Gone Away (Quest Thread Thingy)

Daphne blushed and smiled a bit when Marius complimented her new hair. Maybe... maybe that crazy Aphrodite knew what she was doing, but Daphne wasn't going to admit that aloud. She just nodded her head as she tried not to skip back to camp. She changed out her clothes at her cabin, grabbed medical supplies at the infirmary and did her best not to kill the Apollo kids, and then finally grabbed some new weapons from the forges.

With all that work, Daphne was the first one back to the Hermes cabin. She sat down on the front steps as she noted how weird it was that they were back at camp in the middle of a quest. It wasn't long before Marius showed up and Daphne stood up to greet him, but noticed there was something off about him. "Marius... what's wrong?" she asked him with a concerned look.

Marius stopped dead in his tracks and cursed himself in ancient Greek in very creative ways for giving himself up to Daphne so easily. "No, it's nothing. Just worried about where we need to go next." He lied to her as he ignored the Joker's applause for the curses, congratulating him on his creativity. "I've never been to Olympus and I've heard that New York City isn't that kind to demigods, especially powerful like you." The thief took a deep breath.

"Daphne, I want you to stay at camp." He told her before suddenly teleporting next to her and make a grab for the medical supplies. "The quest hasn't been looking that great recently and I don't want you to get hit be something meant for me." Marius turned towards the middle of camp. "And to be quite honest and frank with you. You can't stop me if I really tried."

Daphne raised her eyebrows, not completely believing her best friend. She crossed her arms as she looked at him, wanting him to tell the truth. "We'll be fine in New York," she tried to comfort him. "Yeah, I probably attract more monsters than you, but I can also help you kill them. It's going to be fine." However, her words didn't comfort him at all with what he said next.

"Like hell you will," Daphne snapped as she reached out to grab Marius's shoulder with one hand as the other tried for the medical supplies. "You're stuck with me, mister, whether you like it or not." Her eyes narrowed as she stared at him. "It's enough bad luck that we're without Ariel, but if you leave me, you're in the worst luck possible. You can't take on a three person quest by yourself." She took deep breaths, but she felt her heart pounding in her chest as the adrenaline started kicking in. "I will follow you if I have you, but I won't let you be an idiot and finish this quest by yourself."

Marius turned to face Daphne when she grabbed his shoulder. His face hard as he tried to stick to his guns. "How will you find me? You couldn't keep up with me even if you flew. You forget just exactly what I can do." He pulled on the medical supplies which they were both holding onto now. "And if I really tried not even Shogun could keep up with me." The thief took a step closer to his friend, hoping to try and make her back off. "I can just leave in the blink of an eye and you wouldn't even know how to find or catch me."

Marius's face softened after he took a deep breath. "Please, Daph. I don't want to hurt you too." The son of Hermes whispered to her. "I'm losing my mind and I don't know what I'm going to do next and I'm afraid if I did something no one could stop you from being the target."

Daphne yanked back on the medical supplies as she glared at Marius. "And you forget all that I can do," she hissed back at him as she made sure her grip on the bag was firmer than ever. "Do you know where to even start looking once you hit Olympus?" She raised both of her eyebrows at him as she studied his face. "I know the mythology. You're just hurting yourself if you leave me here."

Her look stayed hardened as he attempted to explain himself. "And you're only hurting me by leaving me here. I'm going with you," she told him flat out. She took deep breaths as she looked him in the eyes. "I can take care of myself. You need someone there to make sure that you finish this quest. I'm going to be there."

Marius tried to remain firm as Daphne talked, really not wanting her to be near him in case he does go completely crazy. "Fine." He said softly when she finished saying her part. His hand letting go of the bag they both had grabbed. "But if I say to get away, you better be flying out of there if you need to. Got it? I'm not going to let you get hurt for or because of me."

The thief grabbed her arm and made sure she stayed looking at him. "If you can't promise me this, then I will leave right now and you will never be able to catch up to me without my father's help." He told before letting go of her arm and waiting for an answer from her.

Marius finally gave in and let go of the bag of medical supplies. Daphne yanked it back to hide it behind her back just in case he thought about tricking her. She wouldn't put it past an Hermes kid, especially the cabin leader to try something like that with her. "Okay," she said to his suggestion. Would she actually take it? Probably not.

However, she changed her mind as he grabbed her arm and made sure that she looked him right in the eyes. She narrowed her eyes at him a bit before she huffed out, "Okay, I promise." She yanked her arm away from his hand as she hitched up the supplies onto her shoulder as she decided to talk towards the camp entrance without checking to make sure he was following her. "We better... Apollo sounded like you could lose it any minute now. We better find that damn sword soon."

Marius watched Daphne for a few second before letting out a sigh, still not liking the idea of her staying with him for the rest of this quest. "All right. Did you get everything you needed?" He asked as he double checked his own supplies. His eyes scanned over the bags he had, which had food, clothes, camping supplies, and extra weapons just in case. "Before we leave, I want to teleport back to D.C. to pick up the supplies we left there." The son of Hermes told his best friend as he stood up straight and threw the bags over his shoulder. "Some of them could be very useful." He mentioned as he thought of his magic map and some of the more volatile weapons he had packed into the car.

Marius looked over at Daphne, smiling to put her a little more at ease. "Are you ready?" He asked before extending his hand to her. "We have quite a big area to search for that stupid sword." The thief gave her a brief wide grin, ignoring what the Joker was saying to him in his head.

Little did Marius know that Daphne crossed her toes when she made her promise. Two could play this game. She raised her eyebrows at him when he mentioned going back to DC. "Are you sure you won't be drained doing that? DC is pretty far away." She looked him once over. She thought he looked pretty healthy, but the last time he pulled a stunt like that, he nearly passed out on her. She sighed as she remembered some of the supplies that they did leave behind. "Fine, just make sure that the god doesn't go after you for revenge or whatnot."

She hitched her bag up onto her shoulders as she nodded her head. "Ready as I'll ever be," she said as she headed out towards camp. Her mind was racing with the possibilities of where that sword could be around Olympus and how they could recover it to heal Marius.

Marius took a few minutes to catch his breath after he went and got their supplies from DC, feeling more than a little tired from the toll teleporting that long of a distance took on his body. He took deep breaths, smirking up at Daphne as he held up the bags to her. "Told ya I could do it." The son of Hermes teased her before sitting down and looking up at her. "I doubt either one of us would be welcome up on Olympus right now, so we'll have to check someplace else until the gods decide they'll tolerate us for a little while."

He opened one of the bags he managed to recover from DC and started to double check that everything was there. After he was done, he stood back up and looked around. "So how are we getting to Brooklyn?" Marius asked his best friend as he tried to puzzle out the newest problem.

Daphne didn't like the idea of Marius poofing off to DC, but there was nothing she could do as she waited with her arms crossed across her chest. She bit her lower lip as she waited while she was thinking up ideas how they were getting to the Big Apple. They couldn't teleport, that was clearly out of the question at the moment, and there was no way that Daphne was going to let Marius steal another car.

She jumped a bit when Marius reappeared again. She reached out for him as she made sure he wasn't injured from this act of stupidity. "Good," she muttered underneath her breath as she reached up to push her hair out of her face. She took a deep breath before she said, "And I have an idea how to get there... I'm not sure how.... safe it is, but it's pretty much our only option."

She turned to face out to the road as she chanted, "Stêthi 'Ô hárma diabolês." And it didn't talk long before the Chariot of Damnation shrieked to a stop right in front of them. "Here we go," Daphne muttered underneath her breath as she gathered her bags and crawled into the back of the taxi.

Marius frowned at the words Daphne spoke in ancient Greek, not liking the implication to them. "What is the chariot of damnation?" He asked his best friend before the smoky taxi pulled up in front of them. "Is this our ride? Do we need to pay them or something?" The idea of whatever payment this cab wanted did not make the son of Hermes feel good at all. He watched as Daphne crawled into the backseat of the cab before even bothering to tell him what was going on.

Marius walked up to the vehicle and looked inside, holding back a wince as he saw the drivers. "Are you sure we want to do this?" He asked his new girlfriend, very uncertain about supernatural modes of transportation outside of his own.

“No, we don’t need to pay them,” Daphne muttered as she got into the back of the musty old cab. “That’s why I threw the drachma into the street. That’s payment.” Daphne tried to get herself comfortable in the backseat as she waited for Marius to get in, but it felt like there were springs digging into her back.

“So, where are we going, darlings?” One of the Gray Sisters turned around to speak to the demigods and Daphne almost screamed. She knew what they looked like based on the descriptions in the mythology, but she wasn't expecting them to be such grotesque looking. The one eyeball didn't freak her out as much than their dire need for a moisturizer. “Umm…” Daphne stammered as she looked over at Marius as she started to second guess this mode of transportation. “Manhattan… Lower Manhattan please...”

She gripped onto the seat with one hand as she grabbed Marius’s arm with the other as the taxi took off with no regards for the traffic or speed limit.

Marius let Daphne talk to the drivers, not wanting to really say anything around them. He really did wince when one of them turned around to ask them about their destination. The gray sisters started bickering and talking as soon as they started driving, which made Marius want to teleport right out of the taxi with Daphne to get them out of there. The sister's driving was insane to say the least.

It actually didn't take them too long to get to lower Manhattan, which didn't surprise the son of Hermes in the slightest with the crazy pace they had been travelling at. He got out of the car more than just plain thankful that they had made it through the trip alive. "Let's get away from them." Marius told his girlfriend as he helped her out of the car before turning around to grab the bags. He cursed and nearly jumped out of his skin when one of the sisters grabbed his wrist. "Beware the base. Don't get caught." The cursed thief was about to ask what they meant before they basically pushed him away from the cab and drove off.

Daphne couldn't decide if she wanted to keep her eyes open during that trip or keep them close just in case they met their doom. This was probably not one of her greatest ideas, since she didn't question how long she was going to live when she caught a ride with Apollo. It was something that Daphne preferred Apollo than the Gray Sisters right at that moment.

But they finally made it to lower Manhattan in record time and Daphne wondered how long it would take before she got her land legs again. She took Marius’s help out of the cab and tried to stabilize herself when she notice one of the sisters grabbed Marius and spoke of a base.

“Are you okay?” she asked as she grabbed Marius’s shoulder while the cab drove away. “What did she mean about a base? Are the Usurpers here?” She couldn't help but check over her shoulder and all around her wondering if anyone was watching them. “We should probably get a hotel and formulate an attack plan there.”
