Another day training was the plan for Jay, the whole idea of it was beginning to grow on him as he realised he wasn’t actually that bad. The way his body moved with a spear, his fluid like movements, it just all seemed like some Kung Fu movie back in the golden days of Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee. Besides, if it would one day help him survive then he might as well try to enjoy it. Some days, despite the attempts at it, he just couldn’t enjoy it though. Luckily today Jay was in a cheerful mood and was actually making his own decision to train and not just doing it because it was his cabin’s day.
It was gone normal training times for the camp so it wasn’t surprising to Jay that it was practically empty. What was surprising was the fact there was a lone girl training with her sword. Jay took a glance around to see if there was someone else around who she was potentially sparring with but there was no one. He didn’t actually know this girl but he had seen her around a couple times, she was in the Ares cabin. Not that she fit the part, if he could say so himself. ”So tell me… What exactly did the air do to deserve you stabbing and slashing at it?” Jay mused to the girl with an eyebrow raised, leaning on his spear as he dug the hilt in the ground. The best way for him to start conversations had always been with some silly comment which would serve as an ice-breaker and also decide the tone of the conversation for him. ”I mean… other than keeping you alive.”

”Next time?” Jay mused with a small grin, raising an eyebrow. It was nice that she had already decided that there would be a next time for the pair to converse and exchange ‘fun’ facts or just maybe even weird facts. However Jay wasn’t going to be the one to decline the offer of continuing the interactions between Mel and himself. ”I’ll look forward to it then, maybe I’ll teach you some facts in the future too. I mean, someone’s got to show you the badass that is Bruce Lee.” Jay continued on, patting the table underneath him lightly to show a small bit of excitement, accompanied by his cheeky full-mouthed grin.
Looking over his shoulder Jay figured the painting he had done was probably dry by now and he wondered what he’d do with it. He wasn’t interested in keeping it as he only did it to pass the time and to relax a bit. Maybe Mel wanted it? ”Hey, if you want to keep my painting as a reminder of the day we met, feel free to take it, frame it, scan it. Whatever you wanna do.” He said with a shrug, looking back towards Mel, looking her in her eyes, if she didn’t want it then he was cool with it being thrown away, it wasn’t anything great to say the least.

Jay glanced down at Mel’s tongue and laughed at her disgusted expression. To Jay, all of the Disney princes were creepy. Other than the Kristoff and Hercules, but they weren’t really princes at all. All the others were too cringey and it was just plain weird. ”They all are. I mean who runs around trying to find a person to fit a shoe? That just screams weird…and possessive.” He replied, smiling instead of laughing although he was trying not to laugh.
The conversation had taken a sudden weird turn and Jay couldn’t help but let out a small shocked laugh. ”Jesus, that’s dark.” He replied with his eyes widened, he was surprised that she knew that or that there were even original stories of the Disney fairy tales. To Jay they had all been made up just for the movie, he didn’t know there was an actual back story to them. ”You learn something new everyday…” Jay continued on softly with a small laugh before swinging his foot loosely under the table, behind him.

Jay’s eyebrow rose a tad when the boy was talking about the situation how he was. It confused Jay; he didn’t understand how someone could be so lazy that they wouldn’t even try to survive if it came down to it. ”I guess so.” Jay replied with a shrug, taking a quick look around the room at all the other demigods around and conversing. Although this boy did seem like fun at times, Jay couldn’t help but feel awkward as he was talking about this situation but without wanting to be rude Jay looked back at Logan and took a glance at his arm that he had earlier said hurt and wondered if it was still giving him trouble.
”Isn’t exactly flowers and fluffy bunnies…is it?” Jay cracked with a small grin, putting his hands on his lap since he was finished with his food he didn’t know what else to do with them and they had to be doing something most of the time. ”Not leaving your bed sounds like a good plan to be fair, I’d get in on that…But with my bed bro.” He said, adding on the last bit with a small laugh as he realised how what he said could have been interpreted.

Unlike Mel, Jay didn’t have his own personal weapon to rely on. He just would have to use whatever was available to him at the time but of course he’d often go to something such as a pole or anything that would resemble a spear. ”That’s reassuring…” Jay said quite quietly, letting out a small sigh before maintaining his gaze on the fair haired girl. It didn’t seem too fitting that she had a knife strapped to her side, she didn’t seem like a warrior at all. He could barely imagine what it’d look like if it was a sword and if she was in a full set of armour.
To confirm his thoughts of her being a warrior were her next words. Right on time. ”I’m not either. I’d rather slip away rather than fighting.” He replied as he tapped his finger quietly on the bottom of the table he was currently leaning on. This wasn’t because she was boring him, but simply because he had to always be moving his fingers to keep them distracted. When he was back at school he would always be spinning his pen in between each finger or tapping his leg. ”Why thank you, Snow White.” Jay replied with a smirk, trying to put on his best ‘Prince Charming’ voice to go along with the comedic value of their friendship they had already formed.

Jay eased up a bit once she told him that he wasn’t being rude, the smile reassuring him into even returning his own. ”Okay phew.” He replied with a sigh of relief, he really didn’t want to offend anyone ever. As her eyes travelled down to his lips Jay watched them, he wasn’t sure what she was thinking about especially since her eyebrows had furrowed. Was there something in his teeth? Jay quickly stopped thinking about it once Mel looked back up to his eyes, she didn’t say anything in return about her family so Jay decided she either didn’t hear it, or it was a sensitive topic that he shouldn’t push on about. That’s okay though; Jay knew what it was like to not want to even think about something.
A small laugh had escaped his already curved lips as she spoke about him teaching her ninja moves. ”Well you never know. I’m pretty badass.” He said with a smirk, taking a quick glance over her as she spoke of her knife. He didn’t notice the knife to begin with but now he knew it was there, he wasn’t sure how to take it. All he knew was it’d be best not to offend her. ”I’d say I can fight well enough to survive… Depending on what I’m fighting. However I don’t really like fighting so I try to avoid it. My charm usually gets me out of fights. It’s irresistible.” Jay teased with a grin. His so called ‘charm’ actually got him hit more than he would have been in a fight but he decided not to mention that.

Jay could see a potential good friend in the boy in front of him; it slightly reminded him of his meeting with Mel. They both hit it off by joking around and throwing in some bad puns but those bad puns were what broke the ice. In the case with the boy in front of him, the talk about training and being a ninja had done well in breaking the ice.
An eyebrow rose slightly as the boy admitted what he’d do. Would he really just stay there because he was too lazy to defend himself? Jay found it hard to believe that. ”I have a feeling if it came down to it, you’d react to it. Rather than standing there. Everyone has a fight or flight reflex, there isn’t a third option for ‘staying where you are’.” He explained with a shrug, if Jay was in that situation he’d probably fight as much as he could until a potential escape route had cleared out for him. He wasn’t too keen on fighting so he’d do it as long as it was necessary.

Jay hesitated slightly as he realised he was being rude towards her, people came from different backgrounds and not everyone had T.Vs or had any interest in them. Some enjoyed simpler things in life but Jay enjoyed technology a lot. ”I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to be rude.” He said as he bit the inside of his gum softly, pulling one side of his lip back as he hoped he hadn’t offended her or made her feel awkward. ”That’s pretty cool though, my mum used to say T.V gives you square eyes…” He says with a grin, glancing at her eyes which were really round. Of course he knew it wasn’t true, but it was a reminder of his life before Camp Half Blood.
Martial arts? He may have been Asian but he wasn’t actually a ninja. ”I use a spear and I’m a son of Apollo. Anything I know of martial arts either came from a film or from my father.” He said with a shrug, ”I’m not actually a ninja.” He whispered playfully to her before leaning back again on the table, minding if there was anyone’s paintings behind him.

The small punch on his shoulder brought him back to reality and he focused on the girl in front of him, returning the grin back at you. ”Oh so it’s all well and good when you’re teasing me. But as soon as I announce how proud of my eyebrows are, I’m a slang term for a blue whale penis. Thanks.” Jay teased, rolling his eyes dramatically as if he was actually hurt but in reality, he knew he was just going to get hit or verbally abused more. It’s cool though – he liked it. ”You’d get bored without me admit it; you were all moody ninja before you met me. Now you’re basically a flower.” He continued on to tease, crossing his arms loosely with a smirk on his face.
Jay watched as she flopped herself onto his bed before looking around a bit, he didn’t think his cabin members would come back anytime soon so hopefully he would have more time to spend with his friend, and that’s what she was for now. His friend. The kiss was good but it was obvious she didn’t want to proceed with it so Jay thought it’d be best to allow her to change the topic and continue on what they were originally planning to do. ”Tell anyone I have this and I’ll kill you.” He said as he leant down, moving his bedside drawers slightly to reach behind his bed and pulling out a laptop. ”Camp rules blah blah.” Jay said as he sat back down on his bed, the same way as before but with his laptop on his flat leg. ”Wanna watch Disney’s Hercules? For the irony?”

The comment about glowing in the dark had made Jay laugh a tad, he knew she wasn’t being too serious but now that she had asked it Jay begun to wonder himself. As far as he was aware he didn’t glow in the dark but it was always a possibility he supposed. ”I’m not sure, maybe I have a light switch on the back of my neck or something.” Jay said playfully as he looked behind his self before running his hand up and down his neck. ”I’m sure it’s around here somewhere.” He continued on with a grin, pretending to be confused.
No way did this girl not know who Bruce Lee was. How does someone go through life not knowing that? He’s a huge deal and quite frankly, Jay looked up to him. ”You’re kidding me right?” Jay said with an eyebrow raised, the girl said she was raised on a sanctuary but surely they had televisions. ”You know…Bruce Lee. One of the biggest icons of martial arts in films. Fist Of Fury?...Enter the Dragon?...WAY OF THE DRAGON? You gotta have at least heart of some.” He said, putting emphasis on each one of his films, feeling more shocked that she had never heard of him than disappointed.

The fact that Logan had continued to crack a smile had reassured Jay in their current conversation. He thrived with people that could actually take a joke without getting butthurt or start crying, especially when nothing he ever says was ever to offend someone. Unless they had done something to annoy him to that point but since Logan was still smiling, their possible friendship could continue without any unnecessary arguments because of something he had said.
”That’s the thing…There is.” Jay said in a whisper as he leant forward to the boy, looking around the room as if he was in hiding but being unable to maintain his serious face before having a little laugh before sitting back in his seat normally. ”True but you never know what’s going to happen. You can’t always run from crazy demigods, there may be a time where you’ll have to fight to survive and training may help that I suppose.” Jay replied as he took the last forkful of his ‘food’ and swallowed it down. He understood where the boy was coming from, but there was logic behind training here at camp – even if it was tiring as hell.

Jay watched the girl in front of him as he waited for words to come out her mouth; he wasn’t quite sure why he actually started the conversation with her. He didn’t even know her so it wasn’t even like they were friends going back to have a little catch up with each other after a long absence. However he was happy he did speak to her, she seemed like the type of person he was going to become quite close to. They had already opened up about their fears to each other so Jay felt like if he had a problem he could go to her, and vice versa. ”Well hey, I’m the son of light so maybe I can help with that fear.” He offered with a shrug, if he had managed to help her get over her fear he’d feel good about himself since he would have helped a big issue in her life.
An animal sanctuary? That was definitely different from living above a Chinese restaurant. How stereotypical that the Asian kid actually did have a Chinese restaurant back home. ”That sounds cool, maybe I can come see it one day, animals are pretty dope.” He said with a small smile, he didn’t mean this in the way of a date at all. He just wanted to try and become better friends with the girl and the potential aspect of seeing where she grew up may prove good for bonding and trust. ”Yeah…Maybe not the seven men part. It’s okay though, I’m Bruce Lee.” Referring to himself as Bruce Lee was something he loved, by now he had done it to at least three people. Logan, the kid from the mess hall, probably Tabitha at one point and now Mel.

As the two continued to lock lips Jay kept his eyes closed tight, he couldn’t believe this was even happening. It was like he was in a dream except it was all real. Her lips against his was what he was actually feeling. They had been close to each other and cuddled before but nothing quite matched the rush he felt in this moment in time. The feelings he had always expected he had for Tabitha were slowly becoming more and more real with every second passing he could feel her grabbing his full attention. Except it had always been that way and he knew it had.
Jay kept his head where it was with his forehead leant forward bringing his chin to his neck slightly. His eyes were closed until he had felt that she wasn’t as close to him anymore which was when he opened them and looked at her. He paused for a second before he could think of the words to describe what he had felt in these past few minutes. ”Something like that…” Jay replied with a small smile, watching her face carefully as she began to smirk again. ”Thank you…I grew them myself.” He replied teasingly to her comment about his lips, raising an eyebrow to add to the cheekiness.

The small sigh didn’t go unnoticed and Jay let his body slightly loosen a bit before giving an awkward look around the room before she spoke again. ”The dark? Looks like we’ve both got quite cliché fears… Even though we get hunted by monsters but nah, heights and darkness are worse.” Jay replied with a smirk, he was being sarcastic as usual and decided to put a comedic note onto their situation as a demigod. He’d only encountered the harpies that killed his mother so he wasn’t exactly trained in escaping monsters, let alone killing them and defending himself from them.
Jay gave a few moments to think about what animals he’d liked. He quite liked dogs considering he grew up with one but other than that he supposed pandas were pretty cool. ”Pandas I guess. I had a dog back home when I was growing up. A border collie. But yeah wild animals, I’d say pandas. They’re just big balls of fluff.” He replied with a small laugh, giving her a couple nods as he listened to her saying she was friends with all wildlife. ”Sorry Snow White.” Jay said with a grin, raising an eyebrow playfully.
