It was rare for Dakota to be scheduled an overnight shift in the infirmary. Usually that was reserved for the Apollo kids since they had the built in medical knowledge. But those nights that Dakota did work were mainly slow since most of the patients were asleep. Slow nights usually drove Dakota insane, but the one good thing came out from this was the sunrises.
This morning after her shift, she decided to sit on the front steps of the Big House. She rested her arms on her knees as she watched the sun come over the eastern horizon. She took a deep breath as she felt herself relax. After this, she would head back to her cabin and sleep, but right now she was just going to appreciate mother nature.

((Yay, my first IC post! I hope this is okay ) The past few months Courtney had spent at Camp Half-Blood had been, in a word, insanity. Between all the different training activities the camp had thrown at her, Courtney would often end the day completely exhausted. However, that didn't mean that she didn't still enjoy watching the sunrise. Courtney had gotten up a little earlier than usual and, as her constant energy had decided to kick in a little early that morning, had decided to get up when the sun did. Fall was sweeping quickly over Long Island, and Courtney eventually decided on wearing a bright orange camp T-shirt, a purple windbreaker, jean capris, and her usual beat-up brown tennis shoes with white socks. Fairly confident that it was late enough for no harpies to attempt to eat her, Courtney quickly made her way out of the Apollo cabin and into the sunrise for a morning walk. Or, knowing her, a run. Courtney didn't know where she was going, nor did she care, as she looked around in wonder at the sun-touched scenery. The sunrise had always been something magical to Courtney, something exciting, the start of a new day. She was honestly surprised no one else was out this early in the morning--she was already practically bouncing on her feet. Courtney only realized where she was when a large farmhouse came into sight on the horizon--the place Courtney knew was the Big House, which also held the infirmary. While Courtney was a "child of Apollo"--she made a face at that thought--and had medical knowledge and some skill in healing, she'd never been put on a shift in the infirmary. She'd always hated the sight of blood, so she'd always try to weasel her way out of doing shifts. Every time she got out of a shift, she felt guilty, however, and the guilt only grew worse the more times she refused. It wasn't that she didn't like helping, it was just that she didn't like blood. Figures that she'd be the only Apollo camper to be averse to the sight of blood. Courtney was snapped from her thoughts when she noticed someone sitting on the steps of the Big House. Her eyebrows rose as she began to jog closer. The girl didn't look like one of her cabin-mates...so who was she? Courtney wasn't sure if they'd met before--she didn't think so... Courtney decided to get answers in her typical, straightforward way. She walked up to the steps, plopped down beside the girl, and glanced around at the scenery. "Beautiful morning, huh?" Courtney said, perhaps a little more loudly than was absolutely necessary at that time of morning, before letting out a long sigh, "Yeah, the sunrise is always pretty, isn't it?" She then turned towards the girl and gave a little wave. "Hey! Have we met before? I don't think so. Who're you?"

Dakota just sat there on the steps as she wrapped her arms around her legs. Her chin was perched up on her knees as she watched the sunrise. It was peaceful as splashes of red and orange decorated the previously dark sky. Dakota couldn't exactly explain why she liked watching the sunrises. It might have been she was a child of the goddess of beauty and couldn't help but appreciate the beauty in nature. She didn't know.
Dakota was so wrapped up in the sunrise that she didn't notice that someone was jogging up towards her. It only took a simple comment on the morning to shake her out of her thoughts. She jumped a bit as she glanced over at the girl who approached her. It only took a quick glance to tell she was an Apollo girl. Dakota hadn't worked with her yet, but all Apollo kids had an aurora to them.
"It is," Dakota said as she nodded her head. She glanced at the girl out of the corner of her eye as she decided to sit down next to her. "I don't think we've met before." Dakota fully faced the girl as she gave a little bit of a smirk. "I'm Dakota, daughter of Aphrodite, but I pick up a couple of shifts now and then in the infirmary."
