"The art of making a friend" (Adam and Jay)

The lake was one of Adam's favorite places to sit and draw. He often grabbed his giant drawing pad, all of his different styles pencils and what ever other art supplies he thought he would need and went and sat in the shade of a nice tree and just drew what he saw as it transformed in front of him. It was his form of capturing the very strange but magical world around him. That was exactly what Adam had planned for this rather breezy Saturday. Adam had finished his training and chores rather early and so by the time he got back to his cabin to freshen up it was only about 3 P.M.

When he returned to his cabin he noticed two things. The first was that his 10 foot tall brown hell hound was once again taking up his entire bed and using it as one giant doggy bed, his pillow sopping wet from his fluffy companions drool. The second thing that he noticed was that his brother was no where to be found. Adam guessed that he was probably off studying some book but he didn't want to make his family worry so he decided to write or rather draw him a note. Adam quickly grabbed a pencil off of his own desk and his smaller notepad from one of his drawers and quickly began to doodle. He quickly drew a rather detailed picture of his own face, he then drew a box of colored pencils followed by the lake. Once he was satisfied with his note he dropped it on his brothers bed.

Adam then set to work to getting ready. He quickly grabbed his massive colored pencil set,his largest drawing pad and his pencil case which contained sharpeners and sharpened pencils. He then changed into a fresh camp shirt, a pair of cargo shorts, a pair of black sneakers with an owl on the sides and his favorite leather jacket. He then grabbed his satchel bag and stuffed his supplies in it. Finally he let out a loud whistle causing Angel to sit up and hop to the floor and crouch down so that Adam could climb on her back. Adam then walked across the room and cut off the lights so that a large shadow filled half of the room so that Angel could shadow travel. He then climbed on his friends back.

"To the lake girl!"

Angel let out a loud and deep bark and rushed toward the wall where the shadow was coming from. She then jumped through it causing everything to go blacker then the darkest void. When the light finally returned, the pair were at the lake a fair way away from the water under a large tree with multicolored leaves. Adam hopped off of Angel's back and hugged her around her neck causing her to nudge him with her large nose causing him to laugh.

"Go play girl."

Angel then huffed and began to ran away to the waters edge to chase the leaves she was knocking down with her large heavy steps. Once Adam knew that his friend was taken care of he sat down under the large tree in a cross legged position and pulled out his supplies and sat them out in front of him. Once he leaned back against the tree he looked out at the lake and picked up his pencils and notepad and began draw the beautiful photo in front of him as the leaves danced on the surface of the water.

Today Jay had decided he wanted to relax down at the lake, he'd spent too much time cooped up in his cabin that he almost felt as if he'd forgotten what fresh air felt like. Something which wasn't exactly a positive reflection on his social life to say the least. The only fresh air he got was the short walk to Daven's cabin or the air surrounding the arena. Other than that, nothing.

When he arrived at the lake he took a deep breath in, smiling afterwards. Gods fresh air was nice, a pleasant reminder. However someone was sitting in his favourite spot, at the bottom of the tree on a slight hill. He tilted his head slightly and then walked over, glancing to the sketch book before back to the boy. "Hey man. Great spot right?" Jay let out, giving the boy a small smile. He wasn't protective over his 'spot' so there wouldn't be any problems here unless the kid turned out to be a dick but somehow he doubted that.

Adam was in a state of pure serenity as his left hand was busy drawing the lake scene before him. He loved fall, he would even go as far as to say that it was his favorite season. It wasn't to hot or cold, Christmas was only a few months away, pumpkin spice was in full swing and the best thing of all was that the changing leaves combined with the wind added a more artistic edge to the world. Adam just hummed to himself as he drew the small leaves that were dancing upon the lakes surface as if they were a couple dancing in a ballroom. Adam was brought out of his trance by a happy male voice. He looked up to see a young oriental and dark haired man looking down at him.

"Yea it is, it's one of my favorite places to sit and draw. Care to join me?"

Adam smiled his best southern boy smile and then gathered up his art supplies and scooted a bit to the right so that the young man could sit down next to him if he wished too. Before Adam went back to drawing the lake and the surrounding area he looked away from it to check on his beloved companion Angel to make sure that she wasn't getting into trouble. Adam couldn't help but laugh when he saw that Angel was laying down in a pile of leaves and a family of squirrels had begun using her as a perch. Thanks to Angel's thick skin it didn't seem to bother her all that much and she often did love making woodland critter friends. Once he knew his companion was happy he turned his attention back to the newcomer.

"I'm so sorry, I haven't introduced myself yet. I'm Adam Jackson and the big brown hell hound over there is Angel. She's my companion,battle mount and the guardian of our cabin. I myself am the counselor of Athena cabin. What's your name?"

Adam smiled at the man again before turning his head back to his drawing since he was almost finished. Once he drew a few multicolored trees he smiled at his picture before turning the page to a fresh clean one. He then grabbed a regular pencil from his pencil bag and began to do the outline of Angel, the squirrels and the pile of leaves they were laying on. The way Adam saw it, Making friends was just like drawing a masterpiece, it took time but if things went well the result would be beautiful.

Once the boy suggested Jay sat with him, he gave him a nod and then sat down, about a foot or two away from him. His eyes glanced over to the lake, he loved the view from this spot. Then when he began to introduce himself Jay looked over at him and gave him another nod. He seemed to announce himself as if that was all a huge title for him, seemed quite formal. "I'm Jay Keon. Apollo cabin." He replied back to him, running his hand through his own hair before glancing over to the hell hound. Jay wondered how someone would even come across something like that, but he figured something as 'dark' as a hell hound would have stayed away from the son of a sun god.

Adam couldn't help but smile as as the man named himself as Jay son of Apollo and then sat down next to him. Adam quickly finished his drawing of the lake and closed his drawing pad so that he could give Jay his full attention. Once his stuff was packed up he turned to face Jay with a big smile as he thought about all he knew about not only Apollo but his children. Apollo was the god of archery, poetry,music and healing and so his children were the camp medics as well as musicians. If an Apollo child reached adulthood they would mostly become one of the worlds best band members or doctors.

"How are things in Apollo cabin? The way I hear it, your cabin is filling up quite a bit. It's still only my brother, myself and Angel in the Athena cabin. Angel was sent to me by our mother Athena as not only my companion but the Athena cabins guardian. She is actually very docile unless I order her to attack something or someone. I never do that unless it's self defense though. You should meet her!"

Adam then happily whistled with his fingers in his mouth causing Angel to perk her head up and quickly stand up. She then shook the squirrel's off of herself and then ran towards her happy owner with big heavy paw steps. When she reached him she flopped down onto her stomach in front of Adam and Jay, letting out a happy bark. Adam then rubbed her head and kissed the top of it with a happy smile. He then cupped her big head in his hands and lifted her head so that they were nose and nose.

"Say hello to Jay Angel, he's a new friend from Apollo cabin. Apollo cabin is one of the ones we like."

In response, Angel let out a happy bark and then nudged Jay gently with her head and then rubbed it against his chest gently before curling at Adam's feet and plopping her large head into his lap. In response,Adam petted her happily causing her to make happy growling noises. As he tended to his companion Adam looked back at Jay.

"The only major cabin that I have her on guard against is the Hermes cabin. They are always trying to prank us because we are considered the nerds at camp. They can't get past her senses to prank us which is totally rad. So, what kinda stuff do you do for fun? I'm an artist, I am big into training unlike my brother, hanging out with Angel and my brother. I really try to do some of everything. What about you?"

"The Apollo cabin is alright, it can be abit hectic here and there but nothing too bad." Jay replied to her with a shrug, taking a glance around before looking down to the grass and beginning to play with it, twirling a strand of grass around his index finger. In all honesty, Jay actually liked the Apollo cabin. Most of the members were decent people that he could get along with so there wasn't any issues with him but there was obviously going to be arguments here and there.

Then Adam called over the hellhound and Jay observed, giving off a small smile when he was nuzzled by the beast. He had a dog back home when he was younger so it wasn't strange for him. Ignoring the fact he was a hellhound. An eyebrow rose when Adam said it was sent by his mother. "Why would your mother send a hellhound? I thought that was more Hades' style." Jay questioned with a shrug, the boy seemed to talk a lot. Even for Jay, who was a social butterfly, it was noticeable. He'd say one thing and then go on to say a lot more. It wasn't bad though, at least the conversation kept going. "I usually spend my time training, sitting here or playing basketball." Or hanging out with Daven, Jay just decided to leave out that part.

Adam smiled as Jay spoke about his cabin and how it could be hectic but still nice. It was nice to hear that another family was as happy as the Athena brothers were. Adam couldn't help but think back to the many different late night talks that he and Jeremie had through the years which made his smile grow. When Jay asked why his mother sent him a hell hound when Hell Hounds were normally Hades thing Adam shrugged with a small sigh as he happily petted Angel's head so that she stayed content. He then looked back at Jay with a warm smile.

"One thing you learn being her child, you don't question Athena's decisions. She is the goddess of wisdom after all and I'm just her son. If I HAD to take a guess at why she sent me Angel instead of some other animal it would be because Angel isn't just my companion. She's my battle mount and my cabins guardian. Her size makes her ideal for both jobs as well as her ability to shadow travel makes getting around a battle field easy and quick plus look at her! She's so fluffy and adorable!"

Adam then hugged Angel's head causing her to lick his cheek hard and gently headbutt her owners chest and nuzzle into it lovingly. Adam decided to scratch behind her left ear causing her left back leg began to thump hard against the ground hard enough to cause some leaves to fall from the tree that they were sitting under. Once Angel had had enough, the large puppy minded dog flopped onto her side with a loud thud and began panting happily as if she was gonna nap right where she fell. Once Angel was down for the count, Adam turned his head back to Jay to listen to what he liked to do for fun. They had a few things in common.

"We could train together sometime and maybe you could teach me to play basket ball. I know the move names and such but learning about something and doing it are two separate things. Does that sound like fun?"
