[Tawny Mitchell]

Tawny skated smoothly through the crowded streets of New Rome avoiding civilians, dodging vendors and gliding along with a practiced ease that came from practically growing up on a skateboard. The rubes gave her dirty looks and mumbled stuff about punk kids as she passed but for the most part the blonde girl didn’t really notice. People always thought she was some punk kid and that was fine by her. As long as they didn’t get in her way or make any lame rules about not skating on the streets she was cool.



Granted she did have some things on her mind too that were pretty distracting but even if today hadn’t been the day for her little bet with Archer she probably would still have paid the haters no mind. For now though there were more important things to think about namely what she was going to eat when she won this bet and how much she was going to make the poor boy pay for calling her out on her skating skills. Right now she was hovering between taking it easy on him and letting him off the hook all together but they would just have to see how this little meet up went. It wouldn’t be long now and then she would finally get to show off.



Her knee was healing nicely enough. It wasn’t really bothering her now and she had changed out the bandage Archer had put on her for a much cooler one that had some graffiti letters and colors on it. In Tawny’s opinion it was a big improvement and one that she at least wouldn’t be embarrassed to skate with. Archer probably wouldn’t care but she liked what she liked and other people could just deal if they didn't.



Tawny made good time to the spot where they had decided to meet and glided to a halt next to a big statue of some important Roman dude. It was a quiet part of town with plenty of benches and rails and various other pieces of Roman architecture that she could use as makeshift platforms and ramps. That made it the perfect place to show off but as she looked around she didn’t see an Archer. That was okay though. She had never needed an audience to show out to before and she certainly didn’t need one now. While she waited for him she would just try a few simple spins and smooth transitions just to get herself warmed up. So that’s exactly what she did swaying and gliding and moving around the area with the same kind of fluid grace that a dancer might have except much more impressive because she was on a skateboard and she didn’t need to be in some frilly dress. Just let Archer walk in on that.

Today was the day and Archer was no idiot. Sure, he made that bet with Tawny and he was hoping that she would lose it. However, he was more than expecting that she would win and completely exceed his expectations. And he wasn't quite sure if Tawny would be the kind to take it easy on him with the food requests or do something very expensive. With that in mind, he made sure his wallet was prepared either way as he made his way towards the plaza in New Rome. He was familiar with the place that Tawny wanted to meet at and he was pretty sure that she might injure herself again, which explained the little first aid kit that he whipped up in his back pocket.

Archer walked into their meeting place a little before their meeting time to see that Tawny was warming up or practicing. Whichever you wanted to call it. He leaned up against one of the structural pillars with his arms crossed as he watched her for a few moments before calling out with a smirk, "Are you practicing to lose?"

Tawny was enjoying herself as she usually did when she was just skating around for fun and she didn't really notice when Archer showed up. It wasn't until he finally announced himself that she realized she wasn't alone and once she did she smoothly brought her board around so that she could get a better look at her spectator. "Strong words from the scrub without a board." She chuckled as she glided closer. Archer was back to his usual teasing so she figured she would follow suit. He was asking for it after all.

Gliding to a halt in front of him Tawny hopped off her board and tucked an errant strand of her blonde hair behind her ear. She didn't know if she really expected him to show up or not but it was good to see him outside of Legion stuff again. It was such a big part of their life that it was sometimes easy to forget there were real people under all that armor and she liked Archer. He seemed pretty cool anyways and that was a quality that was pretty rare among the all too serious Romans. "This I could do in my sleep. You haven't seen what I can do when I'm showing off yet."

Archer chuckled as he pushed himself off the column and took a few steps towards Tawny. “Those are some strong words coming from a scrub herself,” he said with a chuckle as he shook his head. From what he could tell, she was as talented as she bragged about, but spills could always happen. And sadistic as it sounded like, he wanted her to take a fall so he could go ‘I told you so’ to her.

But he hadn't seen what she could really do? Archer had to laugh aloud as he shook his head. “I brought a first aid kit just in case to fix your knee… or maybe your ego.” He looked around the area before he raised an eyebrow at Tawny when he looked back at her. “Let's get this show started then. Where do you prefer I go to observe this potential disaster?”

Tawny chuckled. Here she was thinking she would take it easy on the guy and he definitely wasn't doing himself any favors. Of course he was probably just teasing, trying to get inside her head but Tawny was starting to think she was going to have to make him eat those words or rather pay for them while she was eating. Certainly she would be pulling out all the stops now whether he liked it or not.

"You just make yourself comfortable. You'll want to be somewhere so that you can keep your jaw from dropping." She grinned at him but there was really nothing more to say. At times like this it was better to let her skating do the talking. Which was exactly what she did as she pushed off and began slowly gliding away from him. She grinned at him for a moment as she drifted away but that was the only goofing off that he got as in the next instant it was game time.

Snaking from side to side Tawny picked up speed and once she got going she was really moving. She skated around the area spinning and flipping her board with a series of kicks and jumps designed to show off her footwork and balance. With her lanky frame she looked to be taking an almost lazy stance on the board but by shifting her weight she was able to kick it and spin it in midair without even really having to put in much effort at all.

After a few minutes of this she turned her attention to the landscape around her and that's where things really got interesting. The thing about columns and slopes and arches were that they weren't only pretty but also made great ramps and obstacles to climb, jump and slide off of and Tawny knew how to take full advantage of everything that the Roman architects unintentionally offered her. For her part Tawny knew how to put on a show performing several big jumps and aerial tricks to keep her audience interested. That said it didn't really look like she was performing for anyone at all. Instead she was just having fun with it and testing just how far she could push things.

Finally she finished up with a sliding jump off one of the benches. She kicked off at the last minute flipping her board in air before landing with her balance on the tail of the board in a little popped up wheelie. At first the landing looked a little awkward but as she shifted her weight she went spinning on those two wheels like an ice skater before finally letting the board go flat for just a moment. As a last trick she popped the board up again, caught it between her legs and landed hopping on the back of the board like a pogo stick. As she hopped she looked back up at Archer for the first time since she had started with a big grin as if to say 'look what I did.'

Keep his jaw from dropping? Was she that confident in her abilities? Archer had to chuckle before he moved to a bench that looked like it would give him a pretty good view no matter where she skating around in the area. He patted his pocket to make sure that the first aid kit was still there before he sat down for this little disaster of a show. Unfortunately, Archer did not get a disaster like he had planned. He kept his face solemn as he crossed his arms over his chest as he watched her skate around. To say that she was good was an understatement. The girl seemed to do things that he'd only seen the pros do and she made it look easy. The only thing that broke his solemn expression was a couple of eyebrow raises.

Tawny was really making sure he got a show and she didn't fall at all. Once she was done, Archer uncrossed his arms before he started slowly clapping. "I got to hand it to you," he said as he shook his head. "I was expecting at least one fall in there and you did none. So where do I owe you food?"

She was expecting a flummoxed look. Even a little emotion would have been nice but at first she thought he was just going to sit there. That was just rude. Especially after she had gone all out. Tawny was just about to stop her hopping and call him out on it but finally the dude let the stone cold façade drop just a bit. Granted it wasn’t the jaw dropping response she wanted but she would take what she could get. She knew she put on an awesome show at least.

Shaking her head and chuckling a bit Tawny landed her board and lazily kicked off towards him again. “You totally wanted me to wipe out.” She said with a grin. She was kidding as she didn’t really think that he was cruel enough to want her to get hurt but once she realized that he really had been expecting it she wasn’t going to let him live it down easily. Besides, she had earned the right to rub it in a little. “Had zero faith that I was any good.” Tawny glided right up to him and poked him in the chest. “I think you just like patching me up."

Tawny hopped off her board and gave the guy a little space. She didn’t want to push him too far as a free meal wasn’t much fun if the guy paying the bill was grumpy. Still, she made sure she held on to a few comments for later just in case he ever started doubting her skill again. Now though it was time to think about food and that was a very interesting subject indeed because she had to decide what Archer was buying. “How bout pizza?” She said as her thoughts turned to filling her belly. “Not sure if that’s your thing but I could go for some if you can.”

"I can't say that it didn't cross my mind," Archer said with a shrug as a lazy smirk crept onto his face. "After seeing you with that knee injury of yours, I couldn't help but think you would've wiped out at least once even if it was an almost. But I guess you proved me wrong." But he had to let out a little bit of a chuckle. "I told you that I'm not a medic or anything, but you're a pretty good patient. You didn't squirm or anything."

But now was the moment of truth and he hoped that his wallet wouldn't be screaming after her food choice. He was expecting something completely expensive, since he probably deserved it, but he was honestly surprised with her answer. "Pizza?" he said as he raised he eyebrow before doing a once over to make sure that she was serious. Once he decided that she was serious, he nodded his head. "We can do pizza." He nodded his head towards the right as he said, "I know a good joint unless you have a place you prefer?"

“Don’t feel too bad. I was practically born on a board.” Tawny said with a grin. “My mom’s a famous snowboarder and it’s kind of the same principle. Truthfully I’ve probably been riding boards in some shape or form almost since I could walk.” It was good that she was finally getting just a few props for what she had done out there. Usually she only got hurt when bad when she was trying to invent something dangerous and new. All that other stuff was pretty standard for anyone who had spent as much time on a board as she had.

“Of course you wouldn’t have known that because I wanted a free meal but it was kind of fun getting to show off for someone too. As for the patient thing I’m tougher than what I look ya know?” Tawny didn’t look like much at all. Skinny, lanky and kind of tomboyish most people discounted her in the legion. Still, there was a little more steel in her than most people had. There had to be if she was going to have the guts to pull off some of the tricks she tried.

Archer’s reaction when she made her dinning choice got another chuckle out of her. “Yeah dude, pizza. You didn’t think you were going to have to take me some place super fancy did you?” She could tell what he was thinking but he was probably going to be disappointed. “Don’t think you’re getting off that easy though. I can pack away more pizza than you might think.” She said as she patted her belly. “And yeah if you’ve got a place in mind might as well go for it. I’ve never been afraid of trying new places.”

"Famous snowboarder, huh?" Archer said with a bit of a smirk. "I'm half-surprised that you're not a Chione kid. That snow powers probably would fit you better than invading other people's dreams." He chuckled dryly as he felt a twinge of jealously. At least Tawny knew her mother. Archer knew he had parents, but only had vague memories of them. But he had to push that aside, anyway, because he had a pretty girl to take out to pizza.

"Who doesn't want a free meal? I swear free food is better the fancier it is." Archer said as he rolled his eyes before moving to put an arm around Tawny's shoulders. The move wasn't meant to be anything romantic, but more like buddy buddies. Tawny was pretty cool with him even if he did have a feeling should could possibly be more. "But c'mon. I'll take you to one of the best pizza joints I know." He started to steer her towards the direction his pizzeria was located. "And don't try to embarrass me too much. I know people there and I have a reputation to protect." He nudged her a bit. "Just as I know you probably have one to protect as well. But it's time for me to pay up. I do keep my bets."

Tawny grinned. “Yeah pretty wild huh? Guess it all worked out though as I’m more into the skateboarding scene anyway. That and I’m kind of cool with my powers just the way they are.” She guessed it was kind of surprising that her mom had gotten the attention of Somnia of all people when most of the gods tended to go after lovers who were more attuned to their natures. That said she didn’t really know what kind of profession someone would have that would impress the god of dreams. Professional Sleeper maybe? Seemed like more of a Somnus thing to her.

They were walking now though and Archer was right. Free food was the best food. That and the fact that Tawny and fancy establishments just didn’t mix usually. “Sounds pretty cool.” She said and had to blink when he slipped an arm around her shoulder. It wasn’t a bad thing and she was used to guys doing it when she was around her friends but that was usually in a group. She didn’t have many guy friends that would do it when they were alone but she decided it was probably best to act cool about since Archer was. Besides, there was pizza to eat.

“Me try to embarrass a guy who doesn’t know a good skater when he sees one? Nah. You must be thinking of someone else.” Tawny smiled as she was led toward the pizzeria. She would behave for his sake but she was kind of interested in where he was taking her. Granted she could understand about protecting your rep she just wondered what rep her had to protect. “So how do you know this place? Got family or something that works there?”

Archer chuckled to himself. He really couldn't see Tawny with ice powers anyway, so maybe the dream invading powers were more up her alley. He didn't worry about it too much. With his arm around her shoulders, he directed her to one of what he considered finest pizzeria joints in New Rome. He kept the pace pretty slow, since it wasn't really that easy to walk with one hand in your pocket and an arm around a girl. He knew that it was probably going to start some rumors, but he didn't care. He had to pay up after all.

He laughed a bit as he rolled his eyes while saying his head and looking up to the sky. He gave her shoulder a slight squeeze before he said, "Nah, I think I'm thinking of the right one. A blonde who got her knee torn up not too long ago." But then she asked about the place they were going to and if it was ran by his family. The question kind of stung a little bit, but he couldn't get mad at her. She didn't know. "Nah," he said as he looked down at her. "Family friends that are legacies of Ceres so they're damn good in the kitchen." It was funny how much of his history was pieced together when he found New Rome, again.

"Hey my knee is healing up pretty nice." Tawny said with a chuckle. Honestly her knee didn't even hurt anymore. There might be a little scarring but nothing serious. It was definitely nothing to worry about in any case. "I may have had a little help with that though but I think we are going to get to avoid amputation. Why else do you think I recruited you to be my very own medic?" She wasn't too sure if Archer had totally bought in to his new role yet but she was definitely not letting him forget about it any time soon. If she did have anymore accidents you could bet that she was keeping Archer in mind.

"Yeah I hear you there." She said as Archer mentioned some family friends. Her mom had plenty of connections here in New Rome as well and it was hard to get around without running into someone she was related to distantly. It was something that she had to get used to when she got here but it was kind of cool running into people who know about you every once in a while so long as they were cool. "I think as long as your family friends can make a good pie we'll be able to get along just fine. You've gotten me all excited now so hopefully they won't let me down."

Archer chuckled underneath his breath as he shook his head. She was really hell bent on him becoming her personal medic. Archer didn't have anything against it, but he still thought that she was making a big mistake. Sure, he could patch up a knee just fine, but it was the injuries that extended past that he didn't trust.

He squeezed her shoulder a bit as he turned her down a side street. “I think they make excellent pie and if you think otherwise, I might have to reevaluate our friendship.” He chuckled again as he winked at her before he stopped outside a restaurant. “This is it,” he said as he let go of her shoulder so he could open the door for her. “Best pizza joint in town. It even says so on their sign.”

Tawny let herself be led through the streets as they talked and before long she found herself standing in front of a pizzaria that did indeed claim to be the best pizza joint in town. The skater girl read the sign a chuckled a little at the proclamation. Amy place that had the stones to make that kind of claim in New Rome had to be on the level and Tawny imagined they probably had the food to back it up too.

"Alright, you've sold me in the idea and if you get lucky your friends might even have a new customer." Tawny grinned at him. She wasn't averse to trying new things but she was pretty loyal when she found a cool place to hang out. Hopefully all of Archer’s friends would be fun as well. There was only one way to find out though and right now Tawny was hungry. "Come on. We've been using our mouths for talking when we should be using them for eating. I'm starving."
