Kurtis Blinked, his body covered in sweat and and adrenaline in his veins. He slowly got up, his eyes wild and checking every dark corner for anything and everything. He was scared, and the rush was still high in his blood stream. Luckily, he was a calm wake-r from nightmares, as he had someone sleeping next to him.
The lancaster looked at the girl next to him, giving a pale smile before tossing the covered off his body, lightly slipping out and making sure none of the cold of the night slipped under the covered, stumbling in the dark to the bathroom, finding the door after a while. Her cabin was different from his. He grabbed the knob, quietly opening it and then closing it behind him, turning the light on.
The first thing he saw the the large mirror, but it was someone else's reflection looking right back at him. It happened when he had his nightmares. It was one of the few times that his appearance actually looked bad and horrible. His hair was shaggy, his lips pale, his skin clammy and reflecting the light. His mother's blessing in reverse. When these nightmares, it reversed his own blessing to turn his appearance bad.
Kurtis turned the water on, splashing is face with it and clearing his head, feeling a chill. "I wish I had pants on," He said, smirking as he shivered in the winter chill, his boxers clinging to his rear from the sweat. The water dripped down his body, making him colder still. "I've got to get over this someday," he said, smiling as he looked at his body, seeing a little color returning to his skin. It always reversed slowly. Still, when he closed his eyes, he could still see the blade coming at his face, that chill and fear.

Jessi groaned as her pillow and space heater left the bed. It was cold in her cabin, despite she had the heat on. Once he vacated his side of her bed, she rolled into his warm spot as she tried to keep warm. However, her mind was far from the coldness of her cabin. She was in the hall closet back in Seattle, cowering in a corner. It wasn't long until she heard the screams of the harpies and her parents.
She jolted awake in a cold sweat. She closed her eyes and took deep breathes trying to calm herself down. It wasn't long before she noticed that Kurtis wasn't in bed with her and she opened her eyes. She squinted a bit to notice the light coming from the bathroom. She reluctantly crawled out of bed as she made her way to the bathroom. She leaned against the door frame as she crossed her arms. "Wow," she commented, "you actually can be ugly."

Kurtis nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard Jessi say something. He turned, surprised she was awake. She looked...well, not as bad as him, but in the same ball park. He couldn't help but smirk, some color coming back to his face as he countered," Sorry. You caught me with out my mascara and eye liner on." He chuckled at that though, his hair seeming to gain some more color and life. A fraction of what it was, but you could see it. Kurtis couldn't really control it, it just did.
"Yeah. Sorry. It only happened when bad memories invade my dreams," He said, leaning back over to sink, cupping some water and splashing his face again, as if trying to rub the pale away. It wasn't working, but it made him feel better.
"What are you doing up though? I thought I was pretty quiet about it." He wasn't smirking at that, looking up through the mirror at Jessi. Even in the middle of the night of their back together sex, she had that wild tigress feel and look to her. He smirked, wondering for a moment with his hormones before pushing that out of his mind. Not the time. She woke up for a reason. He hadn't woken a girl up while slipping out of a bed for a while(I know how it sounds, deal with it). "Don't tell me we both had a nightmare?" He asked, smiling at the irony, turning and looking at her fully, not letting his eyes look into her's. He had a way of looking right below a person's eyes while giving an impression of looking at them. It didn't let him use his powers though, and that was important.

"Mascara and eyeliner?" Jessi smirked as she pushed herself off the door frame and walked towards her boyfriend. "I knew that you were good looking, not a possible cross dresser." She stopped to lean up against the counter as he washed his face. She put her hands back on the cool stone as she watched Kurtis. "So a nightmare?" she asked before she hopped onto the counter so her legs dangled off. She was only wearing his shirt, so she wasn't leaving a lot to the imagination.
"You were pretty quiet," she said with a bit of a smirk before she reached out to prod his thigh with her leg. "You left and so did my pillow and my space heater... plus people were screaming in my dreams." She shrugged a bit as she kept the expression on her face neutral. "So yeah... I guess we both had bad dreams."

Kurtis almost laughed at the cross dressing comment, but just said," Drat. You found my secret out. Even after all we did last night!" he did a fake dramitic pause, smiling even as water was dripping down his chest again. He lowered his arms as she started to rub his leg, stepping forward to where he was between her knees, his hands at her hips and his right thumb making small circles on her skin. He liked the feeling.
"Yeah. It's just an old memory though," He said, still looking right below her eyes. "From before I came to camp." There were two memories that made him freak out from before camp life. That was one of them.
"Glad to see I was such an important feature to your sleeping babe," he countered, the subject light again as he leaned in and kissed on lightly. Still, the screaming was kind of different. "Screaming?" he asked as he pulled away, giving her a confused look. He was confused on that one. Nightmares were other people are screaming?
"I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours," He said, offering a way out that would cost neither of them pride. He shivered though, the water sapping the warmth from his body. "Under your covers though," he said, his hands stopping their motion as he took a step, his right hand staying up to offer to her, using his left foot to open the door. Thank gods she was an only child. He would never get away with this in his cabin. Hell, they might have taped him, or tried to steal his girl friend. If he wasn't with Jessi, he knew he would of.

As soon as Kurtis stepped between her legs, Jessi bit her lower lip as she lazily draped her arms around his shoulders. She played with him as she looked at him and studied the features of his face. The color in his face was returning so he no longer looked like that ghost she saw only a couple of minutes ago.
She avoided his eyes when he looked at her, but she was a bit tired to even keep her eyes open. She kissed him back gently before he pulled away all concerned about her nightmare. She rolled her eyes and stifled back a yawn. It was the middle of the night and getting woken up to your parents' murder wasn't the greatest way to wake up.
"You would have to go first," she muttered to him as she took his offered hand and helped herself off of the counter. Then she gently tugged on his hand to lead him back to her bed. It was the nice thing about being the only one in her cabin, she didn't have to worry about waking up siblings or having them walk in on them. As soon as they got to the bed, she crawled in first and far in enough so he could crawl in right after her.

Kurtis almost tried to start something with her on that counter top, her draping her arms over his shoulders. Gods, that was hot. And with his shirt she was wearing open at the first three buttons, Oh la la. The view and feel were....you get the idea. Kurtis held it back though, smiling at what she said.
"I thought it was the gentleman's way to let the lady go first," he said, following her as she went ahead of him, crawling under the sheets. He followed her in, Weeving his way under the covers to be next to her. Her body heat warmed him as much as his was her. He lased a hand under her neck, snuggling in with her. "If I have to go first, then be warned. It's gonna kill the mood."
Kurtis looked at her, not caring if it was in the eye. He wanted a bit of eye contact to begin with. He broke it off, closing his eyes and started. "Well, back before camp, I was kind of immature and man-slut. In the dream" He paused, figuring she was gonna slip something in."So, in my dream, someone actually found out about my eyes and the power they had. So, I was strapped down to a table, while this doctor was above me, telling me about how "Valuable" my eyes were. That he wasn't gonna give them to the pimp that wanted them. Long story on that one." Even to him, it sounded stupid. "So, in the dream, They slowly started. That's was the nightmare. In real life, Kenji busted in with two practice swords, and kicked everyone's collective asses." He chuckled at that, that part a memory he liked but didn't want to revisit ether. "Kind after we got away that I vowed never to control anyone again, since It got me in that situation. According to the dream anyways," he teased, trying to lighten the mood. He grinned a little, opening his eyes a little as he looked through his lashes. He was telling her the reason why he was not into the controlling people's mind business. It was to...false. Plus, it drew to much attention to him. If criminals were willing to rip out his eyes to see if they could get his power, what would the government do. Scratch that. His dad was a diplomat. He knew exactly what the government would do.
Kurtis reached up with his free arm, touching his closed eyes. "They bring me more trouble then they are worth, but they did bring me you, so I can't complain." he smiled, leaning in and giving Jessi a kiss, looking at her as they fed of each other's body heat, Kurtis' charm restored as his hair was now perfect again, his skin color about half way returned, and his tone healthier. "What was your's sweatheart?"

Jessi cocked an eyebrow at Kurtis when he said his story was going to kill the mood. She highly doubted it, but listened out his story. She cuddled in close to him as her eyes half-close as she listened to his story. She opened her eyes and looked up at him with worry when he told about his eyes almost getting ripped out.
"And you want me to follow up to your story?" she chuckled to herself as she looked up at him. She took a deep breath as she kept a straight face. "My parents were murdered by harpies before I came here." She judged his reaction before she continued. "I was in the closet when they were murdered... so all I heard were screams... screams that haunt me in my nightmares now."

"no, I want to just fall asleep on your chest," he said, smiling sarcasticly and rolled over, resting his own head on her pillow, being closing to her again. his eyes closed never the less. For him, it was a way of saying that he trusted her and didn't want to be using his power at all. He inhaled through his nose, taking in her scent from her hair and memorized it, listening as she told him.
His eyes opened on her first statement, casting a small purple light from them on her for a moment before visiblly dimming down. The purple vanished from them, returning to their normal color as she continues, him closing his eyes again, shutting the light away from her. When he lose it, his eyes could cast that purple light and make things that were invisible to others visible, or just expand his range. his eyes were growing in power.
When she finished, Kurtis didn't know what to say. he could relate, knowing that his own father got hurt because of his stupidity. If it wasn't for kenji, they all would have died. what he did was reach over and take her hand in his. After a moment, he said," I can at least thank the gods that your survived that. they must have been good parents for them not to give you away." that was the best he could do. He knew that sorry was a worthless thing. His eyes were still closed, but it was clear that he was in a mixute of emotions. So, he acted on one and leaned in the last few inches and kissed her on the cheek.

Jessi noticed the change of the color in Kurtis's eyes as she told her story. They were... purple. "Kurtis..." She started, but his eyes turned back to their normal color. Jessi closed her eyes and shook her head, dismissing it because of the dim lighting and the late hour.
But she waited for him to say something once her story was done. She waited and waited for him. What if he discovered she wasn't the type of girl he wanted to deal with. What if he didn't believe her. She didn't mention the part where she was training her butt off to avenge her parents' deaths.
She pressed her lips together when he finally said something. That wasn't the answer she wanted and it clearly showed in her eyes. She sighed as she closed her eyes and moved so she was close, but still had distance between them. "We should go back to sleep," she muttered to him. "I need beauty sleep..."

Kurtis knew once she said something, that wasn't what she wanted to hear. "Oh crap," he thought, his eyes widening as she turned over away from him. Seriously, you had to be an idiot not to pick that one up. Kurtis bit his lower lip, thinking on what to say, trying to change it.
Kurtis sighed, saying," Yeah, I guess we both need some." he settled down, painfully aware of the distance between them. Him and his big mouth. He mentally slapped himself across the head, his eyes closed, wondering how to say it.
The child of love felt like he was suddenly in the dog house, and unsure for once how he got there. He'd been in here before, but those times he usually knew how and didn't care. Okay, that was back when he could easily have just looked at the girl's eyes and got himself out, so this was a first. Kurtis was tempted to hell to use his eyes to get himself out, but that was something he wouldn't do.
"I'm sorry about your parents," he said, still looking at the ceiling," But I can't change the past, so I'm glad that your okay and here." That was all he had. If that didn't help, then this was gonna be an awkward sleep. And he wasn't even married yet.

Jessi rolled over on her side, her back towards Kurtis. She closed her eyes as she tried to steady her breathing. Everything seemed to be getting better or at least she was drifting off into the land of her parents' screams until he decided to say something. Her breathing hitched and her heart stopped when he apologized. She squeezed her eyes tighter and tried to ignore him, but he continued further.
"You don't get it, do you?" she finally spat out. She rolled over to face him as she sat up slightly to look at him. "They're dead because of me. Those harpies were coming for me." She felt her heart thumping in her chest as her blood pressure rose higher and higher. "My parents died because of me. It should be me dead instead of them." She huffed a bit as she glanced off to the side. Tears shined in her eyes as she pushed her hair back. "And sorry or me being here and okay isn't going to change it... it's never going to change..."

"Apparently not," he said, a little angry now. Dear gods, what was with this? He got that her parents died, but what was she getting so mad about? Kurtis leaned up to where he was sitting, the covers falling off his torso as he looked at her. Or..well, her neck. he really didn't trust himself to look her in the eye, and looking any lower was just asking for it right then. Course, with his open shirt on her, showing a nice amount of skin.... "Focus kurtis. Now's not the time. Focus. Down boy," he thought as blood started to go downwards. He made himself pay attention, locking his eyes onto her mouth. Safe place.
"Survivor's guilt," he thought, the puzzle pieces finally falling into place. It was three in the morning. he wasn't even close to full brain power. Kurtis looked at her hands, and took on in his. "I'm sorry that I didn't understand, and that they are dead. I didn't get ho-" kurtis stopped, hearing his Cell phone go off.
It wasn't a cheery tone like his usual one. This ring tone was only supposed to go off for one number. Kurtis rolled out of that bad, grabbing his pants off the floor and answered the call. "yes? What's wrong doc?" he asked, for the first time there was dread mixed with hope in his voice.
Kurtis nodded, listening to phone conversation like a life life, standing up. After a minute, he said," okay. I hear ya doc. though, you...never mind," he said, hanging up the phone. After a moment though, something almost snapped. Kurtis' hand was up, about to throw his phone, but he stopped, letting it just fall out of his hand.
Kurtis fell back down, landing on the bed and said," I swear the fates love to mess with us half-bloods." He gave a sad chuckle, spent. The phone flashed on the floor, showing the number that called for a moment, before the screen flashed off. "Sorry about that, and sorry for being insensitive."

Jessi pressed her lip together as the tears kept welling up and shining in her eyes. He just didn't get it. She should not have been here. Her parents should have been alive, not her. She took a shaky breath as she glanced over at Kurtis. He was looking at her. Well, not at her, but it was close enough after she knew about the secret of his eyes. She nodded her head slightly and felt herself to break down as he started talking.
Until his phone went off. Jessi jumped a little, because it was the last thing she was expecting. But when Kurtis rolled off the bed to answer it, she forgot about her woes for a second. She blinked and a single tear rolled down her face as she glared at her boyfriend. But when he flopped back down onto the bed, she ripped into him.
"SORRY?" she shrieked as she looked down at him. "I tell you my darkest secret and you have the nerve to... Are you okay?" She got a glimpse of his face as her eyebrows narrowed in concern.

"Not really," he said, smirking and letting himself flop backwards, his head resting on her legs as he looked up at the ceiling. He didn't even know how to handle this one. Most of the time he didn't let people get to close, but this was a hard one. "For a child of love, I'm pretty bad at this with out my eyes," he thought, almost laughing at that thought.
"Lets go back to sleep. I think we both are having a tough night," Kurtis said, his eyes closed again as he used his right hand to rub the bridge of his nose between his eyes. He wasn't continuing this conversation if he didn't have to. There were already bridges burning, and he wanted to be able to be able to a-dress this when his emotions weren't so conflicted. He knew how pitiful sorry was. How it felt to be responsible for a parents misfortune. He rolled up, turning and giving Jessi a sad smile, not meeting her eyes. It would be to tempting. So very tempting. "You know how much your tempting my eyes right now," he said, it not a question. With a single sentence, he could make her forget her pain, make it something else. Change her. But then she wouldn't be Jessi, his Jessi. Still, saying it outloud removed some of it. Funny how that worked.
