Birthday Miracles (open)

[Harper Jones]

Harper just couldn’t believe it as she sat on her bed. She just got a phone call from her mother earlier and she was still digesting the news. It was impossible, wasn’t it? What just happened to her father was impossible. She glanced down at the letter in her hand that she found on her dresser when she returned from that phone call. She very slowly opened the letter and read the contents inside.

Dearest Harper,

I know this seems a bit out of the blue that you’re hearing from me. I heard about your father and I was torn by the news. I was able to pull some strings with Apollo and Hypnos as you might have heard. Yes, my darling, your father is now awake.

Consider it as my apology for treating you horribly during your birthday three years ago. I realize my mistake now and I know that there’s no way I could go back to change it. But I hope you’ll be able to forgive me. I completely understand if you don’t want to. The choice is up to you.

Uriel had to pull the "Harper owes me something" Card for her siblings to let him in. He actually had a gift for her, if it was her birthday like, when their anger was at it's prime, he would've brought her a black mamba as a gift. But he figured that he needed to be nice to her. Uriel sneaked into her room and jumped through the door in a dive, Uriel landed next to her and he placed a gift box in front of her "Happy Birthday." He spoke in a joyful manner.

Harper looked up from her letter with a jump. She quickly wiped away the tears as she saw it was Uriel in the room. Yeah, she had been crying, but they were more tears of happiness more than anything. He's awake... And she was a little bit surprised that Uriel had a present for her. To be honest, Harper forgot it was her birthday until she read her letter.

"Thanks," she mumbled to Uriel's happy birthday as she wiped the final tear off her face. She nodded her head towards the box. "What's that?" she asked him, a little suspicious of what he got her.

Uriel laughed and said "Don't worry, I won't kill you right no..maybe next week but not today." Uriel opened the gift and it contained a small bronze pearl. Uriel pressed his hand and basically crushed the pearl turned to a sword handle, and it's blade was glowing bronze, it was huge. it had razor things across the blade and it had Harper's name in cursive, Uriel handed her the sword and said "It's a saber I asked them to build."

Harper's eyes widened as she looked at the sword Uriel presented her. She gingerly took it in her hands. It looked like it was heavy, but it wasn't. She looked at the sword while she traced the intricate designs on the handle. Then she looked up at him and frowned. "Why are you being so nice to me?" she asked. There was no reason for him to be nice, especially with all their history.

Uriel shrugged and said "I woke up on he right side of the bed, and it's your birthday so i figured that I needed to be nice." Uriel grabbed the gift box and said "There's another gift for you here.." Uriel took the bottom of the box off and then, a plastic bag fell. and it was full off.....

Uriel blushed and said "Y'know, I figured if you're going to ...sleep around then you'd need those so you won't experience what your little sister did, how is she anyways?"

Harper rolled her eyes and grabbed the bag as she stuffed it under her bed. "Aren't you being a concerned friend." She sighed as she looked up at Uriel and shrugged. "She's doing okay, I guess. I haven't really seen her around. I suppose she's hanging out with the nargels or whatever. Why?" She raised an eyebrow at him. "Why do you care about her? Don't you have a new girlfriend or something?"

Rayne wasnt sure what it was. He had three ideas though, Either Zeus' were highly respected which was the one he figured was the least likely. There was also the chance that they let him in because they feared Children of Zeus, or they had heard the rumor about him being dead and feared him. It would make sense since they lived in the same cabin with Harper, but he had given up on the idea that she told them to let him in since he hadnt said he was coming. It was possible she did but it didnt matter either way. He was unsure what to get her since this wasnt sparta and people werent as excited with weapons as gifts so he picked up what he thought would be good.

He had heard she liked country music and was unsure what kind so he just bought a bunch of random cd's and a cake. Apparently it was tradition to eat sugared bread on the passing day that you were born. Still as they had tradition as did he so he got a weapon anyways. A small chain with a jewel on the end of it to hang on a belt loop or something. He always had one in case he was tied up. It allowed him to cut the ropes that would hold him. The spartan pushed aside the Demeter standing watch at the door and walked in. Holding two boxes in his hands he stepped up to her bed without saying anything and put down the one with the cake in it and nodding to the birthday girl.

Uriel shrugged at her and said "Well, yeah I do but I can't just forget her. I was her first and probably only, I don't want to make her feel like I abandoned her. I mean, I think we are still friends..." Uriel was cut of when the guy arrived. Uriel shrugged at him, he had an aura about him. Like as if he was dead but not, not the zombie aura cause those things just suck. Uriel turned to him and said "You were dead before, no?"

Achilles raised an eyebrow at the two guys in the cabin. He didn't say anything to them as he tossed the wrapped present to his sister. "Here you go. Happy Birthday." It was a little exercise ball for Pip. The son of Demeter smiled at Harper, ignoring Uriel and Rayne.

Harper did everything in her power not to gag at Uriel. She really didn't care to hear about the state of her sister's virginity. She figured it was gone after that little scare everyone went through a few months back. She just rolled her eyes and set her letter on her nightstand again.

Then Rayne entered the room and Harper couldn't help but have her face light up. She smiled at him as he walked into the room and sat down next to her. "For me?" she asked as she took the boxes out of his hands. "You're so sweet." She would've kissed him on the cheek, but not in front of everybody. Maybe later.

And then she almost got hit in the head with Achilles's present. "Thanks," she said as she caught the present just in time. No headache for her. Then she glanced between Achilles's and Rayne's presents and looked up at both of them. "Which ones should I open first?" she asked, not sure what to do or if she should wait for more people.

Rayne's eyes widened slightly at Uriel as he spoke. how did he- Then Harper asked which one she should open first and he was suddenly filled with eagerness. He turned his head trying to hide it and pointed a thumb at himself. "Mine." He said rather quickly and nodded a little too much. The son of Zeus smiled widely casting a look over at Achilles and shrunk his smile. He was still expecting to get hit by that guy. Heck he was even planning to let him hit him at least once without Rayne trying to do anything for revenge. His attention turned back to the birthday girl and his smile grew again. Something was different about her but he couldnt put his finger on it. He tilted his head seeing the small amount of puffiness at her eyes.

Was she crying? Why?

Harper smiled at Rayne as she set Achilles's present to the side. She opened the first box to find a beautifully decorated cake. She looked up at Rayne and smiled at him. She set the box on the nightstand right next to the letter as she opened the second one. CDs of country artists. Taylor Swift. Kellie Pickler. The Band Perry. The JaneDear Girls. All good bands that she hadn't had the chance to get her hands on. She looked up at Rayne once more as she leaned in to hug him. "Thanks," she said as she quickly and barely pecked him on the cheek. Then she looked over at her brother and smiled. "So your present next?"

Achilles smiled and nodded. "Yeah, it's more for Pip though. I would have gotten you more, but I'm kinda short on funds." He leaned back against the door frame to her room. "I apparently have an inheritance waiting for me back in Oregon......but I would have to move back into my dad's house." The swordsman shrugged as he waited for his sister to open her present. He still wasn't certain if he wanted to go back there.

Harper smiled at her brother as she picked up his present and set it on her lap. She slowly unwrapped it to reveal an exercise ball for Pip. She smiled widely as she looked up at Achilles. "Thank you!" she squealed as she got up and walked over to the cage. She pulled the small mouse out of the cage and set him in the ball. Then she gently set it on the mouse and the mouse scattered as he explored the room. She giggled as she watched him run off. She loved that little mouse more than anything else.
