She almost killed her boyfriend.

It had been a while since the fight between Jessi and Kurtis that lead to Kurtis being almost beaten to death. He was getting better according to the Apollo kids, but that guilt stayed inside of her. This was something she wasn't used to. Yeah, jealousy and zeal were right up her alley because of her father, but guilt? She hated it.

She hated it so much that she tried to avoid to avoid the twins when she wasn't pushing Kurtis around camp. This was one of those days. As soon as she dropped of Kurtis to be in the care of his siblings, she immediately left and headed to the lake.

For some reason, sitting at the edge of the dock barefoot with her toes dangling in the water was soothing to Jessi. However, she got a pang of guilt and she kicked at the water before leaning back onto the dock and covering her eyes with the palms of her hands. She was absolutely sick of this guilt and just wanted it to go away forever.

Of course. Of course Kurtis managed to turn that one moment of Jessi letting out her frustration on him into a romantic moment. She wasn't completely happy to find his lips against hers, but she kissed him back during that brief moment. And things were okay for that brief moment until that asshole from the Apollo cabin interrupted them. She glared at the boy as she took her deep breaths. This was something that she was working on. Deep breathing to control her temper and her powers. She was afraid that if she lost her temper once more, she would kill Kurtis this time around.

She continued those deep breaths as she tried to help get the sand out of her boyfriend's shirt. "Maybe we should take you back to the cabin," she muttered underneath her breath as she brushed off the sand. "This way we can make sure that you're actually in a place a wheelchair should be..."

Jessi never thought that a tearful apology would be wasted on a drugged out boyfriend. She sighed as she chuckled a bit as she reached up to wipe the tears from her face. "Both," she responded as she gave his hand another gentle squeeze and laid it in her lap. That, however, lead to a very inappropriate question in front of his brother. "I think you're too drugged to be awake," she responded to him as she moved his hand off of her lap.

Kenji made his comment and all Jessi did was roll her eyes. That was the most tame reaction she could give at the moment, considering the boy was trying to kill her only moments ago. But then Kurtis started moving. "No," she said as she put a hand on his chest and tried to push him back down to lay against the bed. "You are in no shape to walk around. You can barely use your legs." She felt a pang of guilt as she said that as she glanced over at Kenji. She was glad Kurtis was alive, but still felt horrible with everything that happened earlier that day.

She sighed as she looked back at her boyfriend. "No," she said as she moved to push his hair out of his face. "We didn't get a chance to eat." At that moment Jessi could also feel her stomach grumble a bit. "Do you want me to see if the Apollo kids will allow you to have something?"

The next hour was a blur for Jessi as she somehow made it into the waiting room of the infirmary. She was quite a few seats away from Kenji, not fighting to get anywhere near the door that held her bleeding Kurtis. She heard what the Apollo kids said as they hurried through the doorway. He's critical! We need to hurry or we might lose him! She curled up in the chair and tucked her head into her knees as she tried not to cry, but a couple of tears made it down her cheek. It was all her fault that he was like this. All her fault she couldn't control her powers.

Her head perked up when she heard Kurtis was out of surgery. He's alive... she thought to herself. She moved away from her chair once Kenji was inside the infirmary to the doorway. Kurtis was in really bad shape, but that was not what got to her. Seeing the blood transfusion, Jessi suddenly felt herself hot while her vision darkened around the edges. Slowly she was going out of it and she stumbled over to the nearest chair to stick her head between her legs as she took deep breaths. She felt pale, but her vision was slowly clearing up. Apollo kids would come by to check on her, especially when she finally sat up and her skin was a ghostly white, but she would just wave them off. They had better things to do than worry about her.

She adverted her eyes most of the time away from the blood transfusion, but she still had a good view of Kurtis's bed. Her eyes stayed glued to his feet, until they were blocked by Kenji sitting on the edge. She heard his one question and she felt her heart drop to the deep, dark pit of her stomach.

"It's my fault..." she whispered barely enough for him to hear. "I couldn't control my powers..." She closed her eyes as a couple of tears streaked down her face. "It's my fault he's like this... I made you do it... because I was angry at him..."

"Oh yes," she sarcastically replied as she rolled her eyes. "It's the latest trend, don't you know. It's called my boyfriend was a jackass last night and made me cry. I think it's a wonderful look on me, don't you think? I might start wearing it everyday."

Two could play this game, Jessi thought to herself as she felt Kurtis bump her arm back and immediately walked into the mess hall without bothering to hold the door open for her. She was outraged. He went from being some asshole to becoming a complete douche bag. Jessi didn't bother keeping her powers in control as she walked into the mess hall.

She glared at Kurtis and Kenji as they walked away from the door as she walked in. She stormed over to her table. Her powers were radiating over everyone in the room. If she started another food fight, so be it. Hopefully Kurtis would get some gum or hash browns in that hair of his. She no longer cared.

Jessi woke up the next morning feeling completely horrible. She didn't sleep at all once Kurtis left her cabin. She sobbed into her pillows and had a very restless sleep the rest of the night. She couldn't believe that barely twenty-four hours together they fought and she kicked him out of her cabin. And the last words he had to say to her before she left, she just felt horrible.

She took a hot shower that morning and changed into clothes that were her own, even if Kurtis's was more comfortable. She didn't even bothered to put on makeup to cover the dark circles underneath her eyes. What she planned on doing today anyway was going to the mess hall to get breakfast and then moping all day in her cabin.

So she pulled on one of her dad's sweatshirts and walked outside towards the mess hall. What she didn't expect on the way there was to run into her boyfriend after all that happened last night. "Oh..." she muttered as she avoided eye contact. "It's you."
