Ashanti had never really understood anything to do with love. It wasn't that she had no feelings to be compared to those in her heart. If anything could be said, she probably loved Artemis like a mother. However, things like love had a tainted view for the the old child. Having lived a long life without love hadn't made her cold, or distant. All it managed to do in the long run was give her an annoyed kind of confusion. She didn't understand all this fuss in the more recent centuries about falling in love and finding the knight in shining armour. From what she'd seen, many knights were arrogant man seeking only gain from a marriage, hardly the noble fighters that people said appeared in novels. Ashanti couldn't read. She had never been deemed worthy of the skill by anybody (apart from perhaps people in the hunt) and had never needed or desired to learn it after she'd joined the hunt. A slave had no use for reading after all. They were there to do the dirty work and to have dance for entertainment in any way their master desired. There was little to no love in that world, where marriage was more often for lust and material gain than love. Wealth married wealth and slaves married slaves, if their masters even allowed it. Ashanti was a bastard child of a rich noble but was given nothing good in return. Shunned by him and possibly just waiting for her turn to become the unwilling lover to one of his friends.
So Ashanti, once again filled with that annoying sense of curiosity, stood in front of the Aphrodite cabin, looking in. Perhaps hoping some sort of clue was waiting in there. Although she didn't want love, she wanted to understand why others might want it so that she could guard herself from it. "I'm not going to be such an idiot." The girl told herself with determination, sitting down and sharpening one of the hunting knives given to her by Artemis. Her bow was in the cabin and Bloodfang was out in the woods for a run. The poor wolf got bored at times. She was sharpening her knives as she looked at the cabin of what was supposed to be love. Why was it so ridiculous anyway? Sticking the knife in the ground she retrieved an apple from her pocket and slowly started to chew on it, contemplating the entire matter. This world was truly going crazy. Well, at least slavery was over now. Nobody would meet that fate. Perhaps the world would become a better place in the end.
