[Drew Desher]

Drew paced silently on the beach as he waited for Viv to show. His hands nervously fiddled with his lighter trying to light another cigarette but when it was obvious that his fingers either would not or could not produce the desired flame he growled and hurled the lighter out into the water his desire to smoke dying in him like a cold ember.



He was mad. Furious at himself for letting himself be trapped and furious at the girl who had done the trapping. He wasn't sure whether he considered that girl to be Viv or Hannah yet but one thing was for certain, his mind was in such a mess right now that he couldn’t think. Everything was crashing in around him. He didn't know how things had gotten this bad but he saw only one way out of it right now and his soul be damned he was going to take it. The only problem was that he didn't have much time.



At the thought of time struck him Drew cast a nervous glance out at the waters. It would be happening soon. He felt a little bad about camp but this place needed to be cleansed of any presence of the gods he was still certain on that. The only problem now was that he had to take care of Viv. He had made his decision and now he had to go through with it. Truthfully he didn't think it would be that hard. With all the confusion around camp no one would notice one missing girl until it was too late. That would give him enough time to do what needed to be done but if Viv didn't show it would be all for nothing and at that he started pacing again. "Damn it Viv where are you?" He mumbled under his breath.

Drew had been kind of distant lately with her, but she really didn't expect him to be close in the first place. As bad as it sounded, she really only used him for a place to crash and the occasional sex. Otherwise, things were supposedly cool between them. She was too occupied with Zeke anyway to really care about what Drew was up to or whatever. But he told her to meet him at the beach tonight and it struck her as odd. There was a sense of urgency in his voice, but she didn't question it quite yet. Maybe she would ask him about it when she met him on the beach. And that was a meeting she was running late for.

Nothing too big, but she did have a minor Zeke emergency involving a dead mouse, but that was quickly taken care of and she was on her way to the beach. She crossed her arms over her chest as the wind was a bit chilly, but nothing too horrible. She finally made her way to the beach as she saw a familiar figure there. "Drew?" she asked once she got within earshot of him. "Do you care to explain what this is all about? And why it had to be here and not at your cabin?"

He was just about to give up on her when he finally heard her voice behind him over the waves. It was definitely Viv and she didn’t sound happy. That wasn’t too surprising considering how he had been acting lately, distracted, distant, brooding. It was no wonder she had questions and he wouldn’t doubt it if she was a little miffed at him too. It didn’t matter though. She could be mad at him if she wanted but right now there were more important things to worry about.

Drew spun around to face her at her question. There were some things that he couldn’t explain to her right now. They didn’t have the time for the explanations that were needed and she probably wouldn’t believe him if he had given them. Instead Drew glanced her over quickly noticing that she didn’t bring the cat. Damn, that was going to make things difficult. The chance that she would like what he had to say would be even less if the cat wasn’t involved but there was nothing to be done about it now. He had to go on one way or the other.

“I called you out here because I had something to tell you.” He said ignoring her question. He had thought this over several times but even now he didn’t know if it was right. Would she even listen to him? Probably not. It wasn’t like they had any connections binding them to each other and yet still he did feel responsible for this mess they were in. “I’m leaving camp.” He said blandly. “Not for long. A few weeks maybe.” This was the moment of truth. Was his desperate gambit going to work? There was only one way to find out. “I want you to come with me.”

Drew was not answering half of her questions and she could tell that something was off. She couldn't necessarily put her finger on it, but something was definitely off, especially with how he was acting towards her lately. She pressed her lips together as she raised her eyebrows expectantly as she waited for him to cut to the chase. And he did cut to the chase. She knitted her eyebrows together as she looked at him. Was he really serious about this? What else was going on in that mind of his? She straightened up a bit as she raised her eyebrows at him.

"Will you please tell me what this is all about?" she said sternly as she shifted her weight a bit so popped her hip a bit. "First you're all moody and distant with me lately and almost borderline jerk-ish again and now you want me to leave camp with you?" She cocked an eyebrow at him as she gave him a once over before looking at him in the eyes. "So would you like to tell me what the Hades is going on here?"

She wasn’t taking it well. He could tell. She wanted answers but he couldn’t give them, at least not yet. “Look, I know it sounds crazy.” He confirmed. It even sounded crazy to him which wasn’t good. “And I will explain just…not now.” He shook his head. He needed to give her something or this would all be for nothing. Later, if there was a later and they got out of here, he could explain everything and he would but right now time was of the essence.

“Something has come up.” He said realizing that he still wasn’t really giving her a straight answer. “It’s nothing major but it’s something I’ve got to handle and I can’t run it through Chiron because I don’t have the time.” He gave her another shrug. “Look, haven’t you ever just wanted to get out of here for a while? It’s not like there’s anything holding us here and if you go I’ll explain everything.” He hoped that was true but he did think he would have to come clean about some things and then there was camp too...He would just have play this by ear.

"It is crazy," she said shortly as she raised her eyebrows at him as she watched him try to get an explanation to her. And what he gave her was probably the most vague explanation ever. And from what she could tell, he wasn't going to give her a complete explanation unless she left with him. But only if she left with him. She rolled her eyes as she pressed her lips together before she sighed loudly. This was a losing battle and Viv wasn't quite sure what she wanted to do.

"Look, Drew," she said as she unfolded her arms and reached up to push her hair out of her face. "This thing between us is cool or whatever, but asking me to leave with you with very vague explanations? That's crossing the line a little. Yeah, I want to leave camp, but never under these circumstances."

She was telling him things he already knew. He knew it sounded crazy, knew it wasn't cool but what could he do? "I wouldn't be doing this if I had a choice." Except he did have a choice didn't he? He was supposed to be killing her right now all for some sadistic bitch's game but could he do that? He didn't think so. Not the one person who kind of sorta got him. He had to find an alternative and this was it.

"Look, I'm sorry. I know this isn't cool but it's more important than any of that." Was it that important though? He should have been trying to get the entire camp to evacuate that way the Kraken could level the place and they could be done with it. Instead he was here with one girl. What was so important about Viv that he needed to save her? Maybe it was just that the act of saving a girl who should be dead was the biggest form of rebellion against his father that he could think of or maybe it was something else. It didn’t matter though because she wasn’t buying it.

He needed to give her something but how could he explain this without pushing her further away than he already had? There really wasn't a way out of this. Drew fiddled nervously with the pack of cigarettes in his pocket before he realized that he had just thrown his only lighter into the bay. "Damn it..." He mumbled. Finally he let out a sigh and looked at her again. "I told you that I wasn't a good guy, that there were things about me you didn't know...are you sure you want to go there?"

"More important?" Viv repeated as she just started at Drew. She didn't know what game he was playing, but she wasn't sure if she wanted any part of it, honestly. He was being super vague with her and she didn't know what he was getting at with him wanting her to leave camp with him. What was so important that he wanted her to leave with little to no explanation? Did he think she would just blindly trust him to just leave with him?

She pressed her lips together as she watched him fiddle with his cigarettes before she raised her eyebrows at him. "Are we really going back over this again? I told you, I don't like good guys and I don't like knights in shining armor. But you're really confusing me right now. So will you start making sense for once? Please?"

Drew drummed his fingers nervously on the side of his leg. He didn’t want to do this not yet, not ever really but if he was going to get anywhere with Viv it was obvious that he was going to have to come clean about some things. Still, did he really think he could trust this girl? Was she really worth all this trouble? This was probably going to be the worst mistake he ever made but he had one ace up his sleeve and he decided that now was the time to play it if there ever was one.

“I’m dying.” He said it so plainly that it really might have missed some of the punch that a statement like that usually had. He didn’t stop there though and before the weight of that statement could really sink in he continued. “Not in the sense like we’re all dying I mean I’m literally a dead man walking. I’m sick Viv. No one else at camp knows, not even Chiron. I’ve kept it a secret for a long time but now things are getting worse. That’s why I’ve got to get out of here. I have to get more medicine and I have to do it before anyone here notices. I thought you might be able to help…”

It was a lie, albeit a small one, but if it got her moving then was it really a bad thing? He didn’t think so. Desperate times called for desperate measures and this was about as desperate as he got. He had to do whatever it took to get her to safety and this with his ace. He just hoped it worked. “Now do you understand why I keep to myself? Why I tried to push you away? I wanted to tell you but be honest, would you if you were in my shoes?”

Viv gaped at Drew. "All of this," she said as she moved her hands to gesture to the entire beach. "Was over some medication?" She couldn't believe that he was being difficult over a couple of pills. She heard the part of him dying loud and clear and she tried to ignore that fact or risk herself shutting down emotionally and maybe physically on him. She didn't want to know what he had. Cancer. AIDS. It could've been a whole slew of things, but the fact that he wanted her to sneak out of camp with him over medication?

Viv sighed loudly as she brushed her fingers through her hair before looking back at Drew. "Okay. Fine," she said as she lowered her hand before pressing her lips together. "I'll join you on this little drug run of yours." Her lips twitched into a bit of a smirk with that joke, but she tried to keep her face straight. "Happy now?"

Drew said nothing as she fired back at him. He deserved every word. It was lame, he knew it was lame and yet it needed to be done. He could atone for all this later, he hoped, but right now the most important thing was getting out of camp before it was attacked. Still, maybe there was a little hope after all. She didn't seem as mad at him for his excuse as he would have thought and eventually she did relent and finally agree to go with him.

Drew breathed an audible sigh of relief he had been so sure that she would refuse him that he didn't even catch her joke but at least she was going with him willingly. "Yes, I'm happy." He said still obviously relieved. "I'll tell you more if you want to hear it but later okay? You may not even want to know but you deserve to." This was probably going to come back to bite him later but now that he had actually told someone he was sick he found it was a lot easier to think about telling more. Not that he wanted to of course but Viv deserved something even if he felt like scum of the earth for lying to her. "I know you need to get your stuff, probably Zeke, but I need to get out of here tonight if possible. Can you handle that?"

All this for a medication run? Viv still couldn't believe it, but she was going to go along with it for now. She'll let the entire dead thing slide, especially since she really didn't want to know and she didn't want him to know her secrets as well. But a quick trip out of the camp to get something pretty dang importantly? That was okay by her for the most part.

She didn't know why, but Drew sounded pretty dang relieved that she agreed to go along with him. She raised her eyebrows for a moment, but didn't say anything before she slowly nodded her head. "I can handle that," she said slowly as she looked at Drew. "I should only be ten, fifteen minutes tops and then we can go on this little drug run of yours. Sound good?"

This would work. He would have to get a script filled but that wasn’t a major deal. People didn’t tend to ask questions from the sick dead kid and he had blank prescriptions for days. All in all this was working out better than he had thought. Thinking about it now Drew really hasn't expected her to agree to come with him at all. He guessed that he should be thankful about that but he still felt like crap. This didn't feel right and yet he still kept coming back to the fact that he really didn’t have any other options.

Viv would find out eventually he know. He couldn’t keep this from her forever especially with them coming back to what in all likelihood would be a destroyed camp but he would cross that bridge when he got there. For now he was just ready to get them both to safety. “Alright,” He said almost back to his normal self for once. “Fifteen minutes is okay. I can wait for you if you don’t need any help and Viv?” He gave her a smile, small but definitely there. “Thanks for this. Really.” He didn’t know how much she would be thanking him later but what’s done was done. He had made his decision and now he was going to have to deal with the consequences.

“Unless you wanted a reason to go through my underwear drawers?” Viv said with a bit of a cocky smirk before she shook her head. “Nah. I should be good. We should be gone for only a couple of days, right? That’s not too much packing there. Zeke on the other hand… he can be a bit finicky when it comes to packing.” She laughed to herself a bit before she took a step away from Drew and towards the cabins. “So I’ll see you in about fifteen.”

And it was close to fifteen minutes once everything was said and done. Viv had everything she thought she would need for the next few days thrown in a duffle bag along with stuff to keep Zeke a happy cat. And it wasn’t too hard to find the cat in question anyway, since he decided to take a snooze on the bed in the Hades cabin that was designated for her. If she even bothered sleeping in her cabin in the first place. She flung her duffle bag over her shoulder as she tucked Zeke underneath her arm on the opposite side, she walked back to the beach to meet Drew so they could go on this little drug run of his. Once she was close enough to him, Viv smirked a bit before she asked, “You ready to get going on this drug run of yours?”

Drew smirked a bit when she teased him. He wasn’t that worried that he had to watch over her every move especially now that he knew that he would be able to get her away from here in time. It even felt a little right to have her tease him, like maybe he really was doing what was best here, but then again he could never fully get rid of that nagging suspicion that this was going to go badly. Still, he didn’t think that she would really need his help packing. “Not like I’ve had too much trouble seeing your underwear so far but yeah packing light is good.” He commented with a bit of his old sarcasm but he nodded all the same. “I’ll be waiting for you when you get back.”

Wait he did and even a bit more patiently than when he hadn’t known if she was going to show up or not. He needed time to think and thankfully the break for her packing gave him that opportunity. A few days. He only had to keep her away a few days and then he could come clean and bring her back. Hopefully that bitch Hannah would be killed in the fight for the camp but he didn’t think he would be that lucky. If not he would have to do something about her himself but at least Viv would be safe for a while. Granted she would probably want nothing to do with him after she knew but it was what it was. He had gone through most of his life without anyone understanding him and he didn’t need that to change now. All he needed was a few days.

He glanced up when Viv returned and breathed a silent sigh of relief when he saw she had brought the cat. The last thing he needed was to save Viv only to bring her back to her one true friend being dead. He wasn’t so cruel as to think that would be okay. Thankfully he was ready to go to begin with and when Viv seemed to be as well he actually got a feeling for the first time that this might actually work out. Only time would tell but step one was out of the way. “The only other choice I’ve got is to get on with dying so yeah we can head out. Come on I want to at least get some distance before dawn that way Chrion can’t come drag us back before we get going.”
