Seeing how much Rhys was trying to convice her it was all okay, Ariel decided to drop the issue, she thinking she may have a word to Rayne about raging on random kids later. Shrugging she turned back to the 'path' they were continueing along. "Well, he's probably the one you want teaching you combat skills ..." She said with a smile in the boys direction. "But I could always help if you wanted."
They were getting closer to the edge of the forest, checking her watch Ariel noted that the harpies would begin searching for campers soon. She relayed that to Rhys and quickened her pace, the last thing Ariel wanted right now was for either of them to be found by the Harpies.

Rhys stepped over a fallen log, hurrying after her. He didn't desire it either, so he was going to be damn sure to keep up. He almost stumbled at the next root, but he caught himself against the nearby tree that it belonged to.
"So, about you helping me. How... well.... What weapon do you specialize in?" He queried curiously. "I'm told I'd apparently be more inclined to the bow, being Apollo and all, however I've never really shot one before." Rhys admitted a moment later, scratching the back of his neck sheepishly. He felt immensely stupid.

Ariel turned around a second late to try and catch him when she heard Rhys stumble. Seeing him catch himself on a tree she smiled at him. "Well, I use twin daggers." She said swapping so her book and her torch were in the same hand. Twisting a charm on her bracelet, it melted into a 30cm bronze dagger with a shell design where the blade met the hilt. "See, I throw them and I can fight hand to hand." She said with a smile before pressing the shell and having it melt back into a bracelet again.
Switching her book back to her other hand she turned around, before smiling over her shoulder at Rhys again. "So I can always show you how to use daggers. You would probably be better at throwing them. I'm sure once we get a bow in your hands it'll feel natural. That's how it was for me." Ariel said with a shrug. "When you find the right weapon... You just know." She stepped over a log, seeing light in the distance.
Stopping for a second to listen out if the Harpies were on the move, hearing nothing but the chirping of crickets, the quiet growling of monsters and a howl from somewhere far off. Ariel picked up the pace again just in case.

He stared outright as the magic ran its course. His breath hitched. There was no way that could be scientifically possible, but then again, there was no way for it to be scientifically proven that these cursed gods –deities- whatever you wanted to call thems, existed. He only barely heard her as she explained, and a moment later, they changed shape again. Rhys had to tear his eyes away, exhaling slowly to return his heart back to normal. It felt like this place would never seem normal to him.
“Thanks… I think. Its still… Very, very different. We’ll need to try later.” He tried to amend in case he’d offended the girl with his abrupt silence. Were he to survive this camp, Rhys knew that he’d need friends, and those would be hard to come by if everybody was like Rayne, or any of those Ares and Hermes kids he’d seen. He didn’t wish to associate time with them yet.
Then she seemed to go silent and he nearly started to frown before she set off quicker. He moved to match her pace. Ariel didn’t seem angry to him, however maybe that was just his fault; a mistaken read of her emotions. He hadn’t known her long enough to really determine which.

Ariel could understand Rhys's hesitance. Jumping straight into the world of demigodishness and all that can be hard. Seeing something like a dagger grow out of a bracelet and then melt back into it again could be frightening stuff. Realizing a little late that it being dark probably didn't make it easier to accept it. Also, showing him a knife in the dark was probably not the way to show she was, in fact, sane. Ariel mentally facepalmed because of her rookie mistake before turning to smile over her shoulder at him.
They were getting close to the edge of the forest. The trees started being more spread out and light was filtering through from the cabins and mess hall. Breathing a sigh of relief she slowed her pace to allow Rhys to catch up and walk beside her. Ariel looked over at the boy smiling because they'd made it back in one piece. "Where are you heading? I'm going to my cabin if you wanna walk up there with me."

Rhys’ heartbeat slowed dramatically, the adrenaline within him dissipating as they finally emerged into the soft light of camp… and as the shock of the changing daggers wore off. The boy cleared his throat, blue eyes thoughtful “I… ah, well, I suppose I was planning on going to Apollo cabin, but I could walk with you… If that’s alright.” Gah, she had offered. Didn’t that mean she already thought it was already? He mentally kicked himself, hurrying to correct the error. “I mean, yes, I’ll walk with you.” He felt flustered. Damn him to feel that way in front of a girl – and a pretty one at that, now that he could see clearly – she’d think he were wimpy. He scuffed his foot, eyes averting for the moment, suddenly becoming very interested in the clot he’d just turned up out of the ground.

Ariel clicked her torch off and tucked it in the back pocket of her jeans before turning to look back at Rhys. Chuckling softly at him fumbling for words. Following his eyes down to his foot, she looked up his face before down at his foot again. Shrugging to herself, Ariel looked back up at his face and smiled, thinking that it was kinda cute that he didn't know what to say. Tapping his shoulder gently before grinning at him to make him feel a little more comfortable, "Well... Come on." She said turning towards the cabins and taking a couple of steps before making sure that he was in fact following.

Rhys glanced at her face again, nodding to himself, and once she turned to walk, he immediately moved after her, almost like a loyal puppy. Well, exactly like a loyal puppy. Rhys didn’t really know where to go to kill time, since he only wanted to go back to the cabin after his sisters were asleep. “So… What novel were you reading?” He nodded to the volume tucked beneath her arm. “Or were you writing something instead? He queried curiously, though he hoped she didn’t think he was being nosey. “I personally like reading things with artwork in them, or novels with new techniques… Though fiction isn’t bad either.” He stuffed his hands into his pockets after adjusting his jacket.

Ariel looked down at the novel still in her hand before smiling back up at his face and smiled. Lifting it up to show the cover of a golden bird in a ring with an arrow. "The Hunger Games" She said with a smile, raising an eyebrow at him, "Have you read it?"
When he said that he liked books with pictures in them, Ariel couldn't help but think he liked children's picture books. It took him saying something about techniques for her to realise that he was talking about art books. She looked at him quizically, "You're into art?" A smile spread slowly across her face as she put her other hand in her jean pocket.

“I have not…” He admitted after a moment’s hesitation. “However… I have heard of the name before. Is it… a good read?” Rhys thought the words carefully, making sure to enunciate them in English carefully. He didn’t want to accidentally revert back to Welsh as he had with Rayne. It made things… awkward.
A smile spread over his face, meeting his eyes as he flashed the dimple to the right side of his mouth. “Into art? Yes… quite a lot actually. I like to draw, though painting interests me as well. Especially of the ocean… That is something I miss from Aber. Do you have an interest in art?” He queried in response, head tipping cutely to the side.

Ariel couldn't help her smile grow as she watched him talk about his interest in art. She thought back to when she'd done art at school. It hadn't gone well, Ariel loved playing with coloured paints and attempting to paint something that looked pretty, but she... to put it nicely, sucked at art. "I like art, but I'm terrible at it." She said with a chuckle.
"How long have you been drawing for?" Ariel asked, copying his move of turning her head cutely on the side, not even trying to conceal to her smile as she looked back at him.

Rhys rolled his eyes. “Anybody could be good… Its all in practice or at least, the vast majority of it is…” He gave another bright smile. “Just look to the fun in it as you get started, it helps a lot. Perhaps I could teach you some.” He stretched his arms back behind his head, popping his neck as he paced after her.
With her next question, Rhys seemed to think for a moment. “I’ve been drawing since I could properly hold a pencil, maybe even more before then.” He chuckled. “Those would’ve been scribbles though. Not true art."

"Anybody can not be good!" The daughter of Poseidon laughed, thinking of all the drawings and paintings she'd done at school which had never managed to look like anything more than scribles and blotches of paint. "You can try, maybe then you'll believe me about my lack of skill." She said cheekily, sure that no matter howmany lessons Rhys gave her, he wouldn't uncover any kind of talent.
Ariel smiled when he said he'd been drawing since he could hold a pencil. "I'm sure they'll be worth something someday." She shrugged her shoulders, still feeling mischievous.

“Lies.” He snorted his own laughter. For the first time that day, he actually felt happy. “And I won’t believe it unless I see it. You have to have something there.” Rhys smiled, pacing along parallel to her, a few feet off. “And as far as them being worth anything, back in Aber I sold to tourists on occasion. It was nice to have a bit of pocket money, y’know?” He offered a smile, though he didn’t miss the mischievous note in her voice. It was making him begin to feel the same way, which was another small happiness for him.

"Is not!" Ariel laughed at the suggestion that she was lying about her artistic abilities. "Fine, I will prove it. Name the time and place and you can teach me how to draw." She challenged with a smile. She was actually having fun. Not something she expected to be having when walking back from the forest at night with a boy she'd only just met. Ariel turned her head towards him again when he said he sold his pictures to tourists back home. "So you're that good, huh? Maybe I'll be getting lessons off the right person." She said with a smile at the idea of spending more time with Rhys, even if it was doing something she was horrible at.
