offense to his comment. Maybe that was partially because she didn’t have much experience talking to guys. Either way, he wanted to make up for his mistake. “None of them were worth sticking with, so you probably already have.” Smiling, he genuinely meant that. Maybe he was more suited to be seeing someone more like her. Most of the models were just hookups anyway. “We can always go out and get things in New Rome beforehand,” Axel then caught the last part of her comment. “You brought cooking supplies to the Wolf House? Weirdo…” He smirked, shaking his head. That was something he hadn’t heard of until now.
Him meeting Astrids dad?! Axel had never met any of the parents of the girl’s he’d been with in the past, so what was he supposed to say to this teenager’s father who would never let his daughter be with a boy? ”Hi I’m Axel and I go to the same war camp as your daughter and I taught her how to fight with knives and let her skateboard. But don’t worry, my mother’s the Goddess of Love.” He got goosebumps just thinking about it. Axel didn’t want to disappoint Astrid, however, so he went a long with it. “Yeah that’d be sick, whatever he’s cool with.”
Axel didn’t miss Astrid’s eye roll as he finished his pizza. He laughed as the girl let out a belch, and matched her’s with a louder one of his own, hopefully making her feel less embarrassed. He stuck his tongue out at her as to say ’Ha, beat you.’ Leading the other demigod into the bathing area, he began to point things out. “There’s both a girl’s and guy’s changing area and separate baths as well.” He chuckled, “but if it’s really early in the morning or really late at night, the wall dividing the two is easy enough to climb over.” He added a wink, unable to help himself from trying to make her uncomfortable, or even test if her “sarcasm” before was actually that. Axel just barely picked up Astrid rubbing at her right arm, in just about the spot where she would soon get her brand. Reluctantly, he didn’t make a comment on it, deciding to help her calm her nerves when the time actually came.
