Isabel had always said that the status was life for them. It is what kept them Roman. Status and power were in her blood and the place of most status and power in Rome was the Forum. Maybe that's why she hated this place so much. As she strolled through the forum it was filled with banter and groups of people. All socializing and all trying their hand and showing off for one another. You would hardly be able to tell that only a few weeks ago New Rome was under attack by a Kraken of all things. Words of fear and action passed around as citizens tried to determine what the legion would do and how it would react. No information had been released to anyone, not even the legion. Whatever was going to happen was going to happen soon though. It was unlike Rome to let something like this pass retaliated. Her mother said something that this is just how Rome is, always has been. Constantly under attack by everyone else. Regardless she knew the next few months were going to be interesting.
What wasn't interesting was her weekly grocery trip. Gods she hated it, not that the shopping bothered her. It was nice to get out of the house and out of the barracks that she did not mind anymore. The shop keeps were generally nice but those who know her family always gave her the same act. Sucking up, saying how great she looked and how much of a lady and all that normal goosh. It was always annoying and remind her of the days as a kid. Back straight, head high, eye contact all that good stuff that her mother grew up on. That she grew up on. The idea of that type of status had freaked her out as a kid, now she knew that it was something she had to live with. It wasn't a surprise. As she walked hrough the Marketplace with a glass bottle of soda in her hand and bags in the other she knew her place in this world was always going to be as a Medici rather than as Catherine. Cat, the small squeaky girl that kids would poke fun at and had to keep her head high when all she wanted to do was play and cry like a normal kid.
