Celeste didn't know if it was true for everyone or not but for most people, herself included, she thought that rainy days could be a real drag. Granted rain had its benefits as any child of Ceres would be the first to tell you but when the storms got bad and the weather kept you inside she didn't think that was much fun for anyone especially when you got trapped out in it and had to make a mad dash to find cover.
Celeste sighed and turned her attention away from the window she was watching the rain out of and back to the small potted plant that she had been coaxing into bloom using her powers. She knew she probably looked like a drowned rat but she supposed things could be worse. At least she had found a nice coffee shop to duck into when the rain started pouring and while it hadn't kept her from getting drenched at least she could sit here and dry off with a warm drink while she waited for the rain to subside. Besides, helping the little flower out provided some entertainment as well and that served as a nice distraction from just how crowded the tiny shop was getting as other Romans sought refuge from the storm.
For now her window booth was empty aside from her. Celeste had gotten here soon enough that she had been able to grab it before the crowd started to gather. Now however she wondered how much longer she would be able to keep to herself. Hopefully the rain wouldn’t last much longer but at this rate with the storm still raging the likelihood she was going to be able to keep to her wallflower ways was getting less. For the moment though she was warm and getting dry and if forced interaction did come maybe it wouldn’t be too bad. She hadn’t been that unlucky yet after all.

| TRADITIONAL APPLICATION Anastasiya Ty - Seventeen- Camp Jupiter – Questioning - Single
likes-- Photography The color purple Rare flowers Fresh baked bread Sunny days Folk music dislikes-- Fire People who live with no regard for nature Letting people down Making decisions Feeling left out / useless Meat of any sort, including fish strengths-- Artsy things Sneaky fighter Herbalism weaknesses-- Tries too hard to please everyone at once Lacks confidence in herself Blames herself for everything even the mistakes of others fatal flaw-- Indecision – She often finds herself unable to make tough choices especially when those choices might have life and death consequences. Even somewhat simple things will lead to an impending sense of doom creeping over her until she refuses to act. fears-- Fire – She was trapped in a burning building when she was younger and almost died. She doesn’t like being around bonfires and even campfires make her nervous. She treats torches and other open flame light sources with caution. Enclosed spaces – Likewise because of being trapped inside a burning build she likes to be is spaces with lots of room and fresh air. Lock her in a small dark room and she will freak the junk out. Rejection / Failure / Upsetting people – She likes making people happy. Unfortunately she isn’t always able to do that. Because of this she has a fear of upsetting people and being rejected by friends and family. She occasionally has nightmares to this effect. preferred weapon-- Spear cabin/cohort-- First allegiance-- Roman
personality-- Celeste is a quiet and reserved child of Ceres who likes marching to the beat of her own drum and taking things slow. Despite what her purple dyed hair might suggest she is not too much of a wild child or trouble maker. She likes having fun but her idea of enjoying herself would be having a picnic outdoors or taking a long walk through the Gardens of New Rome instead of drinking the night away at some party she won’t remember in the morning.
A competent fighter what she generally lacks in size and strength she makes up for in cunning and ingenuity. She excels at using nature as a weapon and has been known to even use the natural toxins of various plants to injury her foes with minimal effort. That said she doesn’t excel in leadership roles. Naturally timid as she is Celeste can become almost paralyzed by indecision when it comes time to make the tough choices. Instead she finds herself most at home in a support role doing what she is told and trying to keep others alive.
Celeste is selfless to a fault. She thinks of others before and almost to the exclusion of herself and it’s not uncommon for her to get trapped in an impossible game of trying to please everyone. This attitude also has the tendency of making her be the scapegoat for others. In her mind she would rather keep people happy and out of trouble by taking blame herself than put up with fighting. Because of this it is not uncommon to see her taking the failures of others on as her own and suffering the consequences and guilt that come with that. godly parent-- Ceres family-- Antonio Bertelli – 40 – Father – Deceased Angelica Channing – 50 – Aunt (Father’s older sister) – Guardian Michael Channing – 52 – Uncle - Guardian pets-- N/A
hometown-- New Rome history-- Celeste was born into one of the old Roman families and grew up in New Rome where she was fully aware of her heritage. True to form she grew up much as one would expect of a daughter of Ceres with a love for plants and the outdoors. Her father owned a bakery in the city and even from a young age Celeste helped to grow fresh herbs and vegetables for her father’s shop. All in all they had a rather quiet and simple life in Rome and together were able to stay out of a lot of the usual drama that came from being a part of one of the mover and shaker families of the city.
Unfortunately it was not meant to last and for the young daughter of Ceres her quiet, simple life came to an abrupt end one night when she was ten. No one was able to ever figure out how the fire started and even Celeste herself doesn’t remember much from the tragedy. All she really can remember is waking up to the feeling that her lungs were burning and not being able to see because of smoke in the air.
At some point in the night the bakery had caught fire and by the time Celeste woke the situation was already very serious. The ground level of their shop home was completely in flames and the fire was already encroaching on the girl’s room. With nowhere to go she was effectively trapped and being only ten at the time she could think of little else to do beside scream and hope someone came to her rescue.
Hearing her cries for help her father fought his way through the flames to save her. Shielding her from the heat with his own body he carried Celeste to safety but not without paying the ultimate cost. In the end suffering from wounds and burns from the fire her father succumbed to his injuries leaving Celeste effectively orphaned at the age of ten. Eventually she was taken in by her aunt but this event proved to leave lasting scars on the girl which she has still not recovered from to this day.
Life went on however and while Celeste still grieved the loss of her father her aunt and uncle immediately began looking to her future. Being from a far stricter side of her Roman family Celeste’s new guardians thrust her into preparation for continuing the family name in the legion and sure enough she was eventually taken by Lupa to the wolf house to further her training and prepare her for her life in the army of Rome.
Celeste can’t remember much of her time in the wolf house or has at least chosen to forget it but eventually she did succeed and Lupa’s trials and started the long, perilous journey home. When she got there she found preparations had already been made granting her letters and access to the most prestigious of the legion’s cohorts. There she was assigned to the 1st and her new life as a legionnaire began.
Celeste faced a long road to prove that she belonged in the legion. Ceres wasn’t exactly a goddess to inspire fear and trembling after all and the girl had to fight for every ounce of respect she got. Unfortunately, despite her training and the fact that she is a competent warrior there are still many that see Celeste as weak. This problem is compounded by the fact that she doesn’t have the confidence or the back bone to standup for herself. Combine that with an inability to make the tough decisions and the daughter of Ceres finds herself being set up as the scapegoat more often than not.
It’s certainly not the best situation but Celeste wants to succeed in the legion. She wants to make her father and her family proud of her but she struggles with insecurity and fear. Still, this is all she really has left. With nothing to go back to she has put all her faith in the legion for good or for bad and hopefully she will one day be able to overcome the doubts and misgivings that have been holding her back for so long.
