Gone Away (Quest Thread Thingy)

[Daphne Scotts]

"Mkay," Daphne hummed as she pulled onto the ramp heading towards the southbound highway. Traffic was light enough that she was able to pull onto the highway with little trouble. Daphne was still trying to get used to driving this type of car. It was definitely geared more towards males with all the extra doodads that were just at the driver's side alone. Once she got onto the highway and going a little over the speed limit, she glanced over at Marius just in time to see his smile. "What you smiling about?" she asked him before she glanced down at the doughnut box and frowned. They were empty. "We should probably get more of those," she said as she nodded her head towards the box.

"Bribery." Marius said with a smirk as he turned to look at Daphne. "And what it can get some people." He leaned his chair back slightly as he glanced at the road. "It should be in the next few exits." The son of Hermes looked at one of the signs. "The third one after this one." He told her as he read which exit the one they were passing was. "Yeah, we should get something to eat in a little bit." Marius agreed with her. "What would you like?" He asked while he thought of what they could get for food.

Daphne's face heated up to a soft pink when Marius was talking about bribery. "It does get you a lot of things," she said with a bit of a smirk as she turned her eyes back to the road. She took the exit Marius said as her mind flipped through the different places they could get food. "Doesn't matter to me," she said with a bit of a shrug. "I'm perfectly okay getting a cheeseburger."

She pulled off of the highway and followed signs to the circus where their seer would supposedly be. Daphne knitted her eyebrows as she looked at the surrounding area. "This is a weird place to have a circus," she said before she made a final turn to where the circus was.

Empty. It was completely empty and barren. "What the Hades..." Daphne pulled up into one of the parking spots and parked the car as she looked out into the emptiness completely dumbfounded. "What do we do now?" she asked as she glanced over at Marius.

Marius grabbed the map and pulled it open, making sure that they were at the right place. He cursed to himself in ancient Greek when he looked up and saw that they were in the right place. "Maybe they moved?" The thief tried to convince Daphne and himself more than likely. "Just went to the next venue." Even he knew that he didn't sound that convincing, having read that the circus would be here until the end of the week. He cursed out loud as tried to figure out what they should do next.

Daphne stared at the emptiness in front of them before she groaned. She turned off the engine as she slumped back into her seat. "What do we do now?" she asked as she reached up with one hand to push her hair back and out of her face. She just felt frustrated with herself. She decided she needed some fresh air. She kicked the driver side door open as she stepped out of the car and wandered into the vast emptiness.

Which turned out to be the biggest mistake she could make. She felt the ground start to shake underneath her as her heart started to race. This wasn't an earthquake. Her eyes darted around trying to find the source of the rumbling as she turned around. Her eyes widened as she saw a giant bull ram into the side of the car. "MARIUS!" she screamed as she grabbed her necklace and yanked it off. A sword immediately appeared in her hand as she ran over to the car.

Marius watched Daphne as she got out of the car, admiring how she looked to try and get his mind off of the frustrating circumstance they were in. It was working as his smile got a little wider as he watched her body move as she walked away from the car a bit. He was just about to get out too when he felt the car begin to shake.

"DAPHNE!" The son of Hermes shouted to her as he looked around to see if she was in danger. He barely got a look at the gigantic bull before it rammed into the passenger side of the car. A sharp pain ran through his side before he hit his head on something and blacked out.

Everything just seemed to be in slow motion as Daphne ran towards the car. She could see every detail as the bull rammed into the car and the car crumpled up. Her best friend was in there. Marius was in there. After the impact, the bull ran off and the car spun out of control towards her. Daphne jumped, using her wind powers to make sure she wasn't hit by the car. She landed and the care stopped spinning.

Daphne glanced over her shoulder and saw that the bull was no where in sight, but it didn't mean that it wasn't coming back. She dashed over to the car and tried her best to yank the car open. It was crumpled and wasn't opening. Daphne glanced over her shoulder as she ran to the other side of the car and opened it. She crawled inside, making sure she didn't cut herself on glass as she tried to rescue Marius, but it was hard since he was out cold. "No... no no no no," she muttered as she reached over to undo his seat belt and pull him out of the car.

Normally, it would have been ten times more difficult to do this, but Daphne had that adrenaline pumping through her veins. She pulled Marius out and laid him down on the ground as she grabbed their bags. The ground started shaking again and Daphne glanced up to see the bull was making its way back. Her eyes widened as she put a strap of each of the backpacks on her shoulders and grabbed Marius underneath his armpits so his back was towards her.

Then she flew up into the sky and towards the city. She glanced over at the bull as it got tinier and tinier, but it didn't follow them. Daphne kept flying until she approached an abandoned building. At this point, she felt her adrenaline wearing off and everything was becoming much to heavy. So she crashed into a window making sure that the backpacks broke the landing. She made sure that Marius was okay before she dragged him into another room without all the broken glass.

She found an abandoned bedroom with a bed and laid him down on it before she turned to her bags. She started rummaging through them to find the medical kit she insisted they packed. It wasn't long before she was working on Marius trying to make him better.

Marius groaned a few times in his sleep while Daphne worked on getting him bandaged up. His eyes fluttering slightly a few times as she continued to fix him up. His face was bloody and bruised from the attack. It wasn't until hours later that he finally woke up.

"Gods..." The son of Hermes muttered when he opened his eyes, feeling like he had just been in a car crash. He looked around and saw Daphne asleep on a chair next to the bed he was in. He tried sitting up and let out a curse as pain shot through his side.

It was long and difficult for Daphne to bandage Marius up. Her body was aching from the rescue and she felt herself getting exhausted with the lack of adrenaline in her system. She got him cleaned up and fixed up as much as possible as she sat in the chair next to the bed. She wanted to stay awake long enough for when he woke up, but her sitting down was the last straw. She passed out in the chair for a couple of hours.

Daphne stayed asleep until she heard Marius let out a curse. "Huh?" she muttered as she jolted awake in her chair. She squinted a bit as her eyes got adjusted to the light for a couple of seconds before she saw Marius up. "Here," she muttered as she reached towards the nightstand and grabbed a piece of ambrosia and handed it to him. "It's gonna help you." Once the square was out of her hands, she slumped back into her chair as she felt herself start to relax and teared up a bit. "That was scary back there," she whispered to him.

"Thanks." Marius said as he reached over to take the ambrosia from her and eat it quickly. "Yeah. It was pretty scary." He agreed with her before catching the tears in her eyes. "Hey, we're safe." A wince crossed his face as he forced himself to sit up. "And while I may be a little banged up right now, we will be okay. No need for tears right now." The son of Hermes told her as he stroked her cheek comfortingly with his thumb. A slight frown crossed his face when he saw all the little scrapes and cuts she must have gotten while trying to get him out of danger.

A couple of tears streaked down Daphne's face as Marius reached out to stroke her cheek. "I know but..." she muttered as she moved to sit on the bed next to him and reach up to cover his hand with hers, "but you didn't see it ram into the car... I was so scared... I thought I lost you..." Her eyes closed as she choked back a sob as a couple more tears streaked down her face. She didn't allow herself to be that way for long as she opened her eyes to look at him. "But you feel somewhat okay?" she asked him with worry in her eyes. Now that a couple of hours had passed, she saw some of the bruises appearing on him and they weren't the prettiest sight. "Not feeling nauseous or a headache, are you?"

"Well, I have a headache, but I think I was just in the demi god's equivalent of a car crash." Marius said with a slight smirk. "So that's to be expected." His fingers moved to brush away a few tears from her face. "But I'm not nauseous or anything like that and I seem to be able to focus enough to see the tears in your eyes so I don't think I have a concussion." The thief grabbed her hand with his free one and pulled on it lightly to try and pull her up onto the bed with him.

Daphne forced herself to return his slight smirk, but she couldn't help but feel horrible. She should have been in that car with him. She should have taken damage or even more. She took a deep breath as she nodded her head. "No concussion, good. Those are nasty to deal with." Daphne had quite a few herself with her wide variety of extreme sports she liked to partake in.

He lightly pulled on her hand and she took the cue as she crawled up onto the bed next to him and laid down. She reached out to brush some of the hair out of his face as she gingerly brushed across any bruises she touched. "I'm just glad I got you out of there when I could... I don't know if I could put up with a fire breathing bull."

"Yeah, I can imagine that would be hard to deal with." Marius said with a soft chuckle, shifting a bit to give her a bit more room on the bed to make it more comfortable for them both, wincing a bit as he moves the wrong way. "Gods, that hurts." He says as he puts a hand on his side. "The car didn't survive, did it?" The thief asked Daphne with another chuckle, making a poor attempt to lighten the mood. He wrapped an arm around her and pulled her closer, being careful to not hurt himself anymore than he was.

Daphne's eyes immediately went to his side when he winced a bit. She didn't like it at all that he was hurting this much. "Do you need another square of ambrosia?" she asked before he asked about the car. "The car is basically a crushed can," Daphne said with a bit of a smirk. She could tell that he was trying to lighten up the mood, but she couldn't help but feel horrible about it. "It definitely doesn't have any resale value now."

He pulled her closer and she buried her face into his chest and took deep breaths. "I think you made a pretty bad investment." She giggled in his chest as she moved to look up at him. "A couple of drachma for a car that later becomes a crushed can." She stuck her tongue out at him. "We should have gone with a top safety pick or whatnot."
