Free came to a rest against the back wall with a groan. That did not feel good and worse than getting hit she hadn’t even gotten a good look at what hit her. She was alright, at least she thought she was in any case but right now there was only one thing on her mind. Whatever hit her needed to find out what happened when you started trying to throw around a daughter of Heracles and Freedom thought she knew just the way to teach this lesson.
Getting up from where she had fallen Free heard Daven calling to her back from the front of the church building. “Yeah I’m here and I’m pissed.” She said and locked eyes on the hydra. Free thought she remembered something about her dad fighting one of these things back in ancient times and maybe that was why this one went for her first but whatever the case she was about to kick its ass back to Tartarus. “You worry about shooting it as many times as you can and I’ll keep it busy.”
That seemed like a good enough plan to Free. She couldn’t remember how exactly her dad had killed these things but she had never met anything that didn’t die when she beat on it enough. Cracking her knuckles and clenching her fist she stared down the hydra and began running at it. “You want to dance big boy? Then let’s dance.” With that said she launched herself at the monster with a flying punch.

Free had entered what she could only guess was a small antechamber where maybe a priest or the caretaker of the church building would stay. There wasn’t much to see and Free was about to head back out and give the all clear when she heard the loud crash back in the main room. “Shit, that doesn’t sound good.” She grumbled to herself as she reached into her pocket to slip her celestial bronze knuckles over her fingers and rush back out into the hall. Daven was shouting for her boyfriend and things didn’t sound good.
She found the girl back in the main room looking around frantically for that Jay guy. Free rushed over to her side trying to see if she could find out what happened but Jay was nowhere to be found. A large crater in the floor boards where they had left the boy didn’t bode well either. “What happened? Did you se...” Free began trying to talk some sense into Daven but that was as far as she got. From out of nowhere something erupted from the floor and hit Free like a freight train knocking the air right out of her and sending her sailing across the room. She didn’t even get a good look at it before crashing back into the lectern with jarring force.

Stairs? Made since if they needed to get up to the tower but where were you supposed to put stairs in a place like this? Free wasn’t exactly the church going type. There were too many judgmental people that had no business messing with her life and it wasn’t like this was built like some of the ancient temples she had seen. She guessed they were just going to have to look for it until they found some way up and hope that it didn’t take very long. Splitting up though? Well that was another matter entirely.
Free glanced at the pair of lovebirds with a raised eyebrow when Devan dropped Jay’s hand and suggested they split up. The little chickadee wanted to split off from her protector? That was odd but Free did want to be done with this as soon as possible and splitting up would probably help them find something quicker. “Alright I’ll start checking around this front area to see what I can find.” Turning in the opposite direction of Devan the daughter of Heracles headed down a hall leaving Jay in the area they had been standing in. “Watch your back.” She called back to them and then she disappeared inside one of the rooms lining the hall.

Freedom followed her companions towards the old church building watching as Daven pointed up to where she thought the lanterns would be located. “Makes sense that they would be at the highest point. They would definitely be able to be seen up there.” Trailing off as she spoke Free walked up to old church building and started looking around. She wasn’t sure if that’s where they would keep a priceless artifact or not but it made sense to her and it wasn’t like they had any better places to look at the moment.
“Don’t suppose either of you can fly up there huh?” She asked already knowing the answer. “If we can’t go over it I guess we have to go through it…Hopefully nobody’s home today.” Walking up to the doors of the church building Free pushed them open and held them for Daven and Jay. “Ten bucks says this isn’t as easy as it looks.”

Damn it. Now that Daven had said something Free was finding it really hard to not feel like something was lurking for them in the shadows. She hated that feeling. If some monster wanted to fight them then why didn’t it just jump out and fight them? What was it waiting for? Free didn’t know the answers to either of those questions but she found herself wishing that Audrey could be here to watch her back. She knew the hunter wouldn’t let her down. She didn’t know about these two questmates that she had been paired up with.
Walking along beside the couple Free tried to shove the uncomfortable feeling that they weren’t alone out here aside. Just grab the stupid lanterns and they could head back. That thought pushed her onward and as they came out of the alley she glanced around until her eyes settled on a red brick building with a tall steeple. Granted it was nowhere near as build as some of the buildings around it but Free could just imagine that back in the middle ages or whenever this guy was supposed to have lived it would have been the perfect place to hang a lantern for everyone to see. Raising her hand she pointed in that direction. “There. We need to go there.”

Shortcuts were generally good. They got you to where you needed to be faster than going around and when you were trying to grab magical items and get back to camp before things went sideways 'faster' was definitely preferable. The only problem was that some shortcuts were better than others and narrow alley ways were the perfect spot for an ambush.
Freedom wasn't thinking about things like that though. She was a doer not a planner and when Daven spoke up about feeling like she was watched it was the first time Free had really considered the fact that this might not be as easy as they thought it would. "Why'd you have to say that?" The raven haired girl groaned as she walked next to Daven. Of course she knew that if there was something there it had likely been waiting there for them and hadn't just come along because Daven spoke it into existence but saying it out loud still seemed like it was inviting trouble.
Nervously Free reached into her pocket and slipped her fingers through the comforting grip of her celestial bronze knuckles. She wasn't afraid of fighting but she didn't like sneak attacks. It was one of the things that made her so angry about that day with the kraken. "I don't see anything...but I guess it wouldn't hurt to keep our guard up." She sighed and looked around. "Let's just hope it's nerves."

She knew that the love birds might not look favorably on her methods but Free really didn’t care. She hadn’t come on this quest to hold hands and sing camp songs and if she could put her particular talents to use to help them finish things up quicker then she would. Besides it wasn’t like anyone would miss one map of Boston so no harm was done. That being the case she gave Jay a little shrug at his comment and said dryly. “Better than wandering around the city and if we’re going to get burned up for going there we might as well commit a few sins to make it worthwhile.”
“Alright so if the church is there and we’re…” She quickly glanced up and around taking in a few of the sights and then returning to the map. It took her a moment but eventually she recognized something and pointed it out. “…here. It doesn’t look like it’s too far.” Looking up again she nodded at a path between two buildings that was up ahead. “If we cut through there we should be able to see it at least.”

“Yeah I don’t think they care much about their rating.” Free commented as she glanced in the direction that Daven was pointing. It certainly did look old but then again a lot of things around here looked like they were right out of ye olden days. Daven probably didn't have any more of a clue than the rest of them but at least it was a direction to get them started and that was good enough for now. "That way is fine with me." She said with a shrug and started off in the direction the girl had indicated. "Maybe we can find something to eat on the way. Not like we have to waste the chance to get away from camp for a while." Walking along with her quest mates it was really hard to keep her mind from wondering. Daven and Jay were being cute and couplely and Free just had her thoughts. That was fine with her as she wasn't much for cute and cuddly things anyways but she wasn’t content with just being a third wheel on this trip. Spotting a nearby tourist information stand she motioned for the others to stop. “Hold up a minute guys.” She said as she broke away from the two of them and rushed across the street without any explanation. The tourist stand didn’t look open but that had never stopped her before and one little trip around back and a broken lock later she was returning to the party with a map of the local attractions. “Take a look at this. Should get us around the city a little easier than just wondering around."

“A church?” Freedom said speculatively. She had never really had a liking for church going folks. There were far too many judging eyes and her tattoos and piercings tended to make her stick out like a sore thumb. “Guess that narrows down our search to about a million to-ooof…” She would have said more but her sarcastic tone was cut shut as the taxi skidded to a stop and she rocketed forward into the seat back in front of her. “Gods’ dammit give a girl some warning!” Free yelled at the old crones but the hags merely stopped their arguing long enough to laugh at her.
Free kicked open her door with enough force to rock the car on its side for a moment and then hopped out glad to finally be on her feet again. Glancing around while she waited for the others she noticed that they were located on a sidewalk looking out onto what she assumed was Boston harbor. A cool sea breeze was coming off the water and the buildings surrounding them were a mixture of more modern skyscrapers and old colonial style brick buildings. Free had to take it all in for a moment before finally turning back to her fellow questers. “So we’re looking for an old church right? I say we head towards the oldest looking buildings and see what we can find then.”

Free wasn't in a mood for being particularly friendly at the moment and with her head hurting like a motherfucker there really wasn't a lot of hope for Daven or Jay to improve things that much. She did agree with the Daven girl though. They were in the middle of a quest and she didn't need any funny stories in her life. "Not the right time and besides, I'm not really the funny stories kind of girl." She said as the city lights came into view. They were almost blinding considering how fast they were moving but at least they were getting closer and maybe that meant they could be in, out and back at camp before too long.
"Looks like we should be there in a few minutes. Why don't we focus on what we're going to do when we get there?” She said as she tried not watch as they narrowly missed hitting a building. “Either of you know where this Paul Revere dude was supposed to be? Boston isn’t exactly a small city and I always hated history in school."

So Daven and Jay. Names to go with the faces and a little knowledge to boot. Apparently they were a couple and with that the lingering suspicion that Free had when they first met, that sense that she was really just the outsider looking in on this trip, seemed to cement itself. Unfortunately there was nothing to do for it now. She was going to have to finish this one way or the other even if she was starting to wish they had chosen someone other than her for this quest. "I'm Freedom." She said with a sigh and turned her head slightly to look out the window. They hadn't gotten going yet and it was easier to look at trees than it was the happy couple. "You can call me Free I guess. Most people do." She had just starting to settle in for a long uncomfortable ride to Boston but the Grey Sisters apparently had other ideas. As Daven gave the destination the car gave a sudden blast forward and she was thrown back into her seat hard enough to bump her head against the back window. "Son of a..." Free shook her head and for the first time really took notice of the three women sitting up front. They were bickering and arguing about where they were going and what they were doing and they seemed to be passing an eye and a tooth between the three of them. Free didn’t mind that so much but the driving? Sheesh. "Would it kill them to give a little warning?" She grumbled discontentedly as she rubbed the back of her head. Trees were beginning to slip by faster and faster and it was making her kind of sick to watch so she looked away. "At least we should get there fast."

To be honest Free had never really taken the Chariot of Damnation but she had heard enough people talking about it that it jumped out in her mind. If you wanted to get somewhere fast like they did then you might as well take advantage of some fast transportation and the Grey Sisters were supposed to be some of the fastest. She grabbed her bag when the Persephone girl started the incantation and no sooner had she finished than a dilapidated yellow taxi burst out of a cloud of smoke in front of them.
“They’ve got fast service at least.” Free commented as she walked over to the taxi and tossed her bag inside. Hopping inside herself and making room for the others she decided she should at least try to make small talk. They were all in this together and it wasn’t likely she would be able to get by without talking to her questmates for the entire trip. “So,” She said a little stiffly. “I’m guessing you two know each other. Either of you ever done something like this before?”

The love birds were apparently having a bit of an unexpected reunion. One of them wasn’t supposed to be here and it was causing some drama. Freedom really didn’t care about what was going on here or who was supposed to be where all she wanted was to get started on this quest and she hoped these two weren’t going to cause any problems. It was bad enough that she was having to leave camp at a time like this but she really didn’t want to be thinking about lovey dovey stuff when her girlfriend was missing.
“We could take the Grey Sisters’ taxi.” Free suggested from her spot away from the group. She supposed they could steal a car if they wanted to drive themselves but if time was really important they might as well get something that could get them to Boston quickly. “Unless either of you know how to hot wire a car that may be our best bet.”

It was a simple quest. Just go pick up some old lanterns from Boston and bring them back. They wouldn't be gone long. She could do this and when she got back Audrey would be waiting on her. It would all work very well and if that growing suspicion that something was wrong wouldn't go away she would just have to put on her big girl pants and suck it up. That's what Audrey would want her to do.
"So that's it? Just go get the lanterns and then wave us on our way?" Free glanced at the two that would be accompanying her on this trip. They seemed to know each other which she guessed put her at a disadvantage. Whatever. She didn't care what these two were up to so long as they got a move on so that they could get this quest over with. "Well I don't know what you two think about all this but I'm ready to get on with it. The quicker we leave the quicker we can get back."

What was Chiron thinking? A quest? Why did he have to select her for a quest now? As far as Free knew she wasn’t really the questing type. Oh sure she was strong and pretty good in a fight but a quest? Why her? Why now?
Free sighed as she made her way towards Thalia's tree. The problem was that she hadn’t seen Audrey since the attack and that made her nervous. Free tried to keep telling herself that nothing had happened, Audrey was a survivor and she had probably just gotten separated from camp. She would be waiting for her when she got back. At least that’s what Free hoped. The other option, the option she was trying not to think about right now was much darker. What if Audrey had gotten injured in the battle with the Kraken? What if she was...No. Free wouldn't consider it. She had this blasted quest to worry about now and even though she should be out looking for her girlfriend she knew that she couldn't. Audrey would be waiting for her when she got back. She had to be.
The walk to the tree didn't improve her mood and seeing Chiron standing there was only making her more angry at him. What as even so important that they needed a quest anyways? Didn't he get that they were all still trying to recover? Gods she hoped she could get this over with fast. Sighing again she took up a spot leaning against a tree and looking at the old centaur. "Alright, I'm here. What's this all about anyways?"
